Depends if Stay Another Day counts as a Christmas song - its last week at #1 began on 1st Jan 1995. Otherwise it would be the original Band Aid (week beginning 6th Jan 1985).
Yeh Band Aid and Slade were number one until like the 15th Jan or so!

It was Ellie Goulding at the start of 2020, River was #28 in the first chart of the year :magic:

'Afterglow' is now up to #3 on Apple Music, also overtaking Little Mix and Joel Corry. I think some people may have definitely written this off too early. (It's the second highest non ACR song, behind Shane Codd who has always been doing better on Apple than elsewhere iirc (edit: yeah, wow he's actually still as low as #37 on Spotify))
I rather have Wham at #1, Mariah Carey already had 2 weeks.

Spotify updated but again very low streams

Ariana #1 with just 220K, Whoopty #3 with 191K Afterglow with 176K

 

so it's gonna be between Wham, Mariah and Jess for #1 come Friday, with Jess depending on how many streams Alexa made up for Friday

really hope Wham can do it

 

but I think the newies are not doing enough to catch up

Those numbers right now :( only the top 2 doing over 200k, which isn't great in itself

really don't understand why streams are so low

 

last year songs went back to normal on the 26th already and Dance Monkey was doing nearly 500K and the top 10 were all doing 300-ish K

 

compared to 1 year ago songs are doing half

Maybe NYE will give the hits the much needed boost to get streaming figures back to normal, there is usually a big boost on the day.
