December 18, 20204 yr Author 16 Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending (8.45) s8QYxmpuyxg High: 11 (Nina West, JosephCarey) Low: 4 (Jester) At 16 we have Avril's third-highest track 'My Happy Ending'. The song served as Avril's second single from her second album, 2004's Under My Skin. It finished above all her other singles from that era (well the ones that were included, poor 'He Wasn't' :kink:). The song has proven very popular with voters - only 4 of the 22 voters gave it a score below 8! The song gave Avril her second consecutive #5 single in the UK and her fifth top 10 hit overall. The single also gave Avril her first and only top 10 hit from the Under My Skin album in the US - peaking at #9. It is her fourth-highest charting single in the States! 15 Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous (8.48) 0J3vgcE5i2o High: 11 (Tafty, x leww x) Low: 3 (Scene) At 15 we have the second Nelly song to appear - the Timbaland-featured 'Promiscuous'. The track served as the lead single to Nelly's third album Loose in the US but was relegated to second single in the UK. In the States it gave Nelly her first #1 hit in the US (it was also her first Hot 100 entry in 5 years!) and in the UK it managed a peak of #3 - becoming Nelly's second-highest charting hit at the time. While I don't hate it, I have never really gotten into the song. I'm not a fan of the spoken verses and the back-and-forth between the pair. It is firmly the weakest of the Loose singles for me - and perhaps of all her singles here! A lot of you love it though with it bagging two 11s and six 10s. :D
December 20, 20204 yr Forgot to vote in this. Jamelia should have been alot higher with some of her songs. My Happy Ending would have been in my Top 5! I think Nelly will have the winning song
December 21, 20204 yr Author 14 Nelly Furtado - Turn Off The Light (8.52) kOL7aeIDruA High: 11 (Dandy) Low: 6 (Scene, Doug) At 14 and surprisingly finishing higher than her global hit 'Promiscuous' is Nelly Furtado's 2001 hit 'Turn Off The Light'. Serving as the second single from Nelly's debut album Whoa, Nelly!, the song managed to outperform its preceding single in the UK and US chart, peaking at #4 and #5 respectively, and in turn becoming Nelly's highest-charting hit in these territories right up until her Loose era. I can't say I'm a massive fan of the song but then again I've only heard it a handful of times... maybe it's a grower. This is Nelly's third song to fall out. 13 Natasha Bedingfield - These Words (8.61) iWako3_ENlk High: 11 (JosephCarey, Chemistry) Low: 1 (Scene) At 13 is another second single from an artist's debut album - this time from Natasha. 'These Words' received a long string of high scores which puts me firmly in the minority of actively disliking the song. Following up her debut 'Single', 'These Words' went on to give Natasha her first and, to date, only UK #1 single. This finishes the rate as Natasha's second most popular single which means Miss Bedingfield has only one track left in the running... 'Unwritten' proves to be Natasha's top song here but is it popular enough to win, or could she be the first pop girl out of the race? :kink:
December 21, 20204 yr Turn Off The Light  Always been a fave of mine, I just found it so catchy and I love the intro to it. Her singles from her first two albums were great, I did like the ones from Loose too but her earlier style will always be my favourite.
December 21, 20204 yr My Happy Ending is great, probably my favourite Avril song! Deserved better than Promiscuous at least -_- (the one blot on her otherwise pretty excellent discography)
December 21, 20204 yr Author 12 Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone (8.77) 0G3_kG5FFfQ High: 11 (Josh, Doug) Low: 5 (Bjork) At 12 is the first of two Avril songs to fall just shy of the top 10. 'When Your Gone' served as the second single to Avril's third album The Best Damn Thing in the summer of 2007. It became Avril's joint-second highest-peaking single in the UK - reaching #3. In the US, it didn't fare as well - only peaking at #24 despite being the follow-up to 'Girlfriend' which gave Avril her first ever number one single in the States. It is a gorgeous piano-driven ballad packed with a lot of emotion and Avril shines in a rare vulnerable light here. The delicate piano intro to the soaring chorus... what's not to love BJORK?! :kink: 11 Avril Lavigne - Complicated (8.82) 5NPBIwQyPWE High: 11 (Doug) Low: 6 (Nick F1) At 11 is the second consecutive Avril song to fall out which means she has only one song left in the running... 'I'm With You' is rated Avril's best song!... 'Complicated' at least gets the runner-up position which is far from a bad result. It of course kickstarted Avril's music career on a global level, serving as the lead single from her 2002 debut album Let Go. Like 'When You're Gone', 'Complicated' peaked at #3 in the UK and this time fared better in the US - peaking at #2. I remember first coming across this song - and Avril - when watching an episode of Top Of The Pops one Friday(?) night. I instantly fell in love with the song and played the single to death round my friend's house after school. My love for it has worn away over the years though and I much prefer most of her singles from her first three albums to it these days. Tomorrow I will kick off the top 10 and all five ladies have at least one song still in the running. :cheer: Here is how many songs each pop girl has left: Nelly - 5 Gwen - 2 Avril - 1 Natasha - 1 Jamelia - 1 Who will be first girl out and who will reign supreme? :o
December 21, 20204 yr Author The top 10 in alphabetical order: Avril Lavigne - I'm With You Gwen Stefani - Cool Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For? Jamelia - Superstar Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End) Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird Nelly Furtado - Maneater Nelly Furtado - Say It Right Nelly Furtado - Try
December 21, 20204 yr That's a pretty decent top 10, no major objections there from me! Any of Nelly or Gwen's songs would be great winners.
