Posted January 4, 20214 yr Thank you to our colleagues in New Lexico for the first round of 2020's The Best of BJSC, and welcome to Persephonia for the quarter-finals round. Thirty of the top performing DNQs from throughout the year have successfully passed through to compete here against some bigger guns - now entering the competition are the biggest hit of the year by every country who didn't have any top 5 hits (so ranging all the way from songs that finished 6th down to token qualifiers from nations who only qualified once or twice during the year). Additionally, due to the fact they did not have any songs competing in the first round, the second biggest hits from Kathaldazia, Numayania, Pupok and Unovia have also been thrown into this round, as has the second biggest hit from Lookylion (their biggest hit will be going straight to the semi-finals). With this we've now seen at least one song representing every nation who entered during 2020 apart from three big hitters - Altyr Muunilinst, Hendinia and United States of Jack - who managed to both not have any DNQs and have multiple top 5 hits, so they'll still have multiple songs appearing in the later rounds. (edit: and also Mosquetania, how could I forget x) As in the qualifier stage, anyone who participated in BJSC in 2020 is free to vote in one, the other or both of these quarter-finals (whether or not you have any songs in them) - I encourage as many people as possible to vote! - but if you need an incentive beyond just supporting your faves, failure to vote in a quarter-final that you have a song competing in will incur a 15 point deduction for that song. That's probably going to apply to the majority of the songs here so think of it more as giving 15 free points to your own entry by voting xx I have balanced the quarter-finals here so each has 15 songs that appeared in the first round of TBO and 25 new songs, as well as making sure any countries with multiple entries have them split between the quarter-finals (except for Skall who have 3 songs in this round so necessarily have 2 appearances in Quarter-Final 2). Apart from that the running order has been sponsored by random.org as per. As in round 1 we'll be using the 18 point voting system (18/15/13/12/11/10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 for your fave through to 15th fave), so drop a PM to me after carefully listening through every song multiple times deciding on your votes with as much time and thought as you deem appropriate (I know it's a lot of songs, skimming is fine xx). Obvz you can't vote for yourself as always. And I'll set the deadline as 23:59 GMT on Monday 11th January, 2021 with results to follow on Tuesday 12th (realistically I'll accept votes during the day on the 12th too but don't leave it that late on purpose pls x). That'll be overlapping a little bit with BJSC 131's semi-finals but still leaves a few days either side to solely focus on both so I hope that's manageable. The top 20 songs from each quarter-final will be advancing to the semi-finals, competing with all of the year's 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th placing hits. Let the quarter-finals begin!
