f***ING YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

absolutely nothing contentious about that. A clean overtake. There isn’t a shred of controversy about that move.

I am so glad Red Bull mastery of race stategy won the race and not a safety car. Red Bull out strategized circles around Mercedes and deserve it. What an amazing sports moment. So glad I got up early and watched from over here in U.S.

It's controversial because only 5 lapped cars went through, which wouldn't normally happen. They've let a race happen which in normal circumstances might not have done, a race which was only going to have one winner.

The contentious bit was the decision to allow lapped cars past and restart on the same lap, no?

I don't really mind either way tbh - still seems apt that it ended with controversy!

The stewards were in a no-win situation really with whatever they decided, but they have 100% manufactured it to get one laps worth of racing. It's probably the right decision to do that rather than finish behind the safety car.

You can say it's on Mercedes (and it probably is a bit) but if they pit Max likely doesn't to get track position, and then they're the ones moaning that they've let it finish.

I need to check the rule book again to see if it's ok to release only 5 cars and restart on the same lap.

I know it's unusual but not sure if allowed

Totally would have been moaning either way - I don't have any major grumbles as such, I'd have been fine with either of them winning.

Unbelievable, that was crazy. Now please hope this doesn't go to court or an appeal.
You either let all the lapped cars through or none at all. What a bizarre end to the race.

It says 'any cars' rather than all cars so it is rather ambiguous in whether all cars must.

Down to the clerk of the course

£326 from a £10 bet

YES MAX

Well done, :)

Congratulations Max Verstappen, :cheer:

I lost about 5 years of my heart during those final 4 laps :cheeseblock:

39.12 If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW

OVERTAKE" has been sent to all competitors via the official messaging system, any cars

that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars on the lead lap and the

safety car.

Because Nico Rosberg has just misquoted the rules

Theres no requirement under the rules they catch up to the pack again in the rules. Taking the lapped cars out of the way and allowing it to be a fair fight is consistent with their „let them race“ decisions

And no one can complain about this decision if they defended the lap 1 decision. Because even Sky UK think that was wrong

It’s nice to see a new world champion, am definitely happy for Max to realise his dream
