Posted October 21, 20213 yr Another battle for the #1 album is upon us! Lana Del Rey is releasing 'Blue Banisters' tomorrow, while Biffy Clyro have 'The Myth of the Happily Ever After'. Both artists' two most recent album went to #1, but alas one of them will miss out this time! It's worth noting that Biffy's album is a collection of B-sides/unreleased material from their last album, so may not have the same pull/promotion as a whole new era - while Lana's release apparently has a vinyl delay and thus could seriously impact her sales! I've thrown Duran Duran & Elton John in there as well, just in case! Their last releases sold: Lana Del Rey - Chemtrails Over the Country Club (2021): 40,111 Biffy Clyro - A Celebration of Endings (2020): 26,161 (I suppose Coldplay could probably be added too?)

October 21, 20213 yr I voted Lana but actually wouldn’t rule Eton out, could do well on the back of Cold Heart.
October 21, 20213 yr If Lana's vinyls are delayed she sadly has no chance :/ is Biffy really a b-sides album? thought it was more like a sister-album, like folklore/evermore
October 21, 20213 yr I can really see Elton doing it, especially with this renewed commercial resurgence he's currently got going on.
October 21, 20213 yr It’s worth noting that Lana’s vinyl delay seems to only affect the HMV Red pressing, the other 3 pressings all have 22nd as the release date
October 21, 20213 yr is Biffy really a b-sides album? thought it was more like a sister-album, like folklore/evermore Yeah that was my understanding as well - I think they are songs that were recorded around the same time and they just had enough leftover material to make a second album. In any case it's quite likely it'll do less well than the previous album as that always seems to be the case with things like this. I didn't really consider Elton as a contender but I guess it's not totally impossible, my money would still be on it being between Lana and Coldplay though (quite possibly dependent on Lana's vinyl situation).
October 21, 20213 yr Yeah I wouldn't rule out Elton, he's been quite prolific this year with all his features and whatnot so there's definitely *some* hype around him at the moment. I also wouldn't rule out Coldplay getting a second week even with a big drop in sales. But I guess Lana has to be marginal favourite - even though I can't see her opening with much more than 30k this time around and Biffy a bit less.
October 21, 20213 yr Elton John's 'Wonderful Crazy Night' sold 16,947 in 2016; I reckon this album has the potential to hit 20k off the back of 'Cold Heart', the fact it's a collaborative album and the renewed interest in Elton pre-'Cold Heart'. I don't think it'll be quite enough to reach the top though, I think that will still go to Lana even if there is vinyl delays. I reckon it'll be relatively close between the three of them; Lana, Biffy and Elton. Duran Duran's last album sold 12,349 on first week and I think it'll do similar numbers again.
October 21, 20213 yr I don't think being a collaborative album is a good thing for sales though. See: Ed Sheeran. It's very possible that he might pull in better sales just because of the general 'hype' / goodwill around him at the moment but I think that would be in spite of it being a collab album, not because of it.

Perhaps not with pure sales but I thought it might help slightly with streams if various fanbases are checking out the respective songs. But yes it'll mainly be the renewed interest that I think could see an increase in sales.
October 21, 20213 yr I agree, but I don't see it getting particularly massive streams anyway ('Cold Heart' is doing great on streaming obviously but that won't count because of the top two tracks rule).
October 21, 20213 yr Was his last album in 2016 ‘Wonderful Crazy Night’ a studio album? Not sure if these thing effect sales these days but pretty sure Elton is on Graham Norton performing tomorrow evening!
October 22, 20213 yr The Myth of Happily Ever After is a proper album not a B-Sides album, and is being promoted as such - expect it to do very well amongst their massive fanbase - many of whom are of vinyl/cd buying age. Could see them getting the #1 - imagine Elton is more likely to beat them than Lana though.
October 22, 20213 yr Interesting start on iTunes #1 Elton John (Also #12) #3 Duran Duran #4 Biffy Clyro #5 Lana Del Rey Edited October 22, 20213 yr by ___∆___
