I didn't really like Spark when I heard it first. It took ages to grow on me.

So here’s the rate winner and by a whopping 177 points! That’s the same difference as between Oasis at No 2 and The Chemical Brothers at No 25. Only 8 voters failed to give it points, 15 of us put it in our top 10 and two voters giving it maximum points crowning “Frozen” as officially Buzzjack’s favourite chart topper of the 90s!

great result for Don't look back in Anger, excellent song, Oasis at their best

I think the show got overshadowed by Wonderwall but it's a much much better song

That's an insane margin, but fully deserved winner. It's a brilliant beautiful song and is easily my favourite of hers.

Thanks for running Gezza, have enjoyed following.

As an aside, I was right in my thinking that DLBIA was likely to the song I'd not voted for - I go through phases with it as I do now find it's hugely overplayed, I find both Gallagher's utterly off-putting and think they're such an overrated band.

  • Author
And that's that- my thanks as always to all who voted and contributed to the thread! It's been a 90s Bacardi Breezer...

WD Madonna - Frozen may not be my favourite song of hers but can't argue with that winning margin.

As for Don't Look Back In Anger, I go through phases with it as well but it's an anthem of a generation in as literal a sense as I can, ahem, imagine :) so I'm delighted it's come as high as runner-up spot.

Thanks for running this Gezza and keeping the surprise element going!

Not much doubt about that then!

Thanks so much for this Gezza - I think I enjoyed it even more than the 2010s version due to the nostalgia element.

I’ve always loved Don’t Look Back In Anger but as an adult it’s become even more special to me, partly because it’s my favourite song to sing myself - it sits just right in my voice.

Frozen is just so mesmerising and gorgeous, and has something in common with one of my favourite Number 1s from the following decade, namely William Orbit’s production!

wow at the lead the Frozen got, undeniable winner!

Frozen is an incredible song and one of the many re-inventions in Madonna's career after a shaky mis-90s

Like most of Madonna's best songs it's a co-write with Patrick Leonard but the production from William Orbit is key to the song too

Thanks Gezza, fab rundown and fab organising! :yahoo:

Top 2: I used to love Oasis' nthem and them I got a bit OD'd on the numerous reruns and well-intentioned boosts and endless media presence. It is a classic, no doubt. I'd just rather hear Whatever, Wonderwall, and some of the recent solo singles from both Gallaghers.

Madonna, not even close was it :o Frozen has grown with time, I feel. It wasn't a "hey thats a classic new Madonna track" when Frozen came out, it was obviously back on form Madonna but I think it was Ray Of Light that got people noticing. Frozen sounds better 23 years later than it did at the time - and it sounded great at the time.

Re 1998 chart-toppers good to see some overlapping there... :)

Tori Amos Spark, I did chart it, but I think the quick in and out stopped it getting enough play to make a greater impression

My 29 pointer winning and 27 pointer second, very happy with that  I did think 'Frozen' had the power to cross over with a lot of tastes here, so thought it was a solid winner guess, but didn't quite anticipate that much of a lead, wow :o utterly mesmerising song and video - the William Orbit production is so dreamy and Madge is on a vocal high post-Evita training.

Thanks for all your hard work Gezza!

I'm not a Madonna fan but I still gave Frozen 28 points. That shows what a good song it is. It was the highest placed 90s number 1 in the all-time poll I ran in 2019 (finishing in 2nd place) so I'm not surprised to see it come out on top here.

Thanks Gezza for doing this.

Oh wow, that landslide!! I do love it, but didn't vote for it partly through competition and partly cos it's only recently I've acquired a real liking for it unlike some others, but at least I know it didn't need it! Fantastic song anyway that still sounds very fresh today.

Big fan of Don't Look Back Anger obviously, their biggest anthem and still sounds incredible. Glad one of my top 3 got this high.

Thanks for this, was very enjoyable and well presented, I'd love an 80s one if you're ever planning a follow-up x

1998 really was such a gem of a year for all music tastes, I’m not surprised to see four No.1s from that year in the top ten.

Frozen is a wonderful song, I’d have given it a lot of points too, although I also love Don’t Look Back In Anger.

Congratulations to Madonna. Queen of pop and Queen of Buzzjack.

And here are the highlights of Gezza's wonderful countdown.

Well, can't argue with that winner given the margin!

Fantastic top 2 :D

Thanks so much for this Gezza, look forward to an 00s and a 80s version :P
