To be fair, I don't think *she* went to Plastic Pop - I think they came to her (or her former label / management) wanting to license it for release.

I just had to explain Plastic Pop's tendency to delay their releases at another forum :arrr:

I wouldn’t mind if they hadn’t been on pre-order since March, they obviously can’t work to any kind of timescale and obviously wait for pre-orders to come in before any orders are placed rather than thinking let’s go with a run of 1k or something, they only want guaranteed sales which is a flawed business model clearly :lol:

Maybe - although they actively go after artists and titles, they probably offer a great deal over indies… but can’t guarantee what year it will be released :lol:

It might be flawed but it must be making money for them the way they are doing it.

At this point the guessing game will be how many times will it get pushed back before it actually gets released.

The current date almost coincides with the 18th anniversary of Electric :lol: (10th October 2005)

This last few pages are a ride to read, like Lisa was getting offered anything by any other label to re-issue a flop album. It was plastic pop or nothing and I'm sure they went to her.

 

Plastic pop works because they release titles that no other label in their right mind would bother to release, so for the very niche fans it is that or nothing.

 

You all should be just thankful for plastic pop because delays or not you wouldn't be getting these releases any other way and of course they have to keep it all to a very tight budget and not have 500 copies of anything sat left unsold.

A 2 month delay is the closest a release has ever actually been shipped compared to its original shipping date! That’s poor form of any company. Just because he manages to get some “wanted” albums on vinyl does not warrant delay after delay after delay! It’s unprofessional.

I would say now he’s announced a specific date… I doubt it would change again but, we shall see.

Was the date for August not specific aswell though?

Firstly you are rude and secondly I didn't say it was professional I said it was plastic pop or nothing. No one else was ever going to reissue this album, so shut up and accept it will be delayed as they are a tiny label who cant afford to make a loss or cancel your order then you wont have to accept anything.

 

It isn't hard to realise plastic pop are releasing these albums on a very tight margin and yes delays are not great but the margins are so tight because they are releasing super niche albums that wont sell much at all. Or they could guess how many orders they would get make 600 copies too many, go bust and you get sod all (which is probably what you deserve).

I personally don’t believe that them having a monopoly on certain products, therefore excuses their poor communications skills, leaving customers in the dark with quiet/unexplained delays, as well as deleting every piece of bad feedback on their socials! Or that customers should simply be grateful for their existence, no matter what. I don’t think it’s reasonable to have the stance that customers should be beholden to them.

 

I believe that they’ve handled enough releases by now that they should have an understanding of their own business’ viability. By now they should have a good idea of what an achievable pressing number is, based on previous orders. Releasing 4 different Lisa formats suggests a reasonable level of confidence in the product that they can justify selling variants of it. The business ought to have realised by now that they are never able to stick to the initially proposed release date… and that they should be way more upfront about how their business operates - i.e. they’re very prone to delays, so be more explicit that this is likely to be the case. They launch preorders by vaguely stating a season i.e. Lisa was summer. The only thing that can be guaranteed is that their items will not end up being released during that proposed season. :P

 

For the record I haven’t ordered any Lisa items. I had a feeling what would happen. I wasn’t wowed by their customer service for the Nicola items I bought a couple of years ago, so I’ve been wary of them since.
