I don't think there's any possible measure, aside from personal preference, that Ride On Time could be classed as one of the worst number ones of the decade.

It stands out, it was forward thinking and influential, it was one of the first big hits of its genre, it was a huge seller and is still often played across media even today.

you really have to be a hater to hate Ride on time ;)
It was Loleatta Holloway sample but they didn't get the clearance and just put it out anyway which got them into big trouble so that's where Heather Small came in to rerecord the vocal

It doesnt even sound like Heather Small much imo, she has a very distinctive voice of course.

I thought it was just rumoured it was Heather Small in the vocal for Ride In Time, didnt know it was officially confirmed.

I have the 7" of Ride On Time. Two versions were released one with the original vocal and another with session singer (the one I have). However the name of the singer is not mentioned on the record and like MDF I didn't think it sounded like Heather Small either..

Into the top 10 with a rate record of 19 voters. Whilst no-one gave this maximum points some 6 voters put in their top 10 making it 1988’s most popular chart topper.

Well for me that’s the weakest of the 10 gone though you can’t argue with 19 voters and it is iconic of course.

Just how high can the PSB get with 3 intact? :o

Oh and congratulations Jade and popchartfreak on 9/9.

The German-language version of 99 luftballs is preferable but its not anywhere near as good as the others in the top 5 for 1984, and Suedey's all-time fave UK number one (I might have that wrong, sorry Simon!)just misses the top 10. Ride On Time is a classic, but they have no-one to blame for blatantly stealing somebody else's work and not attempting to clear it first and give actual credit rather than have a model pretend to sing along. No disrespect to the fab Heather Small but the re-recording version was just weedy in comparison, I went right off it when they started pushing it. The original or no version for me, and I hope songwriter royalties go to the right people.

All I can say is.....what a top 10! Amazing, I voted for 9 of them, t'other one isn't even said artist's best record, that would be single 3 off that current album, but it's a great singalong in a singles career of great singalongs. 3 Pet Shop Boys, Abba, a-ha etc. utter classics, well done everyone on voting the right way! Of course I would say that being biased

PS Jade and dandy have more points than moi, and Jade has 9 of the top 10 too. I'm not remotely surprised both are ahead, they have great consistent taste. Of course I would say that etc. S'true though.... :heehee:

Heaven is a Place on Earth was a song that didn't quite click until its use in Black Mirror's San Junipero, it really complemented it brilliantly and made the meaning clearer, it makes me all warm inside hearing it now

Heaven Is A Place On Earth, is one of those songs I didn't know how much I liked until I added it to my iPod and realised how much I'd played it a few years later. Same with Total Eclipse Of The Heart.

I have two songs left from my top 10, but I think the winner is more likely to come from the other four I voted for.

My top two are still to come but this was my fourth place (behind Shaky as I thought he needed the help more but basically level).

Such a power pop moment of joy, it's fantastic to see it come top ten! Although thanks to it being the soundtrack to the Haven Holidays advert for so many years it makes me dream of frolicking on the beach when I hear it. Also loved the use of it in San Junipero, so powerful.

Heaven is a Place on Earth is just a perfect pop song, it's a Rick Nowles song, who many years later wrote many songs with Lana del Rey.

I actually much prefer the follow-up I Get Weak, but actually the 3trilogy of Heaven is a place-I Get Weak-Circle in the Sand was pop perfection

I would not have predicted that Heaving is a Place On Earth would be top 10 over Ride On Time.

I dont particularly like it.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the result, and I bet Jade is too :D One third of the top 9 is Pet Shop Boys :yahoo:

I did wonder if dandy went for the same 30-pointer as me before the results announcing, interesting to see what's happened.... :)

Yesssss I may have lost my +30 a lil while ago, 'The Model', but voting for the entire top 9 definitely makes up for that  good job BuzzJack!

'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' is... nice but doesn't particularly excite me, saw 'Circles In The Sand' mentioned and that's just one of hers that I prefer

Haven’t they done well! Yes the PSB’s get three entries in the top 9 with this one becoming the second most popular No 1 of 1986 and attracting 20 voters!

Surprised West end girls is only PSB's 3rd highest, was expecting it 1st or 2nd...
