I'd be surprised if Dave dethroned Ed from #1 officially. Won't be too long before Ed Sheeran gets back to #1 on Apple, then he'll also have the advantage of better iTunes, Amazon and YouTube.

 

I'm guessing Dave will have a similar Spotify takeover later today but it won't be able to last all week.

'Clash' has re-overtaken 'In The Fire' to #1 on Apple.

 

Agree that it's unlikely that he'll overhaul Ed officially but he might have a decent chance of challenging for having 3 of the top 5 this week?

Although 'Heart Attack' obviously isn't going to make the overall chart due to the 3 track rule, interesting to note that 'In The Fire' (which looks certain to be one of his 3 charting songs) is also 7 minutes long itself - when was the last time such a long song charted this high? :thinking: (Justin Timberlake's 'Mirrors' comes to mind, that did have a shorter version made available eventually although iirc for the start of its chart run it was charting entirely on downloads of the 8 minute version).

 

It's kind of refreshing to see such a long song being an album track favourite / chart hit given the recent trend for many songs to be under 3 minutes if not barely pushing 2 minutes.

 

Even 'Clash', at a relatively normal seeming 4:12, was the 2nd longest song in yesterday's Spotify top 50 only behind the 4:38 'Body' remix which needed to make space for 9 artists :lol:

I was expecting Dave’s Stormzy collab to be at the top. As long as he knocks Ed off the top, that’s all that matters

I'm guessing 'Verdansk' will probably drop behind 'Clash' and 'In The Fire' on Spotify pretty quickly but it's comfortably enough ahead of everything else (and also his 3rd highest song on Apple) that it looks very likely those will be Dave's 3 chart songs (barring something else quickly taking off on TikTok or something).

 

All three songs on 750k+ on day 1 is a fantastic showing - I was just thinking for a second that they might still end up only charting in the low top 10 by the end of the week if the album bomb fades quickly as I was reminded of the 3 Drake songs earlier this year having a similarly strong start position-wise, but these songs have a 300k+ advantage over the numbers Drake did on Spotify on day 1 so they have a much bigger cushion, last week's #2 had relatively weak sales so unless something else is heading for a big sales rise this week (or Anne-Marie/Little Mix pick up more over the week) I think Dave ending the week with #2, #3 and #4 should be possible?

 

Ed is back to #1 on Apple btw. But yanno, we don't trust that any of Ed's numbers are legitimate and there's no way he's actually just doing really well on Apple etc.
