The star’s fifth studio album has 84,178 sales at the first midweek count, with 58,539 from physical, 16,081 from downloads and 9,558 from streams.

that's a relatively high amount of downloads when compared to physical sales.

Which also suggests that he might be missing quite a lot of physical sales from HMV.

Very surprised that Ed has started so slowly, I thought he would have easily cleared six figures after three days. I dare say he probably will be by week's end but as others have said it's a marked slow down from the last two albums.

There will certainly be some questions if the ABBA album hasn't at the very least cleared 110k sales in the first midweeks... :lol: (unless of course there are a bunch of pre-orders not yet accounted for again)

The ABBA store site (Universal in Daventry, not Middle Earth) is rubbish at getting orders out quickly. I ordered Just A Notion the moment it went in preorder 4 days before release and it still took them a week to deliver it. So, if they can't even deliver a simple single efficiently, I dread to think how they'll manage with dispatching albums they've had on order for 2 months.... (sarcasm level uncertain)

Not that I'm a guru or anything, but I had kind of predicted higher sales for ABBA than Ed. Probably because I see a lot of physicals being shipped for ABBA which count more than streams.

CD - 45,883

Vinyl - 8,390

Cassette - 4,266

 

 

Let's compare with Coldplay's Monday midweek physical sales from 18th October:

 

CD - 56,230

Vinyl - 11,273

Cassette - 5,978

= 73,481

and 5,466 downloads + 2,284 streams = 81,231 overall

 

 

The missing data from HMV on Friday must be quite significant!

 

 

By the way, Adele - Easy on Me has 54 CD sales. I'm guessing those are from Amazon.

Not surprised at all at Ed's underperformance.

 

"Bad Habits" first week numbers showed he didn't really have a huge built-in fanbase anymore. Yeah, the song eventually did well in the UK (as did "Shivers") because both songs were perfectly made for British radio + were heavily promoted but there was no real excitement. His WW numbers will probably be even more disappointing, considering how his first two singles had a lukewarm reception all around the world.

 

I can't understand people thinking Adele should be worried lol. I mean, her case was the complete opposite: her song had HUGE first day/week numbers, showing that UNLIKE ED she has a huge fanbase that's still faithful. Not only in the UK and specific European markets either, her song did well literally everywhere. There's obviously huge excitement for her, which is a contrast to what happened to Sheeran. I mean, obviously her debut week won't compare to "25" because the physical market has shrank a lot since then but no way she'll disappoint.

Sure we will accept those assumptions to suit our narratives.

So, Ed is looking for 25k in streams max, that's pretty underwhelming. He will still have nice sales though and the downloads are huge compared to some other acts. He is clearly an iTunes artist in a way.

Yeh the streams are very low considering the amount of songs he has still in the top 30, means unless there’s a lot of daily physicals to add the total won’t go up hugely daily!

It does seem rather steep when Ed is doing his for 99p :kink: A £3.99 single way back when got you b-sides, remixes and the video!
