Two big albums appear to be contesting for the #1 album chart position in a few weeks! The Script release their greatest hits album 'Tales From The Script: Greatest Hits', while Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga release their long awaited second album together 'Love For Sale' on the same day, October 1st. But which one will make it to the top spot? (if any)

The Script's last album 'Sunset & Full Moons' sold 31.9k first week in 2019, while Tony & Gaga sold 10.4k in 2014. (though Gaga's last solo album sold 52.9k last year). It's probably also worth noting that The Script's album doesn't seem to have had much TV/radio promo this time compared to their past studio releases.

There is an 'Outsider' released that week...by Roger Taylor!

In fairness he has only made the Top 20 Albums once before with a Solo release but surely in current climate will do this time!

As for next week that is looking a really low Sales week unless there is a surprise Release.

Next week will probably be Drake on terminally low sales.

I think the Script will beat Gaga/Tony Bennett.

Yes I also went for The Script given it is their first compilation Album and 5 out of 6 Studio Albums made it to the top.

I am slightly surprised by the really low Sales for Genesis compilation this week but I guess they have released a few compilations over the years!

Next week will probably be Drake on terminally low sales.

The Lathums probably have enough of a fanbase to get a low sales #1 like The Snuts did before.

(I'm still not convinced either of those bands exist outside of WhoOdyssey's imagination but still)

I think The Lathums are looking good for #1 next week, they have a similar fanbase to The Snuts who managed 20k.

Yeh The Lathums will have a lot of people who will buy multiple amounts and have a decent following for a new band!

Well, as I said in the Lady Gaga-thread - Tony Bennett has never been as popular in the UK as in the US and these sort of showbusiness jazzy tunes are also more popular across the Atlantic. I'd guess strong physical sales might make it go top five, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it stalls between #10-#15.

As for The Script - while I'm sure it will sell in the long run do they really have such a strong singles chart run that it would inspire people to go out and buy it? I'm sure the long-term prospects will be healthy, but I'm not sure if I see them going to number one.

So I naturally voted for Drake. *vomit smiley*

but Drake is doing very low figures now, on yesterday's Mids (for Wed) he was only on 5K
I'd love for it to be TonyGaga, but not holding my breath :(

"while Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga release their long awaited second album together" by who? As far as I'm aware Gaga's fans support these releases through gritted teeth.

The Specials have an album out - last one went to No 1 - so I expect that to do very well. Older fanbase that will buy on physical which are already selling well

I know the last Tony/Gaga release only sold about 10k, but I could see die-hard fans getting this to between 10-15k with multi buying. Wouldn't be shocked to see it as a low-sale #1...

The Script only have a handful of big hits, most (not all albums) seemed to have one big hit with a bunch of flops, so can't see much appetite for a hits collection from them. Do they have much of a die hard fanbase? The few big hits will, of course, ensure it has a steady Top 100 chart run due to streaming...

Tony/Gaga vs Drake for #1, I think (leaning slightly towards the former). Forget I said this when my prediction ages terribly! 😂

oh if the Specials have an album out then they could easily do it

can't really see the Gaga fans buying this when they totally passed on Joanne :o

I'm not sure I'd describe Tony & Gags second jazz album as "long awaited".
