Mugs which have images of them on, not just the Spice 25 logo. They could have a mug with the picture of them that was used on the Wannabe 25 vinyl. They could have a mug using the Spice 25 logo that has the pictures of them in the letters. They could have mugs using the images that are used for the Spice 25 vinyl versions - i.e. a red coloured mug with the image of Victoria on it, etc.

Christmas related items, as suggested, really seems like a no brainer too. There's retro images of them in Santa outfits - use them on Christmas cards, baubles, an advent calendar, a jumper (which would look garish, but that's the aesthetic of a Christmas jumper). Bobble hat. Scented candles.

I also like the suggestion of a 2022 calendar - they could always make it a 25th anniversary calendar, with retro 1996 images included in it.

A2 wall posters.

Even little things like a key ring and fridge magnets, maybe using the "logo going downwards" image being used on the upcoming cassettes.

Phones cases and popsockets.

If they want to do more clothing, I would suggest they explore loungewear. Maybe some people aren't loud and proud enough to be wearing Spice jumpers and t shirts in public, but would be interested in PJs, nightwear (shorts/t-shirt set), onesie, sweatpants. Even socks! Just something different than hoodies and t-shirts.

Admittedly their lithogram from a few years ago took ages to sell out, but they could still do a run of limited edition prints using the main Spice 25 image, or the solo vinyl girls. They could even go wild and have the girls sign a few of the prints.

Stationary items... a journal book, set of pens.

Jewellery - Spice logo rings / a pendant with a Spice ring on it.

~~~~~~~~~~
The possibilities with merch are endless! Given the Spice Girls ruled the 90s by showing exactly how much merch can be produced, it is quite funny in recent years that their team can't see beyond t shirts, sweaters and hoodies.
:cheeseblock:
You have to think what your average 35 year old would buy though. Lounge wear I like the idea, that's a good one especially with winter coming up.
Christmas stuff is obviously an option but come 26th December you are left with stock that's worth a lot less and needs getting rid of.
A calendar, do many people still have calendars? Maybe they do, but again it's going to be worth a lot less come Jan 1st.
They did a Spice ring for the 2019 tour, which was cute but cheap. It's the only real jewellery item that is viable as it has a proper Spice connection, anything else will be cheap pointless stuff.
The latest merch having an October 1st shipping date is most likely so they could gauge orders in the 1st week or so and know round about the sort of quantities needed with a few extra and minimal loses or stock at reduced prices.
Emma's vinyl is now sold out on the official store so that's the CD, ginger and baby vinyls sold out (and the ginger and baby bundle too obviously). Unless they can restock them I'd assume the store will sell out of all the individual vinyls.
Interestingly HMV limits them to only 2 copies max per customer.
Today marks 25 years since 'Spice' was released in Japan, the first country it was commercially released in!
There's something quite quaint about how releases were handled before the rise of the internet... it does seem crazy to think that 'Spice' was available in full in Japan about 6-7 weeks before Europe, but of course back then there was little worry about it in terms of piracy, or and not much likelihood that there would be strong import sales.
What was the import sales thing all about in Japan?
Universal online stores (so the official webstore, sound of vinyl and record store) all come from the same stock. So the Baby and Ginger vinyls are sold out on them all.
Sporty has 71 vinyls left
Posh has 72
Scary has 173
I think once those are sold it will become increasingly hard to get the individual vinyls. HMV no one knows the stock amount, same with Amazon. I'd say if you haven't ordered your favourite individual vinyl yet to get it done.
:rolleyes: racism is a f***ing sickness, honestly. Tempted to buy a few more just of Scary! Hopefully any stock left will go to stores so that casual buyers at least pick those up.
They will all be sold out in a couple of weeks anyway. I checked last night and then earlier and they had sold 3 sporty, 6 posh and 5 Scary in like 12 hours.
I doubt any of the individual vinyls will be stocked in stores bar maybe HMV. I think in stores the push will be the CD and Zoetrope vinyl.
You've got that right. How utterly miserable. Even from an artistic standpoint, Mel B's photograph is arguably the most stunning of the five.
Mel B knows we love her though! :heart:
Mel B is the only slip mat I've bought, we should definitely rally round her more.
It’s always been like that. Sugababes got their success when the blond vanilla member joined (and guess what, she’s always been the last talented of the 6 girls).
The $ power is on white people. White people decide what’s successful.
I can’t afford to buy another vinyl (I’d do it for Mel B), but I also think it wouldn’t make any difference.
What we can do is praising her for what she is: a great performer and the driving force behind the Spice Girls.
I'm not sure I understand the question - but in the 90s, British HMVs (usually in big cities) would stock imports of singles and albums from other countries. Probably not in a prevalent enough quantity to worry UK labels that it would eat significantly into the sales of the eventual UK versions. I'm not sure if the Japanese Spice would have been sold here in 1996, but perhaps it was in a limited quantity. Another thing about imported versions is that they were quite a bit more expensive, so that would have been off-putting to many potential buyers to the extent they'd probably have settled for waiting.
I see, Jay. Thanks for letting me know. I don’t think I worded it right lol. Because when people mention the sales of ‘Spice’ they mention imports alone and not the overall sales and that always confused me.
Do we have any idea of how much Spice sold in Japan prior to the UK/European/Worldwide release, and how much it has sold in total?
It's amazing that they went to Japan 3 whole months before the UK, honestly, but good for them!
Billboard magazine had the total down as 718,000+ by March, 1997. By April, 1997 it went 4x Platinum (800k) and according to the official spice girls magazine’s August 1997 issue it had sold 1 million.
Wow thats great thank you!!
Spice Bus, from yesterday:
In celebration of 25 years of one of the most popular girl bands across the world, the Spice Girls, Spotify has recreated the iconic Spice Bus from the film Spice World and taken fans on the journey of a lifetime in the form of a Spice Girls’ tour across London.
Spice Girls ‘Wannabus’
The bus turned heads as it travelled through London, kicking off at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel London, where the iconic music video for ‘Wannabe’ was filmed.
Spotify’s Spice Bus then journeyed around the capital and over Tower Bridge (thankfully just driving and not flying through the air as in Spice World).
Spice Girls super fans on board the bus were treated to a dragtastic homage to the Spice Girls.
The bus tour was hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season one queen Baga Chipz taking inspiration from Ginger Spice.
Accompanying Baga were contestants from the new series of Drag Race which premieres later this week, each drawing inspiration and paying tribute to their ‘spirit Spice Girl’: Kitty Scott-Claus (Baby Spice), Ophelia Love (Sporty Spice), Vanity Milan (Scary Spice), and Ella Vaday (Posh Spice).
2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the Spice Girls. Their debut, and most streamed track of all time (with over 600 million streams), ‘Wannabe’ was released on 8 July 1996, followed by the album ‘Spice’ which launched in Japan on 19 September the same year before being rolled out globally, and has amassed an incredible 860 million streams in total over the years.
Spotify Spice Girl facts:
Famous Five
Following in the footsteps of Wannabe, the other tracks making up the top five most streamed on the Spice album are: ‘’2 Become 1’’, ‘’Say You’ll Be There’’, ‘’Who Do You Think You Are’’ and ‘’Mama’’.
Leading Ladies
‘Spice’ is still one of the most popular albums. With over 860 million streams, it has racked up more streams than albums from other female icons, including Taylor Swift’s Taylor Swift album, Britney Spears’ ‘…Baby One More Time’ , and fellow girl group Little Mix’s DNA.
Gen Z(ig-ah-zig-ah)
18-24 year olds are revealed to stream the Spice Girls the most, showcasing how their music has the ability to not only inspire but also transcend to a new generation.
Sulinna Ong, Spotify UK/IE, Head of Music said: ‘The Spice Girls have shaped the way the music industry operates today.
“Their message of female empowerment resonated across the world, no matter who you were or what you looked like – and continues into this day.
“The fact that 18-24 year olds stream the Spice Girls the most shows what an impact the girls continue to have around the world.
“Bringing back the Spice Bus is Spotify’s way of giving a little something back to the fans who have flown the flag for Girl Power over 25 years.’’
