New Years Day, Tim McGraw & hoax are all v. good and songs I love but I'm not too gutted that any missed the top 100. (only really go back to NYD on said day, TM cos its her debut & a lead single & hoax cos its on folklore)

good riddance to the last time. I should love it cos Taylor + run/chasing cars are 2 of my fave songs ever but it never works for me when I listen to it

TREACHEROUS THO   WTAF?!?! Should easily be top 50 (and pretty much would be on any other forum you flops x). Tbh it never fully hit me until a couple years ago and now I'm like how did I sleep on that masterpiece for so long so hopefully y'all be the same x that bridge/final chorus is HEAVENLY. whew a masterpiece.

here's some quick clues cos I'm v. busy atm xx Will reply and analyse the previous clue reveals later!!

101-105 clues:

A single goes out and that album bleeds in this section by also losing an album track

That previous single going out is just the start as we lose another single this round

It's time for a celebration :cheer:

These clues are the truth.

hint breakdown time, y'all got it being the last time FINALLY leaving thank f*** :cheer:

Red continues to lose so many songs and I oop  the last time was the single as y'all got it & #JusticeForTreacherous

the other single was Tim McGraw. using 'start' in that sentence = start of her career = debut single

celebration = NYD

truth = hoax

v. sorry for the delay, its been a hectic week

Here's some quick clues now for 101-105 and I'll post tomorrow evening, which will then be followed by a recap & album songs remaining breakdown :cheer: :

One album loses two songs, both so so close to the top 100. Maybe in the future y'all will appreciate and dance to these bops

One song was a single and doesn't have a video. Another song was a single but not the single and this wasn't in the video.

and that brings us nicely finished with the songs that missed the top 100 x

I just realised I forgot to include the masterpiece that is Macavity in this rate and now I am v. annoyed :kink:

I did wonder about this actually but then I forgot

Last time to guess as the final 5 that missed will be coming around midnight!

I did wonder about this actually but then I forgot

Tbf it would’ve been unfair if we included it as it would’ve swept so easily :kink:

Does that mean you approve of the placement?

help I was drunk then and forgot to properly comment on this section

Lowkey nope :kink: Should've been top 75!!! A robbed BOP and such an underrated gem, I need this on spotify again ASAP  Though I did think it'd finish around ~150 so I'll take 113 anyway

On the rest of that section, I Wish You Would is the worst song on 1989 and drags it down and should've been way lower, at least it weren't top 100. Similarly, Dress is the worst song on reputation and probs should've been a lil lower. Begin Again is fine but in the right place, I never really go back to it. And I gave Tell Me Why an 8 which I'm kinda surprise at as I always bop to it but forget it exists about 5 minutes later. Tho Taylor's Version has made me appreciate and go back to it more, and actually remember it exists :kink:

#101-#105:

101. End Game (ft. Ed Sheeran & Future) [Avg. 7.45 (more 10's)]
102. Dancing With Our Hands Tied [Avg. 7.45 (less 10's)]
103. Closure [Avg. 7.45 (more 9's)]
104. Only The Young [Avg. 7.45 (less 9's)]
105. Lover (First Dance Remix) [Avg. 7.44]

So in this section, we have 2 songs from Rep including the 3rd official single, our most recent non-album droplet, the 2nd evermore track to leave and a remix version of a single.

