September 2, 20214 yr ABBA Gold still sells physicals copies when every citizen of the country must already own at least one! I wouldn't get too hung up about 200k or any particular number but i'm certain it will blow every other release this year bar Ed Sheeran out of the water in its first week. As has already been mentioned its the cross-sectional appeal that benefits them, look at the success of the Mamma Mia films.
September 2, 20214 yr I would be fairly comfortable saying the chances of ABBA getting a #1 single in 2021 are pretty close to zero but there is literally no precedent for what kind of sales they'd be able to bring in for an entire new album - wouldn't even want to take a guess to be honest. I guess the closest parallel we've had in recent years is maybe Black Sabbath's 2013 comeback album? But they were never as dominant in the charts as ABBA and that was still only an 18 year gap between albums, less than half of the wait for a new ABBA album.
September 2, 20214 yr A band so universally known coming back with new material after such a long time is truly unprecedented. The closest thing I can think of off the top of my head is the Beatles releasing those two 'new singles' in 1995 but even that was just some old demos remastered.
September 2, 20214 yr I wonder if If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know) will finally be top 40 today. :teresa: I'm predicting Abba's album will sell less than 50k in the UK.
September 3, 20214 yr I hope abba do well, I think the songs are dated but yet good and I'd live to see them do really well.
September 3, 20214 yr My first time visiting this site in many years. just wanted to say I love 'Bad Habits' and hope it stays at #1 for a very long time!
September 3, 20214 yr My first time visiting this site in many years. just wanted to say I love 'Bad Habits' and hope it stays at #1 for a very long time! It's been like 10 weeks.. How much longer do you want
September 3, 20214 yr I'm a huge ABBA Fan. I've know idea, how well, the 2 New 'Singles' will do, in this 'Streaming' Age. However, their Album will do very well. It has more than the 5,610,000 UK Sales, (to August 2021), that The OCC give it. It got its 19th UK B.P.I. Platinum Award, (5,700,000), on Monday 10th August 2020. It has sold over 100,000 more, since then. It really has over 5,800,000 UK Sales. Regarding how well the 'Voyage' Album will do. On Monday October 1st 2012, it was announced, (by The OCC), that 'ABBA Gold' was the UK's Biggest Selling CD. It had reached 4 Million UK CD Sales, by then. That was almost 9 Years ago. I'm just surprised that ABBA are Releasing the 'Voyage' Album, just 1 Week after Ed Sheeran's New one. His Album will still have massive Sales, in Week 2. Edited September 3, 20214 yr by zeus555
September 3, 20214 yr I'm just surprised that ABBA are Releasing the 'Voyage' Album, just 1 Week after Ed Sheeran's New one. His Album will still have massive Sales, in Week 2. This might cost them getting number one but I don’t think it will hurt the sales, which I imagine the label care more about. If people are at HMV for Ed’s album, it might bring more casual listeners to pick up ABBA’s at the same time. Going to be a good Q4 for physical sales after the last few years. Outside of the UK it will have a lot greater chance to get the top spot so will no doubt get a number one album in many other territories.
September 3, 20214 yr I've got a feeling Abba will knock Ed off #1 but he'll return there the following week, then both albums will hog the top two for a while (barring a surprise release from Adele)
September 3, 20214 yr According to @/Adeledailynet on Twitter, Adele is „scheduled" to release her fourth album on November 5.
September 3, 20214 yr It's been like 10 weeks.. How much longer do you want  Not very welcoming to a member whose been off the site for years.
September 3, 20214 yr According to @/Adeledailynet on Twitter, Adele is „scheduled" to release her fourth album on November 5. Releasing against ABBA seems optimistic if she wants another No 1 album.
September 3, 20214 yr Adele would wipe the floor with any other artist on first week sales, literally no one could or would be a threat.
September 3, 20214 yr My first time visiting this site in many years. just wanted to say I love 'Bad Habits' and hope it stays at #1 for a very long time! Thankfully for the rest of his he goes on ACR in a few weeks, so we'll get a new No 1 by the end of September. The most concerning thing about that is it could be another Ed Sheeran song.
September 3, 20214 yr Releasing against ABBA seems optimistic if she wants another No 1 album. Bruh I'm sorry but if you think that literally anyone at all has a chance of beating Adele to #1 album you're delusional. ABBA won't do it, Ed won't do it, no-one will do it, Adele will be #1 and she will sell like 500k first week probably, there's no stopping it.
