Biography

Tion Wayne first started to make a name for himself in 2010 after dropping a handful of videos for various online streaming channels. The Edmonton, North London-based MC quickly started to rise through the ranks of a predominantly D.I.Y. underground scene, and by 2014 delivered his first proper mixtape, Wayne's World. Continuing to push his sound on social media and online video streaming, Wayne had built a loyal following by 2016 and had supported artists such as U.S. rapper Rick Ross and Ghanaian hip-hop artist Sarkodie. His follow-up mixtape, Wayne's World, Vol. 2, was also released that year and saw him joined by the likes of One Acen, Scorcher, and frequent collaborator Afro B. Wayne released the Transition EP in 2017 while also playing a host of live dates across the U.K., including a sold-out show at London's Electric Ballroom. - Apple Music

Biography

There’s a lovely moment a little ways into Apple Music’s Songwriter documentary about Ed Sheeran in which Sheeran, jet-lagged and carrying a cup of tea, straggles out into a yard in Malibu at dawn, sits down at his laptop and begins writing a song about the moment right in front of him: the crisp air, the birdsong, the hot tea, the day ahead. He gets a full verse in, melody and all, then pauses. “Songs are weird things,” he says. “How so?” an interviewer asks. “They just come and go,” Sheeran says, smiling. “And they never give you any warning.” For Sheeran, they seem to come pretty reliably. Born in 1991 in Halifax, England, he started out gigging on the UK pub circuit before releasing his first studio album, +, in 2011, and has since become one of the most unstoppable singer-songwriters in music, forging a light blend of folk, pop, hip-hop and dance that feels slick but lived-in, intimate but universal. Whether on his own (“Sing”, “The A Team”, “Shape of You”, “Perfect”) or in collaboration with artists from Taylor Swift to Eminem to Justin Bieber, Sheeran has a unique ability to strike a chord that feels both bittersweet and redemptive, good-natured and genuine: the hopeless romantic who convinces you he might just be right. In 2017, he was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, touching Prince Charles on the arm while shaking his hand—a breach of royal protocol, and an appealingly human one at that. - Apple Music

Biography

From vocal-led deep house to pulsing, bass-heavy floor fillers, Britain's Endor made a name for himself on the U.K. underground with his club-friendly cuts before the release of his 2019 U.K. Top Ten single, "Pump It Up."

Brighton-born Daniel Hardingham first started to make waves in the U.K. underground house scene in 2015, with the release of his debut single "Be with Me." Over the next couple of years, he issued a slew of bass-heavy, deep house tracks, released on Nightbeast and Strangelove, while also delivering remixes for FooR, Crush Club, and Pixie Lott, to name but a few. 2019 saw Endor flexing his productions skills, delivering the Daft Punk-esque "Phonesex," the funk-laden "Mess Up" -- with Hifi Sean and Kolombo -- as well as the ghetto-tech sounding "Blastin," but it would be his debut for Defected that really made waves. The Black & White Brothers sampling "Pump It Up" was picked up by DJs from Ibiza to Miami, before heading into the U.K. Top Ten, while remixes by the likes of Jax Jones and Low Steppa of "Pump It Up" followed. - Apple Music

Biography

Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes once said the best advice he ever got about how to handle pre-show jitters came from his then-tourmate Taylor Swift. “Just remember,” Swift said. “Everyone’s here to have fun.” Fun? Yeah, sure. But they were also there to see Mendes perform, share his feelings, bare his soul. “When you’re writing something super-honest and about people you care about and things you’ve been through, the last thing you want to do is re-live upsetting experiences,” Mendes told Apple’s Music around the release of his 2018 self-titled album. “But that’s the music that travels and connects with people.” And therein lies the rub. Soulful but soft, wholesome without sounding like he’s hiding something, Mendes is the rare artist who has managed to find audiences in both the teen-pop and adult-contemporary set, blending singer-songwriter conventions with the lighter sides of R&B and dance music, bucking trends in part by ignoring them to begin with.

Born in the Toronto suburbs in August 1998 (a Leo—confident and optimistic), Mendes started out by uploading six-second covers of pop songs onto the video-sharing service Vine. Like Justin Bieber on YouTube before him, he navigated the leap from covers to original material, from making content to forging a career, modelling himself on the sound of artists, like John Mayer and Ed Sheeran—superstars whose charm lies, in part, in how un-super they seem. Within a couple of years, he released his first album, Handwritten. Success was huge and immediate. Illuminate arrived in 2016, followed by Shawn Mendes in 2018, marking transitions toward adult themes—anxiety, sexuality—without shedding the brightness or earnestness that made him appealing to begin with. “The hardest thing in the world is to wake up in the morning and be, like, ‘Today I’m me, regardless of how big of a song “Stitches” was,’” Mendes told Apple Music, referring to his 2015 breakthrough single. “The best way to do it is to ignore that and take your step forward in what you think sounds amazing. And that’s kind of all you can do.” - Apple Music

Camila Cabello

Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (/kəˈmiːlə kəˈbeɪoʊ/; Spanish: [kaˈmila kaˈβeʎo]; born March 3, 1997) is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter. She rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, formed on The X Factor USA in 2012, signing a joint record deal with Syco Music and Epic Records. While in Fifth Harmony, Cabello began to establish herself as a solo artist with the release of the collaborations "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Shawn Mendes, and "Bad Things" with Machine Gun Kelly, the latter reaching number four on the US Billboard Hot 100. After leaving the group in late 2016, Cabello released several other collaborations, including "Hey Ma" by Pitbull and J Balvin for The Fate of the Furious soundtrack, and her debut solo single "Crying in the Club".

Cabello's debut studio album, Camila (2018), reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The Latin music-influenced pop album was critically well-received, and received a Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Its lead single "Havana" topped the charts in several countries including the US and UK, and follow-up single "Never Be the Same" reached the top ten in multiple countries. Cabello's 2019 duet with Mendes, "Señorita", became her second single to top the Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio album, Romance (2019), peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and number one in Canada. Cabello is set to star in an upcoming film adaptation of Cinderella (2021), for Sony Pictures.

Cabello has amassed billions of streams on music platforms. She has the best-selling digital single of 2018 according to International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Cabello has won many awards throughout her career, including two Latin Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, and one Billboard Music Award. She has also received three Grammy Award nominations. - Wikipedia

Biography

The morning after a rough performance at a 2016 New Year’s Eve show, Mariah Carey took to social media to offer her recap: “S**t happens.” What else could she say? What else did she need to say? Thirty-plus years in the business, more No. 1 singles than any solo artist in history (and second overall only to The Beatles), more writing and production credits on those singles than any other female composer—Carey is one of the few artists who might legitimately be beyond apology, a diva incarnate whose songs bridge the confessional intimacy of singer-songwriters with the mass appeal of pop. Yeah, she had some knocks along the way. Everyone does. But few take them in stride, let alone with such style.

Born in Long Island in 1969 or 1970 (she once quipped that she doesn’t acknowledge time), Carey grew up on the classics: Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight. She moved to New York City after high school, cobbling together jobs while working on demos with then-collaborator Ben Margulies at the back of Margulies’ father’s cabinet factory. Her biggest tracks—from the early, dance- and gospel-influenced “Someday” and “Dreamlover” to the club leanings of “Fantasy” and “Honey” and ballads such as “Forever” and “Always Be My Baby”—stand like mile markers in the culture, capturing a feeling of sweetness and euphoria that straddles pop, hip-hop, and R&B without slotting neatly into any of them. Meanwhile, her melismatic style—a technique that entails singing a single syllable with a long run of notes—redefined our sense of what pop vocals sound like. Mimi, The Elusive Chanteuse, The Imperfect Angel...or maybe just Mariah. - Apple Music

