March 18, 20223 yr Massive win, against one of the best teams of 2022 and with a man down. Looking at the season as a whole, Everton did most of the hard work at the start of the season, such that they could go on a truly dire run but then needed only one or two wins to pull away from danger. Not that they should even be anywhere the relegation zone anyway but here we are. Edited March 18, 20223 yr by Dobbo.
March 18, 20223 yr It was a big win for Everton, but there's still plenty of time to go. It relies on Watford/Burnley putting a bit of form together, but it could easily happen. I think it comes down to the last day of the season still.
March 18, 20223 yr I'd still be shocked if Burnley, got relegated. Probably the most surprising relegation since Newcastle in 08/09 if they did. But if we say Watford/Norwich are dead certs for the drop it's difficult to put a strong case for who that third team would be, at least until all the games in hand have been played.
March 19, 20223 yr Burnley have the lowest wage bill in the division every season they spend in the premier league is a shock for me!
March 19, 20223 yr Not quite. They're never far from it but the last season with full figures they were 17th above Watford, Norwich and Sheffield United. I'd love Everton to get relegated but here for Burnley finally disappearing. I'm not sure they'd do that much in the Championship, that squad is tired and it's not going to generate much revenue.
March 19, 20223 yr Fantastic to see Leeds come back against Wolves for a 3-2 win - hopefully that will give us a bit of breathing space above the relegation zone.

I'd love to see Everton relgated too, but I'd taker Burnley going down. They're a bit like Stoke and I do wonder if this is the end for them. It really does feel that style of football is on its way out in the Premier League. That win last night for Leeds was massive - still a long way to go and I do feel Burnley/Watford will pick up a few wins here and there.
March 20, 20223 yr People probably said that when Stoke left the division 😂 there’s more than one way of playing football which has been proven time and again.
March 21, 20223 yr Author Global investment firm Centricus is funding another British bid to buy Chelsea, saying it wants to "maintain and support existing management". The Premier League club was put up for sale by Russian owner Roman Abramovich before he was sanctioned following his country's invasion of Ukraine. This latest bid, backed by Centricus - which has £29bn in assets - features several Chelsea season-ticket holders. At least four consortiums have said they have bid to buy the Blues. There is a group featuring Sir Martin Broughton and Lord Coe, and one headed by British property investor Nick Candy. Candy increased his bid on Monday after the addition of another large international backer, a statement from his Blue Football Consortium said. The lifelong Chelsea fan is said to have improved on his £2bn bid after a large Korean financial institution joined his consortium over the weekend.
March 23, 20223 yr Author Manchester United have spoken to Ajax's highly rated coach Erik ten Hag about their vacant manager's job. Ralf Rangnick has been doing the job on an interim basis since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November. It is being stressed at Old Trafford that it is too early to start talking about favourites for the job, although the club do want to conclude the process as soon as possible.
March 23, 20223 yr Author The Ricketts family, which is aiming to buy Chelsea, says it will meet fans to allay concerns about its potential ownership. They are one of six groups who have made their bids for Chelsea public. The bidders are all waiting to hear if they have made a shortlist. Fans have criticised the Ricketts family's ownership of the Chicago Cubs baseball franchise, as well as anti-Muslim comments made by the family's patriarch Joe Ricketts in 2019. Paul Canoville, Chelsea's first black footballer, said on social media: "So I've seen and heard enough. I'm backing Chelsea Supporters' Trust and saying a big fat anti-racism NO to the Ricketts bid." On Wednesday the Ricketts family issued a statement, which said: "Our family rejects any form of hate in the strongest possible terms. Racism and Islamophobia have no place whatsoever in our society. We have developed deep and abiding partnerships with the Muslim community in Chicago, as well as with all communities of colour. "Respect for diversity and inclusion are central to our family's values. If we prevail in our bid for Chelsea, we commit to the club and to the fans that we will actively promote these values." Brian Wolff, the head of Chelsea's Chicago official supporters group and a Cubs fan, has also urged those handling the sale to reject the Ricketts bid in favour of other options after he claimed it had been met with "universal disdain" by fans in the US and worldwide.
March 23, 20223 yr Author Everton winger Andros Townsend has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Townsend came off early in the FA Cup defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday and a scan revealed he suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage. Everton said the 30-year-old "will undergo surgery next week before starting his rehabilitation". Townsend's absence comes as Toffees boss Frank Lampard tries to save his side from Premier League relegation. Everton are 17th in the top flight, just two points above the bottom three, although they do have games in hand on some of the rival teams around them.
March 28, 20223 yr Think this is my favourite paragraph of Barney Ronays Guardian article about Man United last week: "Manchester United will now cruise past five years without winning a trophy. During this time the club have employed three laughably disconnected managers, done nothing to promote or protect their own infrastructure, splurged on an incoherent jambalaya of starry players, tried to join a super league and, as a kind of sparkly distraction, elected to pay half a million pounds a week to a non-essential 37-year-old celebrity."
March 28, 20223 yr Articles like that are why players and managers should not pay any attention to the journalistic press. What is there constructive to take away from that?
March 28, 20223 yr Articles like that are why players and managers should not pay any attention to the journalistic press. What is there constructive to take away from that? They shouldn't pay attention but it is all true. Just like the Ten Haag stuff being leaked to the press - he would be a fantastic appointment, but under a DoF structure, otherwise not sure he is the right bloke for the job.
March 28, 20223 yr Which 3 managers are they referring to? You have to look at context at the time. I actually think every single appointment (bar Moyes) made sense at the time it was made. Too much outcome bias going on there. It's not like Spurs appointments for example which since Poch have been set in stone car crashes. Can't argue about the recruitment though although again, at least in recent years I don't remember there being too much discontent at any of the big signings at the time. Unfortunately almost every single player who joins us ends up leaving a worse player which says 50% about the standard of coaching and 50% that they simply can't handle the pressure of being a United player.
March 29, 20223 yr I think every managerial appointment was a reaction to the last manager just reacted to press criticism instead of getting the right man like the Labour Party since Brown left.
April 3, 20223 yr Author If Newcastle lose every game from now until the end of the season then they will still stay up. All the teams below them cant string two wins together and are worse than them
April 4, 20223 yr Yeah Newcastle will be on the beach pretty soon, nothing to play for now they've moved comfortably enough away from relegation.
