Taken ‘Spice’ out of the topic title for the time being, now that Wannabe is properly confirmed, I don’t want it to be misleading to seem like Spice is confirmed yet!

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Spice Girls debut single 'Wannabe' (originally released 8 July 1996 in the UK) UMC / Virgin are releasing a new four song 'E.P.' (Extended Play) on 12" Picture Disc.

 

Alongside the original single and an in-demand remix by Junior Vasquez (originally a bonus track on the 1996 '2 Become 1' CD Single) is the original demo recording, and 'Feed Your Love', a ballad written by Spice Girls and 'Wannabe' co-writers Richard 'Biff' Stannard and Matt Rowe, recorded for the album 'Spice' but previously unreleased.

 

'Wannabe' was a No. 1 single in 35 countries (Source: Billboard magazine) with physical sales in excess of 7 million copies. In 2020 'Wannabe' was Spotify's most streamed '90s song by a female artist.

The announcement of the vinyl isn't till 6pm so this is a little early.

Surely Wannabe is way over 7 million by now? It’s been on 7 million since 1998… since then it’s sold what 500k in the U.K. it went from 1 million to 2.9 million in the USA… I’d say it was on around 9-10 million by now?

The video is cute and we now have confirmation of the new 'total' sales of the group: 90million which is 5million more than the usual 85million that has been banded around for the last few years (since the Olympics?...)

I love how Mel C is always ready to share Spice information without doing copy-paste. You can see she really cares and now I start to get certain things about past b-sides comments. She always wants to try to give the best to us Spice fans.

I'm so excited we are getting Feed Your Love after all these years. Thankfully they are releasing the song on Spotify because I would never pay that much for one new song.

According to the OCC article about this release this will still hit streaming on the 9th of July
