There's no rhyme or reason

12. Put Yourself In My Place | 8.56 Highest Scores: 11: (___∆__, Dannyboy), 10: (Nina West, Davidson ,Simon, vibe, dandy, Tawdry Hepburn, Qween), Lowest Scores: 5: (Nick F1)

At the #12 spot is the beautiful Put Yourself In My Place, released in November 1994 as the 2nd single from her self-titled 5th studio album Kylie Minogue. The track was written, arranged, and produced by Jimmy Harry, and was recorded in New York City with the parent album's engineer Doug Deangelis. Upon its release the song received positive reviews & performed quite well commercially by peaking at #11 on both the UK & Australian charts, as well as making a minor dent on the German charts. It has been noted that this song is one of Kylie's most personal yet favourite tracks of her career.

Following the mammoth lead single couldn't have been an easy feat, but thankfully she chose this sublime yet sensual down-tempo number. The song opens with an awesome vinyl scratching, then we get some electric guitars, superb keyboarding and synthesizers building towards a beautiful chorus with perfect melodies that flow effortlessly & rich powerful vocals that shows wonderful maturity especially over the final choruses to fade. An epic & outstanding ballad with stunning production - this is truly one of the greatest songs she has ever recorded.

This is my favourite Kylie song so I’m gutted it’s not top 10 because it certainly deserves it.

Kylie’s finest moment - I always thought that if this had been released in any other era it would have been huge but the fact it was released during her commercial decline it never stood a chance, still love it as much now as I did then.

Can't believe how well done 'Magic' has done! :o Surely it must be #11? I love the song but this is too high for it - 'Say Something' on the other hand is very deserving of its place in the Top 20, already one of my all-time Kylie favourites and I have a feeling that, like 'Dancing' has proved, will still be as well-regarded the next time we do a singles rate.

'Dancing' really has captured the interest of fans and casual audiences alike, it's really exceeded what I expected would be possible for Kylie nowadays, but it's proved you should never write Kylie off. I probably wouldn't have placed it this high but I do love the double meaning of the song and the fresh approach to production. It's a really light, cheery song, all the more effective for how effortless it comes across.

Just listening to 'Put Yourself in My Place' now - one of Kylie's best vocal performances for sure; such a rich, mature delivery and combined with the dreamy production is just gorgeous.

Always loved this acoustic performance she did for MTV:

Yeah, Magic landing this high in the rankings is definitely influenced by how new it is. It might suggest more new and/or casual fans are voting, repping broader Kylie opinions than the hardcore fans, which is definitely a good thing in my books.

I find it interesting PYIMP is that rare case of Kylie doing Soul/R&B and connecting unanimously with the fanbase. It's a damn good song, very 90s R&B. I'm sure the video played a big part in its positive reception too.

I actually prefer Magic to Say Something so I’m happy. Do I think it deserves top 10 though ? Maybe not but top 20 or 15 ? Yeah
Watch 'Magic' win this now.

I doubt that, even as I fan I wouldn’t want that 😂

Don't know if I'm awake or dreaming

11. Magic | 8.58 Highest Scores: 10: (Nina West, 365, ___∆__, Slowdown73, Dannyboy), Lowest Scores: 6: (vibe, dandy, HausofHitchcock)

Just outside the top 10 at the #11 spot is Kylie's most recent hit Magic, released in September 2020 as the 2nd single from her 15th studio album Disco. Kylie co-wrote the song with Michelle Buzz and Teemu Brunila alongside its producers Daniel Davidsen and Peter Wallevik, collectively known as PhD. Upon its release the song was given a shorter edit for its release & gained positive critical reviews with many labelling it Kylie's return to club music. On the UK singles chart it reached a peak of #53, making this her 57th top 75 hit, yet fared better on sales chart by peaking at #2. Elsewhere it also managed to score some success by reaching top 10 in Hungary & reached a top 20 peak in Belgium, making this her first entry in 8 years over there.

WOW never expected this to do so well, I was maybe expecting at the lower end of the top 20, not 11th & of note this only missed out on a top 10 position by a mere 2.5 points. Okay this may be a bit prematurely high, especially over some of her more iconic hits, but don't mind & quite happy with this result. This magnificent number sticks to the more traditional disco sound that us fans were expecting when Kylie first announced that she was going in this direction & yes this was another great teaser with its cool & smooth rhythms & slick production. All of which makes this simply outstanding & addictive with Kylie at her very best with so many wonderful references to previous disco classics which gives the whole thing a classy yet uplifting feel. This was the perfect opener for the album & as time goes on will this become another Kylie classic...I think so.

Ahh, I managed to figure out 10 of the last 11 songs but forgot about 'Slow' - quite an improvement from #26! Tbf it would have been much higher if it wasn't for two(?) -1 scores, which I assume it didn't receive this time around.

'Slow' didn't get any -1 scores this time round, which I'm very pleased about as this is more than deserving of a top 10 placement.
