February 6, 20214 yr Manic Street Preachers only show up once and not with either of their Number One singles. Also football songs are never on there except 'Three Lions '98' and identifiable Christmas songs are understandably absent so that rules out all four versions of 'Do They Know it's Christmas?' plus Merry Christmas Everyone etc. 'West End Girls' and 'Heart' by the Pet Shop Boys didn't make it either.

February 6, 20214 yr Ok what WAS on the NOW albums in 2000 then  Given the year had 43 different no.1s, still quite a lot! I’ve noticed a few errors in those lists though. Both Changes (2003) and Thunderbirds (2004) did appear on Now albums. Also I noted the following omissions that did not appear: Eminem-The Real Slim Shady (2000) Eminem-Like Toy Soldiers (2005) Leona Lewis-Run (2008) Alexandra Burke Feat Flo Rida-Bad Boys (2009)

February 6, 20214 yr Ok what WAS on the NOW albums in 2000 then  Unfortunately in the early 2000's, the Hits albums stopped Now! from getting the rights to alot of the Number 1's. They were very cheap and tacky albums as they used to feature 50+ hits on one disc, great value for money granted, but they used to fade tracks out about 2:30 through to squeeze all the songs on.
February 6, 20214 yr The Hits albums were hit and miss by the 00s but they always stole some massive hits. I loved Hits 55, I got that in the Easter holidays in 2003 when my sister got Now 54. It was one of the better albums. Hits 56 however had about 15 great tracks that could have been on Now 55 and loads of filler. Now 55’s filler was simply better.
February 6, 20214 yr Some artists wandered from Hits to Now or from Now to Hits. Wet Wet Wet and Johnny Hates Jazz were both on Hits 6 but later featured on Now 11 with follow up hits. Johnny Hates Jazz and Wet Wet Wet only appeared on Hits 6 because there was no NOW release in summer 1987 otherwise they’d have appeared on NOW had there been a release then
February 8, 20214 yr None of B*Witched's number ones made it to a Now (or indeed, any of their singles outside of that) but they were on the BRITS Abba tribute 'Thank Abba for the Music' that was on Now 42.
February 8, 20214 yr Going by The Now That's What I Call Music Book and not counting double A-sides where one side featured, I think these were the #1s from 1983-89 that didn't feature: 1983 (w/e 15/01/83 onwards) Michael Jackson - Billie Jean David Bowie - Let's Dance Spandau Ballet - True Police - Every Breath You Take Billy Joel - Uptown Girl 1984 George Michael - Careless Whisper Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You Wham! - Freedom Chaka Khan - I Feel For You Jim Diamond - I Should Have Known Better Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love [remix made Now 46, 2000] Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? 1985 Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson - I Know Him So Well Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round [until re-release made Now 63, 2006] Philip Bailey with Phil Collins - Easy Lover USA For Africa - We Are The World Phyllis Nelson - Move Closer Paul Hardcastle - 19 Crowd - You'll Never Walk Alone Madonna - Into The Groove David Bowie and Mick Jagger - Dancing In The Street Jennifer Rush - The Power Of Love Wham! - I'm Your Man Whitney Houston - Saving All My Love For You Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone 1986 Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls A-Ha - The Sun Always Shines On TV Diana Ross - Chain Reaction Cliff Richard and the Young Ones - Living Doll George Michael - A Different Corner Falco - Rock Me Amadeus Spitting Image - The Chicken Song Madonna - Papa Don't Preach Madonna - True Blue 1987 George Michael and Aretha Franklin - I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) Mel and Kim - Respectable Ferry Aid - Let It Be Madonna - La Isla Bonita Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) Firm - Star Trekkin' Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin Madonna - Who's That Girl Michael Jackson with Siedah Garrett - I Just Can't Stop Loving You Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up Bee Gees - You Win Again 1988 Aswad - Don't Turn Around Pet Shop Boys - Heart Fairground Attraction - Perfect Bros - I Owe You Nothing U2 - Desire Whitney Houston - One Moment In Time Enya - Orinoco Flow Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine 1989 Kylie and Jason - Especially For You Jason Donovan - Too Many Broken Hearts Madonna - Like A Prayer Bangles - Eternal Flame Kylie Minogue - Hand On Your Heart Jason Donovan - Sealed With A Kiss Sonia - You'll Never Stop Me From Loving You Black Box - Ride On Time Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers - That's What I Like Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World New Kids On The Block - You Got It (The Right Stuff) Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers - Let's Party Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas? David Bowie and Mick Jagger - Into the Groove Should be 'Dancing In The Street', surely?
February 8, 20214 yr Also 'Every Breath You Take' by the Police (the notes for the first album actually list the 5 missing!) Thanks, I've edited that in. Two other Paul Hardcastle songs appeared on NOWs (Just For Money and The Wizard) but apparently not 19!
February 8, 20214 yr This isn't a list that you want to top x It is assuming they have the no1’s but some business men decided to i push for other songs on those cd’s. Imagine World of our own not making it to any NOW cd. This is a crime
February 9, 20214 yr I see Westlife topping this list too! And still in the EU This isn't a list that you want to top x Posts of the year already
February 9, 20214 yr And here are the #1s from 1990-99 which I don't think appeared, again not counting double A-sides where one side featured (and if neither side featured, I've only listed the first): 1990 New Kids On The Block - Hangin' Tough Kylie Minogue - Tears On My Pillow Snap! - The Power Madonna - Vogue EnglandNewOrder - World In Motion Partners In Kryme - Turtle Power Maria McKee - Show Me Heaven Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby Cliff Richard - Saviour's Day 1991 Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter Simpsons - Do The Bartman Chesney Hawkes - The One And Only Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You Michael Jackson - Black Or White 1992 Boyz II Men - End Of The Road Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You 1993 Take That featuring Lulu - Relight My Fire Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby Take That - Babe 1994 Mariah Carey - Without You Take That - Everything Changes Prince - The Most Beautiful Girl In The World Manchester United Football Squad - Come On You Reds Baby D - Let Me Be Your Fantasy 1995 Celine Dion - Think Twice Take That - Back For Good Robson & Jerome - Unchained Melody Take That - Never Forget Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone Robson & Jerome - I Believe Michael Jackson - Earth Song 1996 Take That - How Deep Is Your Love Prodigy - Firestarter Baddiel and Skinner / Lightning Seeds - Three Lions ['98 version made Now 40, 1998] Fugees - Killing Me Softly Gary Barlow - Forever Love Fugees - Ready Or Not Chemical Brothers - Setting Sun Robson & Jerome - What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted Peter Andre - I Feel You Dunblane - Knockin' On Heaven's Door Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 1997 Tori Amos - Professional Widow (It's Got To Be Big) LL Cool J - Ain't Nobody Michael Jackson - Blood On The Dancefloor Gary Barlow - Love Won't Wait Olive - You're Not Alone Puff Daddy & Faith Evans - I'll Be Missing You Oasis - D'You Know What I Mean? February 9, 20214 yr I guess many of them would have been due to licensing rights and a few of them were probably down to bad timing but I'd be interested to know why some of the others were omitted. There's some pretty huge number ones in that list!
February 9, 20214 yr Johnny Hates Jazz and Wet Wet Wet only appeared on Hits 6 because there was no NOW release in summer 1987 otherwise they’d have appeared on NOW had there been a release then Isn't that speculation?
