Someone needs to tell Adele and Ed Sheeran they are wasting their time doing an ITV special filled with new performances, the MTV awards, BBC breakfast, radio interviews and so on. They could just stay at home and have a documentary or a show of old performances because it's the best promo they could get.

Spice 25 outsold Melanie C without the girls once being on radio or TV in the UK to promote it, without signing everything until their wrist hurt, without radio 2 play listing, without bundling a cd with a gig ticket. I know that must kill 2 of you but get over it.

Spice 25 outsold Melanie C by 533 copies. Your point has no merit.

Wow, great to see Spice return to the Top 5!

Part of me wishes they had done that little bit more, even just an Instagram live with each other would've been great to see. Just something special for the fans. But hey, I'll take what I can get!

Sorry, why making it about Melanie C vs Spice Girls when:

1) thanks to Mel we got two Spice related released in the top 10 in 2020/21

2) Melanie C was the Spice Girl that most of the them committed to the promotion of Spice25

3) After 25 years both group and solo we can see them charting and be proud of that as fans

I can’t understand the bitterness from both sides.

Really pleased with Top 5!

They were only 77 copies behind #4 so it’s a slight shame they came close to a higher position, but I suppose the main thing is that it’s Top 5, regardless of whether it was 4 or 5.

They threw a lot of formats at it & yes there were external things to help it along like the documentary and the BBC special, but they weren’t actively working to promote it themselves. The best we got was some Instagram videos from Melanie C. They could have done way more to give it more attention, but maybe it’s not the sort of thing they consider they need to do much work for, just consider it as something that’ll sell itself and for the label to focus on.

Great to see them back in the top 5, spice clearly past 3 million sales now.

3,022,091!

Spice sales this week: 7,798 copies

4,563 - Vinyl

1,464 - CD

1,219 - Cassette

364 - Streaming

188 - Download

So it's Thursday sales were: 275 copies

94 Vinyl

93 Streaming (this was two days worth of data)

39 Cassette

30 CD

19 Downloads

It'll likely need to sell 1300+ next week for it to stay Top 100, or about 850 for Top 200. I'm not really sure what to expect.

Thanks Jay it wasn't hard to understand. It's the highest charting Spice Girls related release since the GH was #2 in November 2007. Anyone who thinks a re-release of a 25 year old album going top 5 with no promotion from the artist themselves isn't a success is fooling themselves.

Anyway universal are in the final stages of agreeing on the designs and formats for Spiceworld 25. It has definitely been stressed to them more cds and a more affordable format would be better for next time so fingers crossed.

So biased. You decide when someone is successful or not according to your taste.. wow. To me, it’s a great result because our fans we support them whatever they do. It’s a flop, on the other hand, because none of them bar Melanie C (with posts, interviews and performances) has given anything back.

And by the way, artists promoting hard their releases are not cheating - they are working and doing something which is a bare minimum when it comes to a product they care for and want to do well!

I'm def more excited for spice world 25, I hope they have a surprise or 2 lined up.

Do you think spice has any chance at all of staying top 100 this week?

That was my next question? Will Spice be likely to have another week in the Top 100? 🤞

We will know on Monday, if it shows up in the midweeks.

You said I'm biased and decide what is successful or not because of my taste then go on to list why you deem things successful or not down to your own interpretation.

I happen to think Melanie C did amazing to get to #8 she pulled out all the stops and that is great for her and her fans but it also means that's her ceiling I'm not sure what she could have really done more to get more sales.

Spice did very well but it wasn't maxed, the girls didn't promote it, they didn't sign items, reduce prices etc. There is room for more sales this wasn't the ceiling for it. Still even without the maximum effort it was top 5 and sold 7.8k. If we remove streaming, downloads and cassettes it sold 6k of vinyls and cds with an average price of 20 odd quid. That to any label or artist will be seen as a big success without the outlay of a lot of things like studio time, a promotional tour etc.

It's not Top 100, unfortunately.

Well it’s over, midweek #171 today and I don’t think it’ll have the ability to remain Top 200 by Friday. 👀

Looking at the mids breakdown vinyls are selling nicely still but the CD sales have dried up. Though how you would convince a casual to buy a £30 CD now the fans have it is probably why. I can't think of an artist I like that I'm not a hard core fan of that I'd spend that kind of money on. Where as the vinyl price is pretty much in line with your average price so I can see why the lure of getting whoever was your favourite as a child is pulling in sales.

I guess Universal don't care though, it's done 10.5k first week just between the UK and France, I'm sure it's made loads of money and they will leave it now till January full price and just take those Christmas present sales at full price.