Biography

West London grime MC Che Wolton Grant (aka AJ Tracey) rose through the ranks of pirate radio, becoming one of the leading figures in U.K. grime's second generation of artists. Grant knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, due in part to his parents; not only was his dad a former rapper from Trinidad & Tobago, his mother was a former drum'n'bass DJ from Wales. By age six, Grant had started writing rhymes, coinciding with the first great boom in grime. Although the genre temporarily lost its way, Grant soldiered on, unwilling to give up on his passion for grime. By the time he had reached his early twenties, grime had started another upswing. During this time Grant became proactive in his pursuit of radio spots, working his way up through pirate radio before scoring appearances on Rinse.DM, NTS, and eventually even BBC Radio One.

With his reputation in the world of radio firmly cemented, Grant released a string of EPs, beginning with The Front EP in July 2015, followed by the Alex Moran EP later the same year. In 2016, he further solidified his status as an emerging talent, with a combination of solid collaborations, more radio appearances, and the release of the Lil Tracey EP. The end of 2016 culminated with Grant's nomination yo BBC's Sound of 2017. That year saw him release a handful of EPs and singles including Secure the Bag and "False 9," as well as dabbling in production on "LA4AWeek." The following year Tracey delivered his first U.K. Top 20 single, "Butterflies," followed by the Top 40 single "Lo(v/s)er." Alongside the release of the singles, Tracey also worked on his debut album. The self-titled release dropped at the beginning of 2019, featuring a wide range of influences, including Afrobeat, dancehall, and country. - Apple Music

Biography

South Korean edutainment brand Pinkfong created apps, games, videos, and hundreds of children's songs on its streaming video channel, including "Baby Shark," an infuriatingly catchy earworm beloved of toddlers the world over, which racked up an astonishing two billion views.

Founded in 2010 as part of the SmartStudy company, a subsidiary of Samsung Publishing, the brand began with Pinkfong himself. This animated pink fox, prince of the planet Staria, was modeled on the friendly fox in The Little Prince and gave his name to a streaming video channel which hosted children's songs. In 2015, one of these, "Baby Shark," based on an old-time campfire song, became an international phenomenon, eventually racking up over two billion views and spawning a dance craze that was copied by celebrities like James Corden and Ellen deGeneres. It turned Pinkfong into a huge global brand and a range of spin-offs followed, including toys, books, live shows, an animated TV show set to be launched in 2019, and a record label. After a slew of digital-only compilations, their first physical album, Pinkfong Presents the Best of Baby Shark, was released in December 2018, with the "Baby Shark" song streamed so many times that it even hit the U.K. singles chart in Christmas week, at number 30. - Apple Music

Biography

“You have to be really open, I think,” Mabel tells Apple Music about the personal nature of her songwriting. “All the songs people really relate to, that’s because you’re being human and saying, ‘Look—this is the real.’” Born in 1996 in Spain, Mabel Alabama-Pearl McVey—daughter of Swedish artist Neneh Cherry and English producer Cameron McVey—has a knack for taking the intimate and relatable and turning it into spectacular, pumped-up pop. Mabel’s bright and beaming sound collects distinctive elements of music from the places she was raised, mixing sultry Latin grooves, irresistible melodies akin to Swedish pop and the bold beats one might hear in London’s dance clubs. Mabel started releasing singles before she turned 20, but it was the lust-driven “Finders Keepers”, from 2017’s Ivy to Roses, that turned into her first big hit; the snapping and skittering drums, dreamy synths and her smoky voice placed it squarely in classic ‘90s R&B territory. The success of “Finders Keepers” led to an opening slot on Harry Styles’ 2018 tour, and it wasn’t long after that Mabel had an international hit on her hands with “Don’t Call Me Up”, a track about leaving her ex in the dust that sways between hyper-groovy and soaring, spinning those real, heavy feelings into dance-floor gold. - Apple Music
