July 2, 20214 yr I bet whoever he is regrets it now, little did he know she would become a global pop star and write a load of songs about him that would become huge…
July 2, 20214 yr Her songs are all-but-confirmed to be about Joshua Bassett, another singer and her co-star in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Joshua's been supportive of Olivia and her music since the songs have been released (and he's released his own music too which could easily be seen as being about Olivia, so it works both ways) I think she's well within her rights to be making music about the emotions she felt throughout breakups, she's absolutely not the first (certainly considering her idol is Taylor Swift) and it's not necessarily how she feels at this specific moment. Olivia praised Joshua's recent music releases as well and they continue to work together on the HSM show so there's clearly not much bad blood between them in the end.
July 2, 20214 yr all the best singer-songwriters write about their life experiences, break-ups, f***-ups, relationships thats why they have a fanbase that connects with them from Phoebe Bridgers to Damien Rice to Bon Iver to Taylor Swift it's 100% normal if you like singe-songwriter stuff
July 2, 20214 yr I just worry about the toll on someone's mental health when their ex-partner airs all their grievances to millions of people across the world, especially when (granted, this is to the eye of someone who doesn't know much about their specific situation) he did the right thing in breaking up with somebody he didn't believe he was able to spend the rest of his life with. I didn't know that they still supported each others' careers and that's good to know, it does take the edge off it a bit. But there will be people out there who hear these songs and think it's okay to publicly disgrace their partner for anything without said mutual support and I worry how that would affect the subject of those outbursts. (I struggled with this with Taylor Swift as well for a long time but it does feel as though her songs have changed for the better in recent years, particularly songs like 'exile' which tells the story from both the male and the female point of view and is my favourite song by her)
July 2, 20214 yr The break-up of a relationship is indeed a very common theme for a song. There have been many albums based almost entirely around that subject. If the songs are along the lines of "My relationship broke up and I'm sad". that's not a problem. It's rather different if they are along the lines of "My ex is a bar steward".
July 3, 20214 yr I bet whoever he is regrets it now, little did he know she would become a global pop star and write a load of songs about him that would become huge… I would reject breaking up with Olivia Rodrigo even if she was t a famous popstar 😁
July 3, 20214 yr At least Doja’s album saved KMM from a massive fall Wonder if it got reset this week, not sure if it increased by enough, will be close I think.
July 3, 20214 yr What concerns me more is that Olivia's fans sent death threats to Josh after Drivers License whilst he was in hospital literally fighting for his life, and then mocked him on the post he made about it.