December 21, 20204 yr Author I'm right there with you Jester - 'Cool' is my favourite song of the whole rate. Btw, Addy has launched the Male Artist rate also. :cheer: If all goes well there may be a groups edition. :kink:
December 22, 20204 yr from that top 10 I love the 5 Nelly songs + Avril's I'm with You aka Avril's best song ever surprised at the 2 Gwen songs, I much prefer Hollaback Girl and The sweet Escape if I had to pick 2 Gwen songs Jamelia and Natasha were just ok as popstars, they really don't have the same quality in discography as the other 3
December 22, 20204 yr Author 10 Nelly Furtado - Try (8.95) 3--1Kw2UHDQ High: 11 (Bjork, The Architect) Low: 5 (Dobbo) Kicking off the top 10 is the first of five Nelly songs in the top 10 and the fourth of her tracks overall to appear. 'Try' served as the second single to Nelly's second album Folklore in March 2003 and gave Nelly her second consecutive top 20 from the album in the UK, peaking at #15. The song received six 10s, two 9.5s and six 9s in this rate and only three scores below 8!
December 22, 20204 yr Author 09 Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird (8.98) roPQ_M3yJTA High: 10 (Bjork, x leww x, Nick F1, dandy, Liam, Feliz Wombat, Chemistry, Jester) Low: 7 (T Boy) At 9 we have yet another Nelly single in the shape of 'I'm Like A Bird' which means Miss Furtado has only three songs left in the running. 'Bird' was Nelly's introduction to the world - released as the lead single to her debut album in 2001. The song was a global smash hit; peaking at #5 in the UK, #9 in the US and #2 in Australia. It received acclaim from critics and won Nelly a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - she is to date the last Canadian artist to win in that category. :o Surprisingly it has made it this high despite not a single score of 11 from anyone, but then T Boy's score of 7 was its lowest score so maybe it's not all that shocking. It isn't the highest song to not receive an 11 though - that one is still to come. :P
December 23, 20204 yr Author 08 Nelly Furtado - All Good Things [Come To An End] (9.00) 4pBo-GL9SRg High: 11 (Feliz Wombat) Low: 6 (Dobbo) At 8 is the third consecutive Nelly song to fall out and sixth overall which means she is now joint-lead with Gwen in regards to how many songs they have left: two. :P Back to Nelly's third most popular single here... 'All Good Things' was released as the third single from Nelly's third album Loose and gave Nelly her third straight top 5 hit from the album in the UK. The song was a massive hit throughout Europe - reaching Number 1 in many countries including Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. In the US, however, it limped into the lower region of the Hot 100 - peaking at #86. The song is very introspective and has a melancholic feel to it. Definitely one of the highlights of the album and deserves to still be played on radio (I never hear it). I'll always remember Hannah Wildes' performance of the track during the blind auditions of The Voice UK and that whistle* note near the end making the chairs spin around. *It may or may not have been a whistle not but it was high. :kink:
December 23, 20204 yr 'Promiscuous' does NOT deserve to be Nelly's 2nd worst performing single... TF!? It should be top 10. :( 'Cool' to win, for me too!
December 24, 20204 yr Author 07 Jamelia - Superstar (9.05) 5k6Y4-OLlXw High: 11 (Chemistry, Jester) Low: 4.5 (Scene) Now it's time for the final single from Jamelia to appear - meaning 'Superstar' is crowned Jamelia's most popular hit according to Buzzjack voters! Was it really going to be anything else? 'Superstar' is of course Jamelia's signature song and her biggest and most-remembered hit. Released back in September 2003 as the lead single to Jamelia's second album Thank You, 'Superstar' properly broke Jamelia through into the mainstream and gave her a #3 hit in the UK. The song is actually a cover of Danish artist Christine Milton's 2002 original which was inspired by none other than Liberty X's 'Just A Little'. :o Everyone except T Boy and myself gave the song an 8 or higher which cemented its position in the top 10! Poor Jamelia though for being first girl out... the second pop girl out will be revealed next...
December 24, 20204 yr Author 06 Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten (9.09) cFFBSSntZgs High: 10 (...ready for it, Nina West, Nick F1, JosephCarey, Addy, Doug, Liam, T Boy, Chemistry, Jester) Low: 7 (x leww x) The second pop girl eliminated is Natasha! The Brits couldn't compete with their North American counterparts. :P 'Unwritten' is crowned Natasha's most popular song with Buzzjack voters which I'm not too surprised about. The song is the title track of Natasha's debut album and served as its third single. Upon release in September 2004, the song peaked at #6 in the UK which in turn gave Tash her third consecutive top 10 hit. It was serviced to US radio a year later as the album's second North American single and gave N.B. her first ever US top 10 hit - peaking at #5. It also became the theme song to The Hills which I'm sure helped its popularity. The song completely embodies the themes of self-empowerment, freedom and positivity. It's very uplifting and Natasha sings with such conviction. It is the highest song in this rate to not receive a single 11 - but it managed ten 10s and nothing lower than a 7! A universally appreciated hit. Next up is the top 5! :cheer: We have 2 singles each from Gwen and Nelly, and Avril's most popular track still to come...
