CLUB BIZARRE 16 : THE 70s AND THE 80s

 

 

Welcome to the 16th edition of Club Bizarre. This time, we are going back to the origins of dance music in the 1970s and the 1980s. Your task is to find something fantastic from those 20 years to enter. If nothing springs to mind immediately, here's a list of dance genres taken from wikipedia that might help you if you want to search some specific playlists for inspiration.

 

1970s

Disco, funk, R&B, hip hop.

 

1980s

New wave, Italo disco, Euro disco, post-disco, synthpop, dance-pop, dance-rock, funk, contemporary R&B, hip hop, new jack swing, house, acid house, hip house, techno, freestyle, Miami bass, bounce, electro, hi-NRG, boogie, Madchester, EBM, cosmic disco, Balearic beat, new beat.

 

As always, all entries will be vetted by the Dance Forum mods. Please send the details of your chosen entry by PM to myself with the artist name, song title and a youtube or soundcloud link.

 

If you are sending a remix, the remix must have been released before 1990. More recent remixes of songs from the 70s and 80s will not be allowed.

 

This is an anonymous contest, so please do not share or hint at what you are sending. Anyone is welcome to enter.

 

You have a week to come up with something. The deadline is 30th June at 23.59 BST

 

There will then be the first two weeks of July to listen to the songs.

I have a lot of 70s/80s gems stored away, just need to find one that's not so cheap :kink:

This is the first one I think I'm going to struggle with. My knowledge of 70s and 80s music outside of the big hitters is minimal

Interesting, I know loads of low top 40 dance-orientated hits from the 80s but not the 70s. I will try not to send anything too obvious as being sent by me.

I've had a little search around and already found something. It'll be an interesting theme considering the 70s/80s were well before my time and dance has changed a lot since, hopefully a few good discoveries will arise.

I didn't struggle but it did take me 3 hours of solid looking to go with a track I really wanted :kink:
