This week "Messy" is one of those very rare tracks that is number 1 in both sales and streaming but, due to ACR, not number 1 overall.

I think this happened to Despacito in 2017, can anyone think of any other instances?

  • And this why ACR needs scrapping.

Correct - “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was in that position for a while and “Running Up That Hill” for 1 week but both then did reach #1. “APT.” has come close to being the old rules #1 but not q

Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter number 1 tonight on SCR sales of 45,756. Ordinary by Alex Warren dropped from 1 to 9 on ACR sales of 28,702 but would still be number 1 if on SCR with sales of 56,289.

w/e 11 July 2019 - 'Old Town Road' was #1 on Sales, Audio Streaming, Video Streaming and combined Streaming, but #7 officially, and even if it hadn't been on ACR it would have been #2 behind 'I Don't Care', evidently because the latter must have had a stronger ratio of premium (paid) streams.

There have probably been other occasions, but none immediately spring to mind.

w/e 16 January 2020 Dance Monkey. Own It official number 1.

w/e 2 April 2020 Blinding Lights. Roses official number 1.
These were number one on combined streaming and sales, but number 2 officially.

I really don't think ACR should affect the No.1 spot. If a song is No.1 for 10+ weeks let it have all its weeks at No.1 THEN put it on ACR.

I like the idea of the #1 spot immunity from ACR. I get how it’s created to push fresher songs up but denying literally the most popular song #1 no matter how many weeks it’s been there seems a bit forced.

But it could also be my OCD speaking looking at those ugly ass 1-1-1-1-1-1-8-out-12-7-14 chart runs. (Also judging the 3-song rule a bit oops)

Am I correct in understanding that there's not been a song that would be #1, but misses out due to being on ACR and never actually gets there officially? I've felt for a while that the nature of chart runs nowadays runs a bit afoul of ACR's rigid system and it's totally possible, so I'm surprised if it still hasn't.

Correct - “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was in that position for a while and “Running Up That Hill” for 1 week but both then did reach #1. “APT.” has come close to being the old rules #1 but not quite made it.

Messy drops to number 11 tonight.

Its ACR sales are 22,188 - however it would still be number 1 if on SCR with pre-adjusted sales of 42,705 compared to Pink Pony Club at number 1 with sales of 39,032.

“APT.” confirmed as having a record 10th week at #2 on old rules. “Pink Pony Club” still hasn’t climbed higher than #3.

Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter number 1 tonight on SCR sales of 45,756.

Ordinary by Alex Warren dropped from 1 to 9 on ACR sales of 28,702 but would still be number 1 if on SCR with sales of 56,289.

So the top 10 total SCR weeks at #1 is now:

18 I Believe

16 (Everything I Do) I Do It for You

15 Love Is All Around

15 One Dance

15 Dance Monkey

15 Last Christmas

14 Bohemian Rhapsody

14 Shape of You

14 Despacito

14 Ordinary

'Last Christmas' is actually on 16 weeks! (It added an extra non-official week last year when 'That's So True' was on its 5th week at #1 officially.)

  • 2 weeks later...

Dior by MK featuring Chrystal number 1 tonight on SCR sales of 39,701

Ordinary by Alex Warren number 8 on ACR sales of 26,594 but would still be number 1 if on SCR with sales of 52,191

if it weren't for ACR and opportunistic fanbase physical sales 'Ordinary' would have beat the Bryan Adams record this very week.

Update:

18 I Believe

16 (Everything I Do) I Do It for You

16 Last Christmas

15 Love Is All Around

15 One Dance

15 Dance Monkey

15 Ordinary

14 Bohemian Rhapsody

14 Shape of You

14 Despacito

I believe Ordinary will reach 19 for sure given the album is this Friday unless one of Bieber’s songs takes off

Yes that would have been exciting having Ordinary finally break I Believe's 72 year old record only for Last Christmas to then potentially break the new record within a matter of months! #downwithACR

Makes it feel more inevitable that something will eventually come along and go the distance, since the required longevity has effectively just been pulled off, just needs a little more luck next time.
