Blur’s first loss of two and of course subject of the media frenzy in the “Battle Of Britpop””

Blur’s only track and of course subject of the media frenzy in the “Battle Of Britpop””

Surely not their only track? Beetlebum also got to number 1.

Finally another one of my votes out with 'D'You Know What I Mean'! I agree with the popular opinion that 'Be Here Now' is a bit much in one sitting, a bloated album, but I do really like this song on its own. 'Jesus to a Child' is pretty mesmerising, has definitely grown on me over time since I first heard it.

I like Blur but I'm team 'Roll With It', sorry :kink:

D'oh I forgot about that one for some reason! :(

World In Motion definitely ranked higher in my votes than if this had been run 6 months earlier, however I'd have picked it as a nailed on 30 pointer had it been run 6 weeks earlier!

Country House has a charm and I prefer it to some of their other well known songs (I still despair at the results of the Blur Best Of survivor) but it's not something I really choose to listen to. D'You Know What I Mean on the other hand is complete dross.

Oh thought everybody hated

Country House and D’you know what I Mean 😅

They aren’t either bands best work but comparatively they are better than the majority of 90s number 1s.

Jesus To A Child ❤️ Such an amazing song great it reached number one!
I desperately wanted to like D'You Know What I Mean? at the time and thought I did for a little while, but (unlike Stand By Me) it's really not great, any potential it had is weighed down by all the bluster. Country House remains a fun song but I'm glad Beetlebum is higher.
I'd rather listen to D'You Know What I Mean? than Wonderwall

I adore Jesus To A Child! Sorry to see it out but glad it made the Top 100. Personally I think Older is George Michael's best album, so much beautiful stuff on there.

D'You Know What I Mean isn't one of the greatest by Oasis standards and not one of my favourites from Be Here Now hence it not getting any votes from me but I do quite like it, I think the 2016 re-edit improves the track a lot tbh by trimming some of the intro and making it sound a bit less overblown. Stand By Me probably would have got votes from me if it had made the top.... if only Don't Go Away had been released as a UK single!

Country House is ok but Beetlebum is definitely the better of the two chart toppers for Blur.

Edited by Dot Branning

Innuendo is great, very under-rated (including by me at the time) - I think the problem was it burst into the charts and then dropped and had no time to build, and being a grower it needed that build-up time. A movie slot would be great!

Oasis is OK, Blur is much better than people think, I've heard it 2 or 3 times this week on radio and it still sounds good. George Michael's record is both heart-breaking and moving, but I can see why the other chart-topper from the album gets all the oldies play - that's more uplifting.

Bluebells is really an 80's chart-topper, but it is great fun. Bananarama song, plus boyfriend from The Bluebells, and their original version produced by 70's Glam Rocker/pop hit songwriter/producer Barry Blue. neither Bazza nor Nana's have managed a UK chart-topper other than this, but both came close.

Six down for Take That with two left- first release post Robbie.

Goodbye is not the most memorable Spice single but is pleasant enough, Never Forget is a little lucky to be so high, but it's decent enough (though not a patch on Relight My Fire or the big one), and Livin' La Vida Loca still sounds great.
