Amazing sales for it when you think about it like 244k is a huge turnaround plus the sales of his christmas hit, I imagine the shops were looking to get huge amounts of it shipped. Plus 'Imagine' was chosen as the ultimate tribute for following xmas.

The lesser known of the double a-side but those familiar with Coldplay’s “Talk” will doubtless know it.

America’s answer to Band Aid and much smaller seller.

Undertones and Assembly singer Sharkey took this Maria McKee penned hit to the top with backing vocals from Boy George and production from Eurythmic Dave Stewart.

Was Madonna just not asked to be on We Are The World? She was pretty big by mid-1985.

Computer Love must have just missed my votes as I love that! Coldplay's Talk introduced me to it, and it's a great song in its own right too.

USA for Africa for me is a more overwrought version of Band Aid, I find it curious it's often on lists of best songs ever.

She was asked but couldn't go cos she was in the middle of her tour for Like a Virgin, which had just been her first #1

Thank you.

I always wondered why she wasn't on it

Like Chez 'Computer Love' was very close to making my votes as well. The riff is dreamy <3 of course put into my consciousness by Coldplay borrowing it.
Yeh Fearghal, Eddy Grant and Keenkraft were close to my votes especially love ‘A Good Heart’! Nothing like the guy who played TOTP just 7 years before!
Yes Feargal Sharkey did go very MOR for A Good Heart its a decent song anyway. Eddy Grant's I Dont Wanna Dance I much prefer though, a catchy tune, reggae recreated with 80s production.
Mad it took him so long to get a solo hit after The Equals!

Listening to Jacko's saying 'We are the World, we are the children' is weird to say the least. -_-

Also that song aged horribly musically. It's probably my least fave number 1 of the decade.

lol at no one mentioning that Charlene's I've Never Been To Me is famous for being used in that australian camp 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert  I only know that song because of the opening song of that film.

Thank you.

But actually Madonna wasn't that famous yet, we're talking early 95, she just has her first #1 with the lead of album 2, things were just starting for her.

But I think she was asked cos Jacko and Madonna shared manager or something

There's that whole story about MJ wanting to do a duet with Madonna but then not been too happy with her ideas for it and shelving it.
‘We Are the World’ was a terrible band aid effort by the Americans

That was the only the "official" line to save face

Nile Rodgers explains why

The American music awards were held on 28/1/85 after which "We Are the world" was recorded that evening.

Her "Virgin" tour didn't kick off until 10th April 85. In the end "Crazy For You" knocked "We Are The World" from No1 in the US so you know.....

interesting to see his side of the story, Madonna would be furipus if she saw that :D
