I wonder who will win in terms of YE sales: Kylie or Little Mix. There was an exciting battle between them on 1st week but now I think LM takes the lead

I get mariah going to number 1 is what fans want but is she even breaking any records, and is it really as big a deal as people are making it out to be

I mean it's going to #1 for the first time 26 years after it came out, that's a pretty huge deal whether it breaks a record or not!

How many songs chart annually, reach #2 multiple times, become a Christmas classic and challenge for the top spot 26 years after release? I guess it’s a combination of those things and the fact it’s genuinely liked that make it a big deal.

Well it’s the same for most Christmas hits... The Ronettes, Michael Bubblé or even Mariah aren’t really troubling to top40 on a regular basis with their singles nowadays.

The difference for me though is that I feel like Kylie actually makes good enough music to make Top 40 with new releases

Dance Monkey needs to make a comeback. It’s been way too long. Please...?

Vile? I said, in jest as a matter of fact, that I found it hilarious for an Ellie Goulding fan to be talking about underperformance all things considered. This is in contrast to calling someone a ‘dirty straitee’ and offering up conjectures like ‘Shawn would sell more if he came out as gay’.

Understand the nuances please. LOL.

At least we know that you really do live up to your name!

Happy Hanukkah!

Would Mariah be the oldest woman since Cher to have a #1?

Edited by chartjack2

I know Cher was 52 - but does anyone *actually* know how old Mariah is? I thought no one knew her real birthday or something like that.
Can't think of any other chart topping women in their 50s - so I guess so! But does it really count considering it's a 26-year-old song and not new material like Believe was?

Unfort the charts aren’t based on your views of the quality of a song!

I guarantee it’ll make the evening news on Friday if she does make it

Mariah is 50 and Cher was 52 when "Believe" hit #1 in 1998

Not a solo artist, but Debbie Harry from Blondie was also 53 when 'Maria' hit #1 in Jan 1999
Looking to be a truly incredible result for Mariah! Also a rare occurrence for a proper Christmas song to reach #1!

Not sure what the record is for a male but Leo Sayer was 57 when Meck feat. Leo Sayer went to #1 in 2006. I'm sure there's older males who have done it though.

Suppose Captain Tom was 100!

Yeah, it would be interesting to know who holds the record for a non-charity single though.

any news on Disco and Santa Baby?
