I personally don’t believe that them having a monopoly on certain products, therefore excuses their poor communications skills, leaving customers in the dark with quiet/unexplained delays, as well as deleting every piece of bad feedback on their socials! Or that customers should simply be grateful for their existence, no matter what. I don’t think it’s reasonable to have the stance that customers should be beholden to them.

Ultimately, the key word here is transparency - fair enough if they have to take pre-orders to gauge up how many copies they need to print / order, but then they need to be honest with the fact that it's what they're doing and that they have a floating release date. Not lead customers on that it's going to be released at a certain date when they never make the date. As you've said, they've handled enough releases at this point to get an idea about all the issues that go into releasing these products.

I agree they need to be clearer about a floating release date and it's unfair they hold people's money for months before getting what they paid for.
This last few pages are a ride to read, like Lisa was getting offered anything by any other label to re-issue a flop album. It was plastic pop or nothing and I'm sure they went to her.

Plastic pop works because they release titles that no other label in their right mind would bother to release, so for the very niche fans it is that or nothing.

You all should be just thankful for plastic pop because delays or not you wouldn't be getting these releases any other way and of course they have to keep it all to a very tight budget and not have 500 copies of anything sat left unsold.

 to all of that.

Plastic Pop likely offered Lisa the best deal.

She has a relationship with BMG via Steps who would be aware that ‘flop’ album or not Steps as a band have a fanbase that buy physicals which would overspill into solo projects but a standalone album reissue is not really their market.

You have labels like Cherry Red releasing ‘flop’ albums week in, week out in multiple formats (including albums that have never charted or massively underperformed) so I’m certain that Plastic Pop wasn’t her only option.

Also, not sure I’m ‘thankful’ to Plastic Pop or any label that has items on pre-order for 6+ months with full payment upfront, does a really poor job at keeping to any kind of release timeframe and goes silent on emails and socials as soon as there is yet another delay.

Thing is which business is going to admit their downfalls? 'Pre-order this album on vinyl, we aren't sure of the release date as it will depend on demand'. That is a massive red flag and would put loads of people off and then the release wouldn't be viable.

I mean major labels have huge delays on vinyls and releases, yes they are better at letting buyers know but then they have a big team to deal with letting customers know about delays.

At the end of the day anyone can cancel their order if they aren't happy with Plastic pop.

This!

24/7 sounds okish, like a 5/10 for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought it was the 13th?

Oops.

I'd be shocked if it comes out at all.

I thought it was the 13th?

Oops.

You were correct, I had the incorrect date.

Do they usually confirm releases are going ahead the week before or is it a case we find out at the last minute they wont be shipping and are given a new date?

Basically the latter. PP didn’t even acknowledge the release had changed from August until that “fake” but actually probably “not fake” email did the rounds.

Maybe delusional but I still got my fingers crossed it gets released the 13th..

PP have posted this date waaaaay too many times now to delay it again!

Firstly you are rude

I think after basically laughing at everyone's comments saying the last few pages have been a ride you really have no room to call anybody else rude.