Let's start with the ones that didn't deserve to make the top 100 and have rightly exited at the right point. At 105, we have version 2 of 3 of Lover in this rate, with just the original remaining. The first dance remix is v. nice and cute but the original is way better and this has highkey way overstayed its welcome in this rate. Still v. good though ofc. This got quite a few 9's and quite a few 5's, solid scores overall. Only the Young is a cute bop, this is probs around the right placing for it but about ~20 places lower would've probs been better. This is a Joel Little produced track and you can tell from the production elements + the choir background. It's a cute Lover left-over bop and better then quite a few songs that made the final album (and you guys obvs agree with that!) and works nicely at the end of the wonderful Miss Americana documentary (go watch on Netflix) but yeah it isn't a discography high. It charted at like 57 in the UK, whew a smash. As with this paragraph, this also received consistent scores with the exact same range as Lover First Dance. it narrowly misses out on being one place higher. I am SHOCKED that closure did that well. Even more shocked that it wasn't the first song out on evermore, and that it wasn't a distant last based on songs from that album. And honestly it should've been. It's definitely the biggest filler track from the folkmore era and I feel this rate placement isn't going to age well, I can see it being like 30-40 places lower if we redid this with the same songs in a few years. Tbf its easily the most consistent song scorewise in the rate so far, only getting between 6's and 9's!

Now we are going to have a chat

I'm even more annoyed cos if I wasn't so stingy gave one of them a 10 instead of 9.5's then one of them would've made the top 100 gah. Especially as, slight hint time, the entire 96-100 are worse than these 2 songs

My beloved reputation takes a hit here  Let's start with the song that comes 102nd based on the tie, the WONDERFUL Dancing With Our Hands Tied. I am pretty surprised this didn't come higher, I would've probs guessed around ~80 for it before I totalled up the results!! Such a fabulous bop, wonderfully chaotic, the verses are full-speed bop and I love the breakdown in the chorus. The lyrics are so good and add perfectly to the vibe of the song, the I'm a mess lyrics is one of my fave Taylor lyrics and damn I adore this song. It's aged well too. Quite a lot of people in general seem to prefer the acoustic version of this she performed on tour but gimme this song in its original form anyday over the acoustic x Whew a Rep CLASSIC. Deserved top 100 gah. It received a 10 from fellow mod Ready For It and a 9.5 from me but a lot of 6's and 7's/7.5's did it in here. And then just missing out on the top 100 we have the 3rd official single from Reputation, the on-paper SMASH End Game, reuniting Taylor with that ginger singer & having one of her first rent-a-rapper songs. This seemed like such an obvious #1 hit when announced but it completely bombed in every single charts and I oop. (if only they'd put this song on spotify the same day as Rep I stand by it would've have underperformed so drastically x). End Game is such a fabulous BOP and honestly gets way too hard of a time. I was v. nervous about this song when it was announced cos I could do without either of the features but Future is fine on it, and Ed I guess meh but fine. Taylor is fab tho and the chorus bops. The bridge THOUGH. Whew career HIGHLIGHT. I hit you like bang  Ahh that entire part of the song is FIRE and makes the song pretty perfect for me. I still go back to it regularly and I'm gutted it just missed the top 100 here  Tbh I was kinda expecting this to be a bit lower as its never been a fan favourite so I'll take that at least. The video is also pretty good and underrated, yeah its not the most exciting video but that look in the aforementioned bridge is PERFECTION. whew I live for that part of the video. 10's from Jktoon & Among Haus are enough to push it ahead of DWOHT. This also received a 9.5 from myself ofc & quite a lot of 9's. But two 5's, two 4's and a 3 are enough to drag its average down pretty massively!

And we've now reached the top 100 point whew :cheer: what's been your favourite and least favourite parts of the rate so far :o Recap coming now!
  • Author

Lemme just point out that despite 101-104 all having the same average, End Game/DWOHT were higher with 7.452 unrounded whilst the other two were 7.447 unrounded x

Also hints for 96-100 will come tomorrow evening cos y'all can comment on the recap instead today x

Hmm could one of them be the original Bad Blood?

A good guess but alas it wasn't! I'm kinda surprised that it's still in tbh :o

One album hint = reputation. Future = Future the rapper, who is ofc on End Game. Dance = dancing with these hands tied. (I rly wanted to fit in an avengers clue with end game but I couldn't work it out, Jonjo help me x)

Single without a video = Only The Young. Single but not a single & wasn't in video = Lover (First Dance Remix), obviously the original version of lover is used in the video!

brings us nicely finished = closure

Album Breakdown of Songs Remaining:
- sidenote: for the albums which have remixes included (e.g. Delicate remixes & that), I've done 2 separate tallies of the album + era

Taylor Swift - 4/15
Fearless - 8/19
The Holiday Collection - 0/6
Speak Now - 11/17
Red - 7/19 (acoustics - 8/22)
1989 - 14/16 (1989 era - 16/18)
reputation - 8/15 (rep era - 9/18)
Lover - 12/18 (lover era - 12/21)
Non-Album Singles - 2/16
folklore - 15/17
evermore - 15/17

Biggest losers in 101-150: Red (10), Fearless (8), Taylor Swift (7)
Medium losers in 101-150: reputation (6), NAS (5), lover (4), speak now (4)
The winners in 101-150: 1989 (2), folklore (2), evermore (2)

not 1989, folklore and evermore making up over 50% of the top 100   soz if you don't like those albums xoxo

Speak Now also doing terrifically well too!! Only losing 6 songs despite being country Taylor. Lover's also holding on well enough, losing a 1/3rd of the songs + all 3 of the remixes from that era.

Fearless lowkey doing better than I expected, wouldn't have thought that many songs would be in still but here we are! Selftitled not doing great but honestly that's a respectable amount of songs considering how most disregard it as a mixtape

Red though?!?! WHAT WENT WRONG?!?! Losing 14 songs from one of her best regarded albums and we ain't even at the top 100 yet, ouch. What happened here :o

the non-album singles, lol. but then considering how badly they all did in the singles rate this ain't a shock and I oop.

imma do a post tomorrow evening of all the songs per album remaining, but that'll wait till then because that is too many posts (esp long posts with info) from me in a row x
what's been your favourite and least favourite parts of the rate so far :o

Favorite part: reading everyone's thoughts/comments

Least favorite: seeing my favorites drop out of the rate too early

Thanks for writing all this detail! Looks amazing and very interesting!

For me, I’m so happy that Speak Now is doing better than expected. I can’t say it’s my favourite album because I love most of the albums for different reasons and go back to them all in any given day, but Speak Now is awesome and deserves this love! Red is actually one of my least favs. I’ve always felt there were too many filler tracks. I liked it at the time but then 1989, Reputation came along etc. and bam :cheer:

There a couple of songs though that I listen to a lot and wish hadn’t gone out quite so early:

Hey Stephen - 150!!!

Ours - 121!!!

New Years Day -

And I too am loving everyone’s contributions which is making this so much more fun :)

I think 'End Game' is my favourite of that bunch!

I don't consider 'Reputation' one of my absolute favourite Taylor eras but the singles run is solid. Could've been even better with 'Getaway Car' too!

"End Game" was an uneventful mis-fire of a single - here's how the Reputation era should have gone =

Look What You Make Me Do
I know this was dragged through the mud critically, but in my opinion this was an iconic reinvention, with attitude, drama & the theatrics, I really found this a catchy bop that yes probably works better within the context of the album & was the correct & only choice for lead single.

I Did Something Bad
Scrap 'Ready For It' - never been keen on that mess of a track. Find that this would have been a far better choice as its a fierce bop that references her celebrity feud's with Kanye & Kim, yet feels empowering at the same time.

Getaway Car
Easily the best song on the album & if released instead of the awful 'EG', then this could have easily smashed with its accessible hooks & catchy rhythms. (Imagine what the music video could have looked like).

Delicate
Yes keep this as single #4 as this showcases a more vulnerable & emotional side to the album. Scrap the messy release schedule by having just 3 singles before it instead of all the confusing promos & was 'Gorgeous' a single (I'm not sure).

Call It What You Want
Probably the most underrated song on the album & out of all the promo singles, this was easily the best with its more gentle & warm sound that reflects a more personal feel to Taylor than before & would have been a nice closer to this era.
'End Game' is underrated here but tbh that's probably higher than I'd have predicted it to finish lol x (surprised that it's ahead of 'Gorgeous').
