I was in no way saying Jesy should be burned at the stake or people should feel guilty for looking forward to her music! I’ll be sure to give it a listen as well- the only thing truly upsetting me about Jesy is her blocking people who raise certain issues she could address- it’s disheartening she’s so against educating herself

I know this is a maybe useless comparison but while we're on the subject of ex-girl group members being problematic at least Camila went to classes to actually educate herself and acknowledged her racism (obviously much worse than Jesy's situation but still). If someone wants to educate themselves they'll do it. There's no excuse for Jesy blocking people and refusing to admit she's made mistakes.

the issue now isn't Jesy not knowing any better it's that she simply does not want to, she knows what the issue is - there is no way she has no idea, and she simply removes anyone from her vicinity because they go against her idea of her own image (which has been caused by years and years of conditioning and abuse but it's still no excuse)

 

the team around her, including her friends, are toxic to her growth - she might think they aren't because they've helped her but they're not letting her social awareness grow and it's gonna hurt her in the long run.

 

i'm sad because i was such a Jesy stan, she was my fav but i can't excuse this behaviour at all - until she actively starts to address things and learn i can't stan her, i'll checkout the song maybe but i won't be supporting her.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make her drink! I think it’s a bit of a sweeping statement to suggest that her entire team and friendship group are toxic for ‘allowing’ this behaviour. The onus is completely on Jesy and we’re not privy to conversations she’s had with her friends so it’s an odd statement to make.

 

The label could intervene but who knows, maybe they’ve tried already?

I mean it's not unheard of for girl group members going solo to have a feature.. Camila was flopping until she released Havana and even Beyoncé had a feature on her debut.

Mel B & Mel C first ventures into solo stardom were with features too, no? Melanie B feat. Missy Elliott and then Mel C had 'When You're Gone' with Bryan Adams (and her most successful single as a soloist featured someone else - 3 songs later.

 

The only time it bothers me (more than it should tbh) is, unless it's for a collaborations project (like Ed) then an artist continuously using features just to get the hits they need (ala Anne-Marie). Even worse having heard her album and there being some genuinely good/decent solo singles choices on there!

Camila was hardly flopping... 'I know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Bad Things' were quite big! 'Crying in the Club' wasn't the huge hit it was meant to be, sure, but 'Havana' is such an obvious hit and I reckon if it'd been solo it would have been just as big.

Also Emma’s (what I am with Tin Tin Out) and Victoria’s (out of your mind with true steppers and Dane Bowers) were with features. Geri was the only one not to. Cheryl Cole with Will-I-Am on Heartbreaker, Amelle with Tinchy Stryder, Kelly Rolland with Nelly… the list goes on.

Video looks good. Can barely hear the song but it didn’t sound like anything groundbreaking but obviously need to here it much more clearer before full judgments.
