January 2, 20214 yr Making masks compulsory in secondary schools (apart from those medically exempt) is being considered too. Schools should only use assembly halls/sports halls in schools more for teaching, there would be more space for pupils and teachers to try and socially distance. Of course that would require only a certain number of pupils being in a school at the one time which means staggered year groups by days. As for the vaccine yes this government strategy is going to result in less people being confident in the vaccination program. Also, mixing Pfizer for dose 1 and Oxford for dose 2 shouldn't be allowed until is is proven through testing that it is safe enough. As ideal as sports halls would be, you’d be limited to one class in per day and that won’t work for a primary school let alone a huge secondary school. Masks are already compulsory in communal areas but if it became a requirement whilst teaching then I would need to get a visor as I can’t be doing wearing a mask for almost five hours straight. Plus I teach a language, children need to be able to see my mouth. I see no reason schools can’t move online for a few weeks.
January 2, 20214 yr This is where unions should step in and support strikes otherwise I don't actually know what the point of them is. We're almost at 60,000 cases per day, while I think we are entering the peak of infections, sending kids back to school is stupid. I'm all for their education, but it's more harm than good right now for the kids, their families and teachers. What you don't know is how many parents will take their kids out of school regardless.
January 2, 20214 yr I see no reason schools can’t move online for a few weeks. I can see a glaring one. What about people with no childcare? One of my cousins can't go to work on Monday as she has two children, 8 and 10. Will the Government pay her wages? As she says , it's not her fault she can't work. It's bad enough in school holidays and without her salary they can't afford a mortgage. She's not classed as an essential worker so school won't take her kids in. She says she'll just take them anyway and it's up to the school. Her employer says she's to go to work Monday or not get paid. No annual leave left this year. As she says , it's not her fault she can't work. It's bad enough in school holidays and without her salary they can't afford a mortgage. She's not really clased as an essential wotker so school won't take her kids in. She says she'll just take them anyway and it's up to the school. Schools would still be open for vulnerable and key worker children, just like they were last time. What does she actually do? Most people should be working from home in tier 4 areas unless they are key workers. And yes, the government should be putting something in place for her and others like her. It is not up to schools to ensure she can make a living.
January 2, 20214 yr She's in an office but it's not a key job apparently. What kind of office? Surely they should all be working from home in Tier 4?
January 2, 20214 yr The unions have submitted a press release stating that primary schools should also be closed from next week. No idea what the government's response will be but many are threatening to strike if they remain open. They are demanding to know how the science is any different for primary schools compared to secondary. My headteacher has stated that we will be in school, but perhaps only with key workers/vulnerable (watched over by our TAs), while we deliver live online lessons in a different room to everyone else at home ~ and stream these lessons into the classroom for the key worker/vulnerables. Who knows what will happen and there is literally just over 24 hours until the school bell rings so we need to know.... now? :drama:
January 2, 20214 yr What kind of office? Surely they should all be working from home in Tier 4? I don't know. We're not that close. Heard from another cousin.
January 2, 20214 yr I don't know. We're not that close. Heard from another cousin. Oh really, I just thought from the way you passionately argued her case whilst ignoring all the facts around the situation that you were in touch multiple times a day.
January 2, 20214 yr From The Sun. LABOUR MP Jo Stevens has been rushed to hospital suffering with coronavirus. The shadow culture secretary, 54, is being treated by medics after falling ill, aides have announced.
January 3, 20214 yr BREAKING NEWS from Sky. Boris rejects calls for all primary schools to stay closed. Those not listed on Friday in Tier 4, mainly London and South, go back tomorrow. I say it's the right decision at the moment as there's no proof the R is higher because of schools. Could be people in shops, supermarkets, public transport. He says the situation may change though soon. Edited January 3, 20214 yr by common sense
January 3, 20214 yr From BBC News. Parents should send their children to primary school on Monday as long as they are open in their area, the prime minister has said. Boris Johnson said there was "no doubt in my mind that schools are safe". The two-week school closures in London and the South East of England were "exceptional" due to a fast-spreading new variant of Covid-19, he said. He told the BBC's Andrew Marr the risk to children was "very, very low" and the benefit of education was "so huge". Most primary schools in England, except those in London and parts of the South East, are expected to open on Monday. However, unions are telling primary school staff it is unsafe to return to work and are calling for remote learning to be introduced across all primary schools. Some local authorities have also expressed concerns about reopening schools after the Christmas break. Mr Johnson said that while school closures would be kept "under constant review", the government would be "driven by public health considerations and by the massive importance of education".
January 3, 20214 yr They do right. If we're being led to believe all hospitals are packed full and they're not then that wants exposing. Sorry, I'm just catching up here, but the party's of the hospital's being filmed are for outpatients right?. It's the covid wards that are backed up and there's no way any member of the public is gonna get in there for any reason besides having covid and being in desperate need of treatment for it.

I think it's rediculous honestly. He says schools are safe, and children will be fine (but keeps secondary schools closed) but can't the children pass it on from other children who get it from their parents? Like isn't that one way that people will get sick? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep all the schools shut for two/three weeks and move to online learning.

I say it's the right decision at the moment as there's no proof the R is higher because of schools. Could be people in shops, supermarkets, public transport. He says the situation may change though soon. Of course you think it’s correct, it doesn’t affect you in any way and Boris said it. If schools are so safe why are secondary schools not opening tomorrow and why are primary schools in London shut? What is the point in having a tier system across the country that’s inconsistent with itself. Repeatedly parroting that schools are safe isn’t making them safer.
January 3, 20214 yr Repeatedly parroting that schools are safe isn’t making them safer. You're already doing a better job than Boris Johnson. 🙌 Bring Nicola Sturgeon in as the new PM. People up here hate her because she's been so strict. I'm sure England would love to hate her too. I love her so much though!
January 3, 20214 yr If Johnson says primary schools will open tomorrow then expect an announcement that they will be doing online teaching from tomorrow at about 11:00 tonight.
January 3, 20214 yr If Johnson says primary schools will open tomorrow then expect an announcement that they will be doing online teaching from tomorrow at about 11:00 tonight. It truly is the most incompetent government of all time!
January 3, 20214 yr Author If Johnson says primary schools will open tomorrow then expect an announcement that they will be doing online teaching from tomorrow at about 11:00 tonight. :D Followed by Chris saying "Boris is right, he's made the right call". :D
