Vanilla probably would've gone to number one in the US, but when who wants to deal with the capitalist US market?

They would, and frankly should, have been bigger than the Spice Girls! True icons

B*Witched had a hit with c’est la vie going to #9 and the follow up single making #67. The album went top 20 charting at #12 but there was nothing else that charted did they even bother following up with anything?

Talking about British girl group's success in the U.S. taking into account all girl groups across the decades these are the GG's with the most Top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100

Spice Girls - 4

Bananarama - 3

All Saints - 1

Bananarama really did ok in the USA considering British girl bands haven't really done anything over there. The first (and one of only two) British girl band to get a US #1 single. They also had a top 20 studio album with True Confessions and further 3 top 75 albums and 6 top 75 singles.
As well as Never Ever, All Saints also had I Know Where Its At chart at #36. It is curious how they never managed to follow up in the US - you'd think Pure Shores would have done something with it being on The Beach soundtrack, but no!

Right. I did hear I Know Where Its At a bit on the radio in the months before Never Ever came out. They also had a commercial for the album using IKWIA that ran on MTV quite a bit. Honestly, I think that commercial was my main familiarity with All Saints early on...and it's what got me to buy their album. I'm just not aware of even any attempt by them to follow up Never Ever in the market. Considering how huge a different cover of Lady Marmalade would be a few years later, I guess (in retrospect) their cover may have been a good one to try in the US. Honestly, that first album has several songs that seem like they'd fit on US radio.

spiceboy, I actually had no idea C'est La Vie by B*witched managed to get to #9. I literally never heard the song on the radio, though it was clearly playing somewhere. I actually first became aware of it because I was on a flight to London that spring, and that song was one of the things you could listen to if you bought headphones. I do remember them being featured pretty heavily on the Disney channel with some live performances and such. I guess that counted for something.

I tried listening to Little Mix but I find their music generic. They’re talented, but meh the music is not good. All Saints and Sugababes (MKS) remain to me the best (if we don’t count our Spices). Destiny’s Child and TLC are though way better than any British girlgroup.

It’s always been about the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child and TLC (in the US no one knows Girls Aloud or the other local bands).

Oh in overall quality, I'd say the UK girlbands are of much higher quality in general.

When it comes to USA girlbands, only DC, TLC and Supremes actually made an impact and had great music overall from what I remember?

Yes, but the impact they had was huge, not just in terms of sales.

I disagree I think British girl bands are way superior to American ones. I love TLC so they are different but the likes of Destiny's Child and Pussycat Dolls and even the Supremes were basically just Beyonce / Nicole / Diana and the backing singers... even in Destiny's Child where the others sang it was basically Beyonce and co. That's not a girl band to me and I say this as a big Supremes fan and someone who likes quite a few Destiny's Child songs.

I also think the song quality from Sugababes, Girls Aloud, All Saints and of course Spice Girls is better than most US girlbands songs.

The Sugababes deserve better.

I think Sugababes would have a better legacy had they:

1) Not had so many line up changes... they just about got away with 3 line ups (partly because most people associated M/K/H as the main line up so it was only one change then), but by the time they got to the 4th line up it was ridiculous, then back to the first line up... they then fit the impression of being "bitches" as they were lablelled since they can't work together.

2) They had built up a proper touring reputation. They were never really a big touring act.

PREACH!!!! It's just Cowell pap pop. Super generic, made for their fans to stream ooover and ooover, and that's it.

The Sugababes deserve better.

This.

Not to be a bitch but Little Mix's wax works are MILES better than the Spices. Like, they are basically pretty faithful replicas.Plus, even though a member had already gone, they still made it with Jesy included! Girl Power move!!

Good for them :cheer:

Tf?? They look like actual dolls in real life due to all the botox, fillers and surgery, plus aiebrushed instagram shots. Like ... that's not a good thing. Give me the REAL Spice Girls any day.

Just FYI, the waxworks are a replica of their video Bounce Back where they play dolls, so if anything that is why. Now lets leave the misogyny behind shall we? It is 2021 and it is sad to see this kind of comments everytime we debate/discuss a girlband you dont like. Boring.

Little Mix are great vocally. It’s impossible to state the opposite. And I love Jade. She’s cool and I hope she goes solo soon. Personally I don’t enjoy their music, it seems too copy-paste compared to what the Spice Girls or other girlbands have done. Kudos to them though for giving credits to the OG Goddesses.

Absolutely! I do like LM and most of their songs a lot, but music wise (for me) they don't come anywhere near SG, GA, Sugababes. However, performance wise they are MILES ahead of all the afore mentioned groups. Vocal wise I'd argue they are on the same level as Sugababes 1.0 (with a slight preference for Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan's harmonies).

The video isn't working for me
