Technically leaning more towards alternative, this pop song has me perched for its use of synths. It starts off relatively serene as Emilie Nicolas guides us through the first half. Then, the instrumental keeps building with a couple of buildups and drops. This is surely a sonic experience.

This is quite an upbeat Swedish bop. The lyrics are entirely written in Swedish!

 

DAYYANI - Up n Down

 

It's absolutely catchy. The instrumental break is the highlight for me. Love a good Danish pop!

 

Markella - Burn Again

 

This is more contemplative than the above two songs. The synths are sonically interesting. Like Amanda Tenfjord, she is also a Norwegian-Greek. Will we see her in Eurovision in the future? :unsure:

Nathy Peluso - EMERGENCIA

 

It is an addictive song. I wasn't that much of a fan at first but the chorus has me hooked. :o It is extremely catchy and Nathy's charissma is unignorable. The bridge builds up nicely to a big climax. Such a banger!

When Scotland meets Galicia, you get this! This is unique and is also quite catchy.

 

Sila Lua - Rompe

 

Another high-energy bop, this song gives so much flavour. I love the vocals and especially the strong instrumentation here. It bangs. She is destined to be viral!

 

Mariel Mariel - La Batalla

 

This is more alternative than the ones above. It does have an extremely catchy hook though. There is some interesting instrumentation as well. All in all, I quite enjoy the flow of this.

LRS investigated for misuse of public funds

The right-wing opposition party Rise Up Bros! has called for checks to be made on Longorama of Sovarasma (LRS) which was approved by the Parliament due to defection from some members of the governing parties. They claim that the broadcaster has overspent public funds on "the co-hosting of Buzzjack Song Contest 152 in Ug and promotion of Nathy Peluso" which neglected other areas of the broadcaster such as "the quality of the news and entertainment programmes".

During the debates, the opposition party has repeatedly called the results of Sovarasma in Buzzjack Song Contest 152 a "disgrace" and has failed to acknowledge an "open and transparent" process for selecting its artists. They also questioned their artistic direction, which they described to be "a car driving into a tornado". They call for a reduction in government budget on LRS and more on military spending, claiming "to protect them from rising extraterrestrial threats".

Head of delegation Aoede has insisted their selection method and has emphasized that they have appropriately spent within the budget on promotion and hosting. The critically acclaimed reception of the broadcast quality was recognised by its local residents and beyond. She has called such checks "ridiculous and hollow", and questioned whether these checks are more of a misuse of public funds instead.

President Canola has not commented further.

Sad to see this NQ :( I really love the acousticness of the song. It starts off with a stripped instrumentation that emphasises on Emelie Hollow's clear and pristine vocals. Then, the instrumentation is gradually amped up, until we have a tremendous climax towards the end. It is pop ballad excellence and I hope y'all enjoy the song!

One of the most exquisite ballads I've ever heard, Weyes Blood experiments with different sounds and piece together a lovely work. The latter half of the song is especially brilliant, as the birds chirping at the background produce an ethereal atmosphere.

 

The Album Leaf ft. Saro - You Are

 

It's another touching song. This time the strings play the main role here. Once again it starts off with minimal instrumentation, and it builds up to a big drop in the latter half -- an explosion of greatness. It is wonderfully produced and you'll be moved by the extraordinary soundscape here!

 

Elisa - Se Não Me Amas

 

Elisa was robbed of a Eurovision participation in 2020 but this song would've been a moment for Portugal. The instrumentation is traditional, but it is this which makes the song so special. It's also sung in Portuguese which highlights the beauty of the language. The ups and downs of this song take you on a memorable journey.

It was a rather sad ending to an underwhelming half-year theme for Sovarasma. Nonetheless, this is an entry I really loved last year and I have to convince myself to send this to BJSC to give them the limelight they deserve, even though I know full well this will tank hard. Hope this song has picked up a few fans, especially those who like an introduction to pop music in Hong Kong! :heart:
