He released singles off it and it was pretty much to get him some more no.1s without having to put his usual effort into an album.

I mean, if anything that's kind of proving the point that it was a side project? x

If people want to consider it to be a 'studio album' because of whatever objective criteria they have for what constitutes one (Wikipedia editors seem to agree x) then whatever but I think it's pretty obvious that 'No.6 Collaborations Project', whatever you want to call it, is not part of the same chronology as the other albums. The fact that he's specifically referring to this as his 4th album rather than his 5th just confirms that. I'd consider it as being analogous to something like Lady Gaga's 'Cheek To Cheek' (which also had singles therefore it was definitely the follow-up to 'ARTPOP' amirite!)

The way I see side projects is when an artist works with another band or collaborated with another artist for an entire record. Nothing really distinguished that tracks on his ‘side project’ from Shape Of You or Bad Habits.

But Ed can do no wrong in your eyes so I should probably stop now.

The thing that distinguishes it from the other albums is literally in the title hen x

But ok.

Stop being so patronising. It’s not like I’m the only person holding this opinion which, no, doesn’t make me correct necessarily but it also doesn’t call for you to be so condescending either.

And besides, the title is what it is to go with the ‘side project’ schtick. It’s still an album.

‘Visiting Hours’ has been added to the Radio 2 playlist. Does this make it a second single officially?

I don’t get the annoyance at Ed Sheeran in general from the contents of the thread here (not by all obviously) but I guess it happens to all hugely successful artists in any era. I get some people will think his songs lyrically are not that deep and some just don’t like his music it’s opinions after all that make life but who cares if he gets loads of number ones. Artists that say they don’t want more people to hear and enjoy their music are liars.

Ed‘s gonna release a „repackaged“ version of = next year. He said he plans to put out the song that was supposed to be the lead single next summer (described it as a big hit). Possibly gonna include the unreleased songs "Penguins" and "One Life" too.

Strange to announce the repackage before the album is actually released.

I thought ‘Shivers’ was supposed to be the lead single.

We also know that Subtract will be released next year or 2023. He‘s not too good at keeping secrets.

There was another song that was originally meant to be the lead single but he took it off the album because it was too different from the other songs thematically.

It’s going to be an acoustic album which was supposed to be released before Equals. I wonder if ‘Afterglow’ was a bit of a test to see how an acoustic song would do but after the muted response he decided to go back to the pop sound with Equals.

Can‘t wait to hear Be Right Now! Love In Slow Motion (possibly First Times?) sounds like the Perfect/TOL of this album

‘The Joker and the Queen’ for Christmas number one please!

Not hugely impressed by ‘Overpass Grafetti’ on first listen!

Enjoying Overpass Grafetti so far. That and Visiting Hours are the ones of the four I’ve heard I’m liking. Might give this album a listen over the weekend.
What an album, a massive surprise from start to finish. Pop perfection.
