Bruises is my favourite Lewis song; his vocals just always feel a bit forced to me though.

I did really like WAP, although it wasn’t something I felt I wanted to keep listening to for that long. I think the public might have felt the same overall as it did fall down the charts quite quickly for a #1.

Life is Good is not great, though the chorus itself is kinda catchy.

'WAP' one of the defining hits of the year for sure - anywhere outside the top 10 or even 5 feels wrong for it!

'Life Is Good' would be so much better if it was solo Drake oop

Biography

When it comes to Gen Z hip-hop, 24kGoldn is a genre-bending standout. Born Golden Landis Von Jones in 2000 and raised in San Francisco, the artist is at his best when he crisscrosses his way through the cemented expectations of an MC. While 24kGoldn started his entertainment career as a child actor, appearing in commercials, he explored his musical interests by singing in a choir. By age 14, 24kGoldn had pivoted to hip-hop, fully developing his lilting sing-rapping style and blending pop, rock, and R&B into his delivery. In 2018, 24kGoldn shared his breakthrough single, “Ballin’ like Shareef,” a vibrant tribute to the son of retired NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. The following year, 24kGoldn released the EP DROPPED OUTTA COLLEGE, led by “VALENTINO,” a passionate ode to designer clothing that doubles as a commentary on his life as a bachelor. “Mood,” a summery trap vibe that features emo rap specialist iann dior, served as the 2020 lead single of 24kGoldn’s debut album, El Dorado. “When I was a little kid, my mom’s coworkers would always call me ‘El Dorado’ because in Spanish, that means ‘the Golden One,’” he told Apple Music. “So it’s an homage to my past.” - Apple Music

I enjoy 'Life Is Good' even with the less than smooth transition between Drake and Future's bits.

Still not very keen on 'Mood'.

Biography

Isaiah Faber—a.k.a. Powfu—wasn’t just raised on pop-punk, he was raised in pop-punk. Born in Vancouver in 1999, Isaiah is the son of Dave Faber, the frontman for Faber Drive, a Canadian alt-rock outfit that has toured alongside Warped Tour royalty like Simple Plan and MxPx. That pop-punk influence filtered down to the music he makes as Powfu, internalizing the genre’s melodic cadences, high-school-heartbreak themes, and self-deprecating lyrics. But Powfu is also very much a product of the SoundCloud-rap generation, offsetting his blink-182-inspired hooks with a sad-eyed conversational flow and atmospheric lo-fi bedroom beats, while giving voice to every misfit who’s pined for girls who “date the ones that I hate” (as he brat-raps on the 2018 single “Douchebags”). As he entered his 20s, Powfu’s concerns went beyond airing out petty grievances to pondering more existential crises. On his 2020 single “Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head),” he bids adieu to the one who got away as he prepares for his own imminent demise, all while an eerie earworm chorus (sampled from alt-pop phenom beabadoobee) offers a ghostly reminder of the good times that can never be relived. But while the song sounds like a genuine cry for help, Powfu insists he’s just engaging in creative role play, telling Apple Music, “Every song I write, I just try to write new, different stories.” And in this case, it had the happiest of endings: “Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head)” became 2020’s unofficial soundtrack to COVID-induced isolation, hitting the Top 10 in no fewer than 17 countries, while Powfu’s major-label debut EP, poems of the past, includes a new version of the track with a guest verse from his childhood hero, blink’s Mark Hoppus. - Apple Music

Really don't understand the appeal of this song, even with lockdown #1 in mind. Just dreary. Was pleasantly surprised that Beabadoobee's solo stuff is nothing like this, which I quite like. Hopefully she can get some solo success in 2021.

Biography

There’s purpose in Dua Lipa’s euphoric pop. “For me, it’s about championing women and putting ourselves in the position of power,” the singer told Apple Music in 2020, ahead of the release of her second album, Future Nostalgia. “I have been inspired by the female alphas that have shown me that we can do it. And that we can wear the pants, you know? We need more of that in music.” Forcing the world to get a little more comfortable with female alphas has been a mission statement for Lipa (born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents in 1995) since her 2017 self-titled debut. It housed the triumphant breakup smash “New Rules”, the self-love anthem “IDGAF” and the assured “Hotter Than Hell”—songs which made it clear that this was no ingénue, but rather an outspoken, effortlessly cool face of pop’s future. Indeed, that status was cemented a year later when Lipa made history as the first female solo artist to receive five BRIT Award nominations. She won two and, in 2019, added two Grammys to her mantelpiece.

Despite the success of her debut, Lipa wasn’t interested in recreating its hits. “People always say, ‘The second album is really scary,’ but for me, it’s more scary to go back into the studio and try to create something like ‘New Rules’ or ‘IDGAF’ over and over again,” she said. “I feel like I’d end up in a vicious cycle of trying to get somewhere but never being able to mature as an artist.” And so, to move forward, she pivoted to the past, drawing on disco and funk—and filtering it through her ahead-of-its-time pop—to arrive at Future Nostalgia. Decadent and every bit as empowering as those early hits, it brought Lipa her first Mercury Prize nod, multiple Grammy nominations and a rightful place in pop’s upper echelons. And with it, too, came Lipa’s new purpose. Released just as the world went into lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis, Future Nostalgia became an urgent tonic for tough times—danced to in living rooms across the world. Yet Lipa wasn’t done there: Five months later, she unveiled Club Future Nostalgia, a thrilling remixed version on which the singer teamed up with club queen The Blessed Madonna, and guests including Madonna, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson, to bring lockdown-fatigued listeners another dose of escapism. “I didn’t think I’d be putting albums out during a global pandemic,” added Lipa. “But it’s just about creating experiences for everyone at home. That’s the most important thing for me now.”

All of this, of course, is only just the beginning. “I really feel like I’m finding my feet,” said Lipa. “I feel so proud of Future Nostalgia as a whole and the most confident and the most myself making it. But I’m already planning the next move.” - Apple Music
