but you need a new album to be nominated for best male/female?

maybe I'm mixing things but didn't Ellie Goulding win (or at least was nominated) best female in a year in which she hadn't had a new album?

Also no clue who are they gonna nominate for best band and album (besides Dua)

cannot see many obvious choices, was thinking Idles or Glass Animals but maybe they're not mainstream enough/too alt_rock?

most critically acclaimed albums of the year are by US artists this year

Laura Marling maybe in albums but she's so low key these days...

Glass Animals were nominated for a Mercury before, so sure they count as UK

Edited by Bjork

When are they announcing the nominations?

They normally announce them around mid-Jan if I’m remembering correctly. But that was when the show was in Feb. I’m assuming they won’t announce them till much later now it’s in May.

Laura Marling is a favourite of the BRITs, she's been nominated nearly every time she puts an album out hasn't she?

I was surprised to learn Glass Animals were from the UK, their frontman being American might explain that

I predict

British female- dua lipa

British male - ? Michael kiwinuka

British group- ???? Could they finally give it to little mix?? (Unlikely but would be nice) but possibly the 1975, blossoms?

International male - the weeknd

International female- Taylor swift/ lady gaga? Or miley even. Tough one!

International group- maybe the killers/ haim / other??

British single- ? Head and heart

British album- future nostalgia

Yes they all have to have released an album in the calendar year

Would be great if Kylie gets a nomination - maybe they’ll give her the legends award?

Hope the brits go ahead! Love them!!

unfortunately older artists dont stand a chance in award shows no matter how good their music is, i’m sure its either Ariana or Taylor or Billie who will win Best International Female...

I reckon the nominations would be...

Female: Beabadoobee, Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware, Laura Marling, Paloma Faith (Backup: Charli XCX)

Male: Declan McKenna, Headie One, Gerry Cinnamon, J Hus, Yungblud (Backup: Jack Garatt or Nines) - No clue for this one.

Group: The 1975, Blossoms, Bring Me The Horizon, Idles, Little Mix (Backup: Doves)

Int Female: Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift (Backup: Kylie Minogue)

Int Male: Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Burna Boy, Juice Wrld, The Weeknd (Backup: Pop Smoke)

Album: The 1975 - Notes On A Conditional Form, Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia, Gerry Cinnamon - The Bonny, Idles - Ultra Mono, J Hus - Big Conspiracy (Backup: Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter)

I don't think they did international group last year but if they did I reckon it would be: Fontaines D.C., Haim, The Killers, Run The Jewels, Tama Impala (or BTS if they were trying to be down with the kids)

She was nominated in 2017, but Delirium was November 2015 - November releases usually go either way with years they're entered for

I believe that if you’ve released a top 40 single or album in the nomination period you are eligible.

Rina won't be eligible for anything I guess then :(

Rina has kept being brought up in predictions for various awards shows but frankly I'm not sure why people keep expecting her to be nominated, she's still a very niche artist who hasn't really made a commercial breakthrough (the most mainstream she's gone so far at least in the UK is one single getting some minor support from Radio 1) and at the end of the day most awards shows give their nominations to artists who are at least moderately commercially successful.

(the one exception where I understand the outrage is the Mercury snub after it came out that she wasn't even considered for it due to not being born in the UK, as I can imagine she would have had a good chance of being nominated otherwise)

Dua and Harry have the brits sewn up.

Kylie deserves the contribution award.

I keep seeing people mentioning Kiwanuka but his album is from 2019 and already got nominated this year

I don’t get why they’d do that. Surely it makes more sense for the eligibility period to be just the calendar year.

Are they moving the Brits permanently then? Or will the Brits 2022 just cover a smaller space of time?

I’m not sure there was any point moving it anyway. In May its still doubtful they’ll be able to hold it without any restrictions so they could have come up with a way to hold it this month.

They could fill the O2 with over 80s if they’re fully vaccinated by May I guess 😂
