I still personally can't comprehend that people think this is one of their best songs or anywhere near the level of Sweet Melody.

For me 'No' is not even in the Top 40 of my favourite LM songs, it is a decent bop but nothing to shout out about. Cut You Off on the other hand :cheeseblock:

Really hope 'No' can recover somehow next year, it deserves to at least be a Top 20 hit.

I get the impression that all the new tracks on Between Us were more or less "this will do" type of songs rather than actively trying to scrounge up sure-fire hits since the album will basically sell itself either way. No point in wasting a lot of A&R resources to pay for a huge hit in the making when they're taking a break either way.

I think it’s more and more looking like this may be the case.

It’s also clear that they’re eager and ready to start working on their side projects, with Jades solo music, Leigh-Anne’s film and Perries clothing line. Which I think after 7 albums in ten years is fair enough!

Absolutely, they’ve given us some absolute quality over the last decade. Looking forward to seeing what the side

Rejects will be like. Well the clothing line isn’t my thing but best of luck to Perrie.

Agreed, the quality just isn’t there. I haven’t listened to it once since it’s release day and this is the only single by them where this has happened.

They should of released between us as the single if they were gonna take a break it's definitely the strongest of the songs and it's most fitting , No is nice just gets a bit boring fast
The way Buzzjack turns on a song if it isn't an instant hit haha

we can,t like no dirty flop, ayee :arrr:

Ha I was thinking the same thing

I love No, really hoping it does manage to somehow turn into a hit, it's looking less and less likely by the day though :(

Maybe the last hope for the new tracks is for Between Us to get a proper push in the new year?

I love all five of the new ones (LSL a bit less so), it'd be a shame for none of them to smash

To be fair, I’ve never been keen on No so I don’t fit that category. I championed Love Sweet Love when everyone was disappointed as I still think it’s a good single choice, just not brilliant.

This is so true!! I still like No, I think it’s actually a strong single.

My original comments about it were that it wasn't my favourite and it was just okay and that I hoped the song would grow on me.

I had hoped the video would elevate it, but it didn't.

It really is. Nobody said it was as good AS sweet Melody but I still think it's a strong offering and prefer it to their last few singles for sure. If it got the full support they sometimes do I'm sure it would have done at least as well as Kiss My (which it's easily better than).

Thank you!

I would rather they pushed Between Us tbf, especially as it will have a nice rise following Graham Norton, I think a Between Us performance would SLAY at the Brits too :cheeseblock:
I thought we all knew that how well songs do depends on so many factors and not necessarily how good it is. And how good it is is relative. At the end of the day, Sweet Melody did not do better than Holiday in the rest of the world. Yes it smashed in the UK, but that's about it. Holiday actually charted in more countries. So yeah, No's underperformance isn't because it's not good. It's a combination of many factors including oversaturation. Only the biggest artists can oversaturate and still have hit singles.
No remains a good song despite flopping. It's a solid 8.5 compared to SM being a 10. Cut You Off might have been a better choice for single tho especially with the Jesy controversy.

I think the bones of 'No' is a good song. It has a catchy melody and the lyrics are decent enough but the production is just really cheap and so is the video so it definitely does feel more of a 4th single from an album than launching a Greatest Hits.

It just needs beefier production and to sound more 'darker' and powerful.

I agree with all of this, but I also think it gets lost a bit on the greatest hits album. If it were on a proper album full of new songs I'm sure it would stand out, but when I've been listening to Between Us all the way through, the new songs just don't match up to all the smash hits in my opinion.

Well, as I said, I don't think they were going to waste a lot of resources into finding another Sweet Melody to launch this with as it's not necessary. The hits sell themselves basically so there's little point. I think the new tracks are ok, but none of them are big enough to become number one smashes, but that's ok. I'm sure to many people think Heartbreak Anthem is still the "current" single.
