Japanese Boy Aneka (Voter: Last Dreamer)- No 1 for 1 week in August 1981

The follow-up single "Little Lady" (# 50 in UK) is my second favourite song from 1981 year.

Yep - the one about the spaceman came travelling - it’s rubbish!

I entirely disagree with your opinion.

Working My Way Back To You- Forgive Me Girl Detroit Spinners (Voter: Fiesta)- No 1 for 2 weeks in April 1980

QMo2oAR.jpg

Their cover of the 1966 Four Seasons track was fused with Michael Zager’s “Forgive me Girl” and was their only No 1, If you want a laugh then check out the Boyzone version which served as their first Irish single release…

Doctorin' The Tardis is a pure banger and I will not hear otherwise!

This came incredibly close to getting points from me.

I've just checked my votes. I dont know why I didn't vote for Doctor in the Tardis.

Woman In Love Barbara Streisand (Voter: Last Dreamer)- No 1 for 3 weeks in October/ November 1980

Written by two Bee Gees this is Streisand’s only UK chart topper. Although you can hear Gibb’s backing vocals on the track he didn’t “record” them as such but the producers left his demo vocal line on the track.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight Tight Fit (Voter: Chez Wombat- 3 points, Shoat- 25 points)- No 1 for 3 weeks in March 1982

TL4Pg1Q.jpg

Already over 40 years old by this time this “version” came along, the “group” was assembled by the producers from a model and two ladies (none of whom sang on the single) and one of the ladies went on to become Mrs Pete Waterman for a while.

Too Many Broken Hearts Jason Donovan (Voter: Jason)- No 1 for 2 weeks in March 1989

Talking of Waterman, another S/A/W No 1 exits here for the heartthrob of 89 who was actually dealing with splitting with Kylie at this point and hence the song title.

Ooh, there's one of my votes! *_ Actually surprised that made it so high, it's a great little guilty pleasure though.

I never knew they never sang on it though, was it an uncredited vocalist? Poor guy x

Session musicians I'm afraid. The guy, Steve Grant, was a catalogue model (I think) who went on to be part of a group called Splash! who had a S/A/W single "Qu'est-Ce, que-c'est?" a few years later which just missed the charts.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight is a great track. Shout out to Joey in Friends singing the high bits.

I also like the Jason D track. Though When You Come Back To Me was the better of his singles.

How I became only one voter for "Woman In Love" ? :o

It's the one from all-time best songs, which were performed by female singer.

OMG! SAW 80s hits are definitely NOT loved by Buzzjackers. Well, I'm surprised Rick Astley is still to come tbh. :teresa:

My fave Jason Donovan's single is his version of Happy Together. It was #10 in 1991. It peaked higher than The Turtles 1967 original version. :o

Edited by Jason

Really liked All Around the World and Too Many Broken Hearts back in the day

I even bought Jason’s debut 😅 maybe that vinyl is worth something now 😅

Never cared much about Barbra Streisand and Women in love even less 😬

Yeh Lisa Stansfields No1 was a quality soul record, close to points from me!
I would have given the Lisa Stansfield song points had I voted, really nice song indeed!
