Our old friend Vidcapper's just gone mad with me on Facebook chat as his area's gone from Tier 2 straight to Tier 4. What happened to Tier 3 he's saying? I don't know! Ask Boris or Matt. :o

 

Very few are in Tier 2 now with most in 3 or 4. All but a total lockdown really. A lockdown in all but name.

The UK's busiest hospital, The Royal London hospital has just declared a disaster mode according to the BBC as they cannot cope with the numbers of suspected Covid patients being brought in at present by ambulance. They've appealed to the Health Dept. for urgent help.

The UK's busiest hospital is in "disaster medicine mode" and unable to provide "high standard critical care" because it is swamped by Covid-19 patients, it is claimed.

 

Dr Julia Grace Patterson, founder of NHS campaign group Every Doctor UK, claimed on Twitter that the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel had sent an email to notify staff of the dire situation.

 

It comes a day after senior medics at the east London hospital urged bosses to declare a major incident because staff were at a "breaking point" as the number of coronavirus patients tripled in just five days - from 200 on Christmas Eve to 638 on Tuesday.

 

As hospitals across the UK come under increasing strain during the devastating second wave of Covid-19, Dr Patterson tweeted: "From the Royal London Hospital, this email from management: 'We are now in disaster medicine mode.

 

"'We are no longer providing high standard critical care, because we cannot'.

I had hoped yesterday's number of deaths was a blip due to some catch-up figures from Scotland and NI :(

There was a woman who got arrested the other day for walking round the outpatients and a&e sections of the hospital filming those sections claiming that the hospitals were not overwhelmed

Why don’t they count people who have died after 28 days of getting COVID?

There was a woman who got arrested the other day for walking round the outpatients and a&e sections of the hospital filming those sections claiming that the hospitals were not overwhelmed

 

She was arrested for a breach of the peace, walking into a busy hospital with very ill people and harassing them/the staff and also filming them. You shouldn't be allowed to film people who are suffering without the express permission of those being filmed, so I'm pleased that this woman was arrested.

I also agree that she deserved to be arrested. I saw the video on FB and there were comments from people were applauding her and calling the police nazis. She wasn’t even in the covid ward

I just don't understand why they haven't put teachers higher up the priority order for the vaccines.

Scotland and NI didn't release any figures for a few days over Christmas so their first figure after Christmas will have covered several days.

But I mean generally do they just do that to make the figures not look as bad? Many people are bound to have died on day 29/30 after contracting COVID!

That's a general issue about the way the government reports the figures.

I think that's the date by which most deaths directly due to Covid-19 occur, but they have to draw a line somewhere I think. Otherwise potentially someone could test positive, recover, and then die 30 days later of something completely unrelated.. if you see what I mean.

 

A better marker is to look at 'excess deaths' although even that will include additional deaths that were nothing to do directly with Covid-19 but indirectly due to lockdowns etc.

The problem is that the UK (unlike some other countries) doesn’t retest to see when people are free of the virus. Therefore, they have to use an arbitrary time limit.

Not sure where you get that figure- for Boris Johnson it was approximately 11 days from testing positive to being admitted to ICU. I'd say he would have picked it up early as it is likely the PM was being tested regularly for obvious reasons.
