Biography

Sigala

The Norfolk DJ and producer behind a string of house-pop hits in the 2010s, Sigala makes music that’s irresistible due to its joy and exuberance. His flair for songs full of sunny melodies and big energy reflects his solid grounding in soul, funk and pop gained while growing up and playing keyboards in teenage bands in Norwich (where he was born Bruce Fielder in 1992). He discovered his love of engineering and producing while messing about in a makeshift studio he built with a friend. His first chance to show off his playful sensibility was with his 2015 debut, “Easy Love”, on which he memorably repurposed the squeaky voice of the young Michael Jackson from the Jackson 5’s “ABC” into a piece of shiny dance pop. A No. 1 single, it sent Sigala up the ranks of festival DJs and Las Vegas club headliners. On later hits like 2016’s “Ain’t Giving Up” with Craig David and 2017’s “Came Here for Love” with Ella Eyre—both of which featured on his 2018 debut album, Brighter Days—Sigala reached further heights of pleasure and positivity by combining an eminently modern and tropical feel with old-school elements of disco and ‘90s house. A collaboration with The X Factor winner James Arthur, Sigala’s 2020 single “Lasting Lover” saw him build something fun and unique with the help of another borrowed hook: MGMT’s “Time to Pretend”. - Apple Music

Rita Ora

On early singles like “Hot Right Now” with DJ Fresh and her own 2012 smash “How We Do (Party)”, Rita Ora exudes the headstrong confidence and swagger of an artist who knows exactly what she’s about. She also knows what she can do with a voice that fits just as well with lovelorn ballads as it does with full tilt party-starters. That combination of positivity and versatility has helped make Ora—born Rita Sahatçiu in Prishtina in the former Yugoslavia, in 1990—one of the most successful British female solo artists ever. And even though her troubles with her first record label led to a long delay for the follow-up to her 2012 debut Ora, she filled the gap with feature appearances on tracks by Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX and Avicii, along with a stream of UK Top 10 singles such as the dreamy “Anywhere” and “For You”, a duet with Liam Payne for the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Freed. (Her role in the steamy screen franchise as Christian Grey’s sister gave her another chance to show off her glamorous side.) In 2018, Ora released Phoenix, an apt title given her determination to survive any storm and come out sounding as fierce and forthright as ever. - Apple Music

Biography

As R&B entered a renaissance with young, adventurous artists in the 2010s, Maryland-bred singer/songwriter Brent Faiyaz emerged as one of its standard-bearers with his honest lyrics, social media-ready one-liners, and soothing voice. Born Christopher Brent Wood in 1995, he left his Maryland hometown for Charlotte, North Carolina after high school before jetting to L.A. to pursue his musical dreams. There, he seemed to pop up virtually out of nowhere. He self-released music online before singing the silky, gold digger-dismissing chorus for 2016's "Crew," the ubiquitous hit by Goldlink and Shy Glizzy. He also cofounded R&B trio Sonder the same year with Dpat and Atu, a pair of producers who created spacey, atmospheric soundbeds for Faiyaz's musings on the group's moody EP, Into. As he settled into 2017, Faiyaz leaned further into the layered, vulnerable songwriting that powers Sonder's sound and also drives his solo projects. On his debut LP, Sonder's Son, he tells childhood stories over dreamy beats and narrates the coming-of-age growth that followed his move to the West Coast. And by his follow-up 2018 EP, Lost, he's fully preoccupied with his station in life, channeling his fear of being a young Black man in America ("Why'z It So Hard") and the isolation of his success ("Trust"). He delivers sincere, punchy penmanship wrapped in gorgeous melodies and backs it with versatile production—and that's no different on 2020's F**k the World, which swerves between giving in to the fast-paced, hedonistic Hollywood lifestyle and struggling to find meaning in the midst of it. And therein lies the appeal of the R&B Faiyaz is shaping, breathing warmth into the contemporary experience. - Apple Music

Ed Sheeran is now the tenth act to score at least 10 UK number one singles. All of the acts that have 10 or more UK number one singles are:

Elvis Presley (21 number ones)

The Beatles (17 number ones)

Cliff Richard (14 number ones)

Westlife (14 number ones)

Madonna (13 number ones)

The Shadows (12 number ones)

Take That (12 number ones)

Calvin Harris (10 number ones)

Drake (10 number ones)

Ed Sheeran (10 number ones)

It's my first listen of Bad Habits and I'm enjoying it, it's quite different to his other material really and his vocals are on fire :cheer:
Of the singles on his last two albums, I only particularly liked two of them (Cross Me and, hehe, Perfect) so for me this might end up being one of his best 3 since 2015
Imagine if Ed is actually a lurker on here though, he'd probably feel quite downtrodden by a lot of the stuff that gets said!

He could have been here since before he was even famous

I'm the same except replacing 'Perfect' with 'Castle On The Hill', those are the only 2 I've liked since x (and now this).

'Afterglow' was OK but I genuinely can't recall how it even goes, despite hearing it a fair few times.

Ed’s charting songs this week:

#1 Bad Habits (NEW)

#83 Perfect (+13)

#98 Shape Of You (RE)

Drake definitely does not have 10 #1s  think you have confused him with Eminem.

Congrats to Ed for joining this list, him being the first act on the list to have debuted during the 2010s (and only the second, after Calvin Harris, to have debuted after the turn of the millennium, although Eminem's first #1 was in 2000 as well).

'Bad Habits' is obviously nothing original or mindblowing but for what it is I think it's pretty good, his best lead single since at least 'Sing' for me (unless you count 'Castle On The Hill' as being a joint lead single).

Well done Ed! First time in years that I've bought 4 versions of a chart single. The 2 webstore download exclusives, the signed CD and the digitally animated CD.

BTW can anyone explain to me how that digitally animated CD works? I'm not into instagram and all I know is that it's activated through that somehow.

9 new entries *.* Even if I don't love any of them, I think Tones & I is my favourite though, glad she's managed to shake off the one-hit wonder status off!

Glad Ed managed to ge to the top spot, can't say I'm a massive fan (it reminds me a bit of Alec Benjamin bizarrely!) but I'll take it over Olivia - I have to say I find her public humiliation of her boyfriend... a little uncomfortable? I know she's not the only one doing it but for some reason she stands out to me. Happy to see Ed depose her anyway!

Why what’s she done?

I just mean with the songs she's released! I know most people wouldn't bat an eyelid but it gets to me that the sogs she's releasing seem to have the purpose of making his life miserable.
This is assuming it is actually based on an actual ex-boyfriend/true story (and I think it's perfectly viable to vent your frustration if you've been wronged)
Although "Deja Vu" which musically is her best single could be argued is a bit stalkerish. As for wronged she was dumped which as sad is it, is completely valid as guess he just not into her anymore. I'm not sure if publicly releasing song after song about being dumped is normal. If its fictional then it's ok.
