I figured I'll bite and look into it. I took the top 50 most streamed albums last week via Spotify and checked their numbers

Note: I took original editions when applicable, since this was a comment on artistic integrity and you don't typically see critical appraisal, whether present or retrospect take bonus tracks to task. Personally I think the last 22 minutes of "DONDA" have the makings of deluxe edition material but for all official intents and purposes, it is the album.

I think in general what you get here is a small handful of outliers distorting the mean, as the median length is comfortably under 50 minutes, which I would consider pretty regular. Even of those outliers, we have a clearly defined double album and a triple(!) album, while Kanye West's album length is quite atypical for him as 4 of the 6 albums he's released in the last 10 years have averaged under 30 minutes. Overall though, the exceptions have always existed and I don't think there's anything to suggest a brewing trend. I would note though that I feel like less successful artists are less and less likely to get the chance to actually record albums, since they're usually big risks for labels unless they want a loss leader. These types of artists are probably less likely to make ambitiously long albums and so that dilutes the pool more so in the favour of high profile artists who may do just that. But I'd attribute that to streaming as a less lucrative platform than music stores, rather than the algorithmic nature of our listening habits shaping industry decisions.

I'm sure it's already mentioned but Already Dead at #14 is a good showing.

Actually quite a good song too. Am I right in thinking he fully wrote and recorded this before he died unlike some of the other stitched together crap?

Not sure what in particular you're aiming this at but I think much of Legends Never Die was mostly done before his passing. Perhaps the most egregious sounding song "Come & Go" is not monstrously different to the early demo Juice posted when he was still alive.

Lmao this is such a pointless argument about nothing.

How is it "disappointing" that she has released a 30 track album lol.

Random side note but didn't expect to see Hollywood's Bleeding in the top 50 most streamed albums of last week.

Glad that's still getting the appreciation and longevity it deserves.

Juice WRLD had far, far more finished but unreleased songs during his lifetime than he did released songs. I've read that the number of songs in the vault is in the thousands, I'm sure not all of them are ready to be released as is but even just from ones that have already leaked there's enough material to keep releasing stuff from him for a while without resorting to stitching fragments together I believe.

This song indeed is one that was already finished a while before he passed, he posted a snippet of it on Instagram in 2018.

Some of the posthumous releases from XXXTENTACION and Pop Smoke have been laughably inauthentic. Juice's posthumous releases have been handled a lot better in comparison.

Pop Smoke's posthumous catalogue has been particularly dreadful.

Yep, you'll see no disagreement from me on that front.

Bitter and losing the plot for pointing out a fact that no one else dares to in case they’re bombarded by Taylor fans? :cardi:

I can take the blows, it’s fine. Keep them coming, Taylor fans.

Pay attention to us, you billious, bulbous-nosed villain of most decadent immoral decay, whose vacuum of bad taste threatens to engulf us all at the speed of light, like false vacuum decay!! Taylor Swift's Red is one of the best pop bop albums of almost ALL TARM and you will accept that fact!

You've yet to accept that's true of 1989 🤷‍♂️

I have seen it all now — an album re-release with plenty of outtakes and rarities for fans is disappointing and gaming the system. Too much content!

Of course, the real reason it has 30 tracks on the album is because Adele's "30" being released forced her to alter the release date. I hope the code crackers are looking for all the hidden Adele shade in the new tracks. :magic:
Technically it's 31 tracks, we can't forget the absolute banger that is the Apple Music exclusive 'A Message From Taylor'. Truly her most out there and avant garde work of artistry to date tbh.

I think it goes deeper than this tbh, I think some of the original tracks were always Adele diss tracks in disguise.

 57. Benson Boone - GHOST TOWN

Still climbing on Apple despite the mass Taylor takeover! :o There are 7 ineligible / duplicate Taylor songs above it, plus 5 ineligible Ed songs! It's been yeeted downwards on Spotify by the newies (and probably the weekend effect to some extent, it's not gonna be a club favourite xx) but is holding stable on streams so I really hope this can break the top 40 this coming week.

Amazon update:

So last Sunday, a number of songs took big jumps up the chart... but then on Monday they mostly fell back to where they were before. Kiss My (Uh Oh) went 26-11-27, Drive went 40-14-39, Take My Breath went 29-15-35, and so on. At the same time, Love Nwantiti went 10-37-11, Obsessed With You went 8-18-9... . A similar thing has happened on each of the last few Sundays and again today, so obviously something isn't right there, whether it's a glitch or correction for earlier in the week or they're just making it up. Perhaps I should start tracking Sunday and non-Sunday peaks separately (or just not bother at all), but for now I'll continue as normal, even if today's chart needs to be taken with even more of a pinch of salt than usual for Amazon:

The current top 10 (yesterday's positions in brackets); daily peaks in bold:

(2) 1 Shivers

(1) 2 Easy On Me

(4) 3 Bad Habits [also #87]

(3) 4 Cold Heart

(8) 5 Stay

(20) 6 My Heart Goes

(13) 7 Better Days [Dermot Kennedy]

(17) 8 Meet Me At Our Spot

(15) 9 Coming For You

(6) 10 Out Out

Also at new peaks today:

(30) 21 Woman

(48) 31 Alone With You

Further down the top 100:

#73 Jason Derulo - Acapulaco

#82 Benson Boone - Ghost Town

Christmas songs - all at new peaks for 2021:

#18 All I Want For Christmas Is You

#33 Last Christmas

#53 Fairytale Of New York

#69 It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

#77 Jingle Bell Rock

#78 Do They Know It’s Christmas? [band Aid... 30]

#93 Santa Tell Me

and no Taylor Swift in the top 100 today. Red (Taylor's Version) was about #84 yesterday, but that's it.

Other new daily top 50 peaks from the last 7 days:

#5 Overpass Graffiti

#11 Flowers (Say My Name)

#11 Tell Me Something Good

#34 Better Days [Neiked]

#43 I Wish

Taylor's All Too Well holding up at #9 on Apple, 2nd version at #19

but all her tracks are starting to drop

interesting movers on Apple:

13 Sad Girls Luv Money

15 Acraze - Do it to it

32 Sam Fender

on Spotify All Too Well still #1 combined with nearly 100K over Adele

#1 All Too Well 372+210 =582K

Taylor still has 14 tracks top 50 wow

Incredible for the 10-minute version of All Too Well to be doing 372K streams
