AATW was certainly a very bad label for Dannii, as they had no idea how to promote or market her. In general, that label has always been such a weird one considering how they were mostly a dance label but also signed Atomic Kitten's Liz (and then not releasing anything after her debut song hit the top 5...).

At the same time, like tommie said, I don't think there were any other real options for her at that time, otherwise I am sure she would have signed to a bigger label. I am at least glad we got some great songs during her AATW time.

Ya it's fair enough that she was limited with her choice of label, in terms of Dannii neon nights was a big success but that label may have felt different with how it performed on the back of a few big hits.
I do think that "Love Fight" was a missed opportunity & if it followed 'YWFAM' in the early months of 2005, instead of waiting a year to release the rather lack-lustre 'Perfection', then this could have easily been another top 10 hit. Although not sure when these songs were recorded, so just going on instinct. Instead of launching a Greatest Hits in 2006, she should have brought out 'Club Disco' in 2005 with a tweaked tracklisting & a couple of more singles.

This is what the era could have looked like =

OCT '04 "You Won't Forget About Me"
MAR '05 "Love Fight"
JUNE '05 "I Can't Sleep At Night"
*CLUB DISCO - ALBUM RELEASE*
SEPT '05 "Feel Like I Do" or "Perfection"

JUNE '06 "So Under Pressure" [Lead single for 'The Hits']

This could have really worked and seeing it laid out it would have much a lot of sense.

To be fair, how many labels were interested in her realistically?

Sure I Begin To Wonder was a big hit and she had a couple of top tens, but ultimately, Neon Nights did probably underperform. If the higher-ups at Warner wanted to keep her they would've just transferred her London contract to another sub-label.

I think to be fair she was in a relatively strong position after Neon Nights. OK, the album wasn't a blockbuster smash but it did decently and she'd just got a solid run of hit singles under her belt and gathered momentum/respect/elevated profile in her own right, I'm pretty sure a few labels would have seen that as potential to work with and build upon.

In an alternate universe I'd love to see what would've happened had we got a follow-up to Neon Nights and to see how it panned out.

Ya I'd have liked that to ser how the follow up would have went and how the follow up album would have sold but if love fight and I cant sllet at night were the first 2 singles I think the follow up could have done ok.

I'm just not so sure about that. I don't think she choose AATW because she was falling over with offers from various labels - they were simply the biggest label that came with the best offer (working and releasing single-by-single basis essentially). It wouldn't surprise me if she would've bolted if You Won't Forget About Me or Perfection had been bigger hits to another label.

By all accounts I think London expected Neon Nights to sell much more than 100k ultimately - you can argue that it was unrealistic considering the sales for Get Into You and Girl, but on the other hand with two big singles you'd think it would have a longer chart stay. They ended up shelving another single and then not bothering to transfer her to another label under the Warner umbrella indicates to me they just weren't interested.

When you say shelving another single do you mean there was another neon nights single planned ?

There was another single planned - "It Won't Work Out", as it had a single edit mix made for it.

Do you think there is any chance in the future of Dannii doing a Louise and record a new album? Louise releasing a new album was highly unexpected so I don't think it's completely impossible for Dannii.

Creep was also rumoured and i think remixed.

Problem was IWWO single mix and DWLTG were not on the album and wouldnt have pushed album sales

further. I do think a 4th single was needed but only if on the standard album.

Mystified / Creep maybe could have worked !!!

We did get the ross callum mix of IWWO on unleashed and it is a great vocal from Dannii.

I don't think her heart is in it anymore. She's got more money than she knows what to do with after being all the judges on all sorts of talent shows.

But then again, Kylie can get her to sign over to BMG. :heehee:

Financially she is prob in a great position but I'd say there is still a part of her with passion for music so ud never know, on the flip side she might be like I dont need the negative press attention if it flopped. I'd say though she has enough of a fanbase to get her a top 20 album in the current sales climate especially if she went the multi format route and signed copies.

While I'd love for Dannii to release another album, I just don't think she thinks it's worth the hassle - plus, would she really go on tour like Louise actually has done on the back of her album? I doubt it. It would interfere with her other work on things that actually does bring in money.

Plus, I think she enjoys the fact she's doing things where she's not being directly compared to Kylie.

They are fair points, with how her career is now there is mo putting her against kylie which is good for them both. With dannii though I've add always kinda picked up that she would still like to keep her toes in her music career in some shape or form.
Her updated version of All I Wanna Do would suggest she hasn't completely given up on her music career.

I loved it at the time - such a big missed opportunity, it hasn’t aged well but was perfect back then.

So many missed opportunities with songs like I Can’t Sleep At Night etc., over the years too :drama:
