The clouds are rolling in because I'm gone again

11. Unfaithful | 8.461 Highest Scores: 11: (JSG, Bjotk, JackTheeStallion), 10: (Nina West, PAJ, Dobbo, Mack), Lowest Scores: 3: (blacksquare)

Just outside the top 10 at #11 is Rihanna's first ever ballad - Unfaithful, released in May 2006 as the 2nd single from her 2nd studio album A Girl Like Me, & also makes this the last from that era to feature here. It was written by Shaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith with the song's producers Stargate. The song was inspired by the music of American rock band Evanescence & it's orginal title was "Murderer" & lyrically speaks about a woman who regrets cheating on her partner. During the recording of her 2nd album, Rihanna wanted to incorporate different types of sounds that her debut didn't have & wanted to work with Ne-Yo since she heard "Let Me Love You" by Mario, which Ne-Yo wrote. Upon release it recieved mixed to positive reviews from critics, but became a commercial success by topping the charts in Canada & Switzerland, as well as reaching top 10 peaks in 17 other countries , including the UK & USA where it became her 3rd top 10 hits in both countries. Since it's release the song has become a staple of her live performances.

This was ranked in the top 10 for the majority of the rate, but fell short by just 2 points at the last minute. The R&B scene iss full of men trying to atone for their indiscretions, but every now and then, the tables turn & we get to hear from the women's perspective & twisting its entire dynamic on its head. Rihanna is apologetic but is also content to continue with her cheating ways & she does a brilliant job with the vocals of the song. Her high pitches and little voice cracks add the much needed dramatic effects to the song as she spills out over orchestral strings and piano, which gives the gloomy message a beautiful sheen. This showed a new & bittersweet side to Rihanna that we've never seen before & already showing amazing artistic depth at such an early stage of her career. A firm highlight for sure.

Here's a reminder of what's left from each era, before the top 10 countdown

Music Of The Sun = 2/2
A Girl Like Me = 4/4
Good Girl Gone Bad = 3/8
Rated R = 6/6
Loud = 2/6
Talk That Talk = 2/6
Unapologetic = 1/7
Anti = 1/4

Collaborations/Other = 1/23

As you can see we've lost another 2 Rihanna album cycles, as both 'A Girl Like Me' & 'Rated R' are out of the running. 'Good Girl Gone Bad' has the most left with 3, followed swiftly behind with 2 are 'Loud & 'Talk That Talk', while 'Unapologetic' & 'Anti' each only have 1 left respectively.

Unfaithful sounds much better live now imo. Her voice has grown so a lot since 2006.

All 3 of my 11s in the top 10 *.*

oh poor Unfaithful at #11,

bit disappointed with that top 10...

Kiss It Better, Disturbia and esoecially too Good are not top 10 material

Stay, Unfaithful and Rehab are all top 5 for me

Only Girl (In The World)

Where Have You Been

Kiss It Better

Take Care (ft Drake)

These four are to high for me, maybe lower top 20 but not top 10.

I’ve loved and I’ve lost

10. Take Care (ft Drake) | 8.538 Highest Scores: 11: (Dobbo, HausofWillow), 10: (jakewild, Tawdry Hepburn, Mack, Chapman, Nick F1, Adelita, Cremey, blacksquare, JackTheeStallion), Lowest Scores: 1: (JSG)

Kicking off the top 10 is the last non-album collaboration to feature here - Take Care, the title track from Drake's 2nd studio album of the same name & features guest vocals by Rihanna. Released in February 2012 as the album's 5th single & heavily samples Jamie xx's remix of Gil Scott-Heron's version of "I'll Take Care of You". The track was written by Drake, Noah Shebib, Anthony Palman and James Smith, better known as Jamie xx. Production of the song was handled by Jamie xx and Shebib under his production name Noah "40" Shebib. Upon release the song received universal acclaim from music critics & became a commercial success by peaking at #7 on the US Billboard charts, while also reaching the top ten in Australia, Denmark, New Zealand, and the UK, which marked Drake's first top 10 hit as a solo artist there & second overall following his other Rihanna collaboration "What's My Name".

I didn't expect this to finish in the top 10 here & for the majority of this rate it was in the top 15, but at the last minute it managed to scrape the top 10, making this a dark horse of this rate. This is a oretty great track with its mix of Drake's hip-hop rap verses & Rihanna's seductive vocals set against a chilled out tempo, pounding bass drums & sparse piano. The production is quite diverse with the back beat that's quite similar to dance/trance music, but yet at the same time compilments the R&B sounds of both artists vocals. Another great collaboration by Drake & Rihanna as these 2 always makes great music together & this is no exception.

I've been everywhere, man, looking for someone

9. Where Have You Been | 8.576 Highest Scores: 11: (Cameron, kath), 10: (Jord, George.keh, Nick F1, JSG), Lowest Scores: 4: (HausofWillow)

At the #9 spot is Where Have You Been, released in May 2012 as the 5th & final single from Rihanna's 6th studio album Talk That Talk. The song was written by Ester Dean, Geoff Mack, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Henry "Cirkut" Walter, and Calvin Harris, with production handled by the latter three. The lyrics interpolate Geoff Mack's 1959 song "I've Been Everywhere" and speak of a woman who is searching for a partner who will sexually please her. Upon release the song garnered positive reviews & peformed well on the worldwide charts. In the USA it reached a #5 peak, marking this as her 22nd top 10 hit on that chart. It also topped the charts in Brazil & Mexico, as well as attaining top 5 peaks in the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Israel, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, while peaking in the top ten of charts in 20 countries worldwide including Australia, Belgium and Norway. The track was also nominated for a 2013 Grammy award for 'Best Pop Solo Performance'.

This is a fairly blatant attempt to recapture the magic of 'We Found Love', seeing as both tracks are Calvin Harris prodiuctions, but thiis is a really fiun bop & a fantastic follow on from that iconic smash hit. The song begins humbly with Rihanna's seductive vocals set alongside some electronic pulses beofre the trance beats picks up & then her layered vocals charges into that glorious EDM bass drop that soon becomes it's centrepiece. Okay the dup-step sound became very tiresome at the time, due to it being everywhere, but this is definiately one of the better moments that came from that era. However the repetitive lyrics does get a tad tiresome at times, yet this is still a catchy club banger that Rihanna could turn out in her sleep.
Gigantic bop, pride anthem and party starter (along with Pound the Alarm from that time). Amazing music video I was obsessed :wub:
WHYB is prob a bit too high but it does remind me of a holiday in Miami !
