^surprised you have Always on my mind in such low esteem, for me t's easier the best thing PSB have ever done

and one if not the best ever ever :)

Everything's relative, I still voted for it  I love it, but I love Go West, Where The Streets Have No Name, and It's Alright more in terms of their covers. OTOH it's way better than Somewhere....

Like a Prayer would be a great winner, but can't see it, Madonna has been sadly not doing great in the poll

I much prefer Into the Groove (my #1 of the 80s) and Papa don't preach but few voted for them

don't think the Madonna fans of the forum voted in here sadly

If 'Frozen' could win the 90s poll then I don't see why 'Like A Prayer' couldn't have a good shot here too!

(of course they're completely different sonically but there's a track record here of supporting a Madonna song in a big way, even if not all of them)

Given Like A Prayer won King Rollo’s best #1 ever contest it ought in theory to walk this!

I’m hoping somehow something else will have come through, not that it’s not a great song of course.

Just pipping PSB’s to1986’s most popular chart topper are A-Ha. Their only chart topper, it made the top 10 for 9 voters and got maximum points from Popchartfreak.

Ooft, so close to a clean sweep of double-figure points! I am shocked that 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' has finished so high :o but very pleased. I added 'Hunting High and Low' to my vinyl collection a few months ago thanks to a record fair and thoroughly enjoyed the album. I really struggle to choose between 'Take On Me' and 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' - the former was so instant, especially with its iconic video, while the latter has been a real slower burner for me. Hmm... I conclude that I adore them equally

Actually that was my least fav single from the album... Take on Me is a million times better and deserved #1 over this

and Hunting High and Low is actually the jewel of the album

I kinda agree there. I don't mind The Sun Always Shines, it's a good track, but I much prefer Take On Me and might have got even got some points from me if it had been a #1. A bit overplayed at this point? Yeah probably but still an absolute classic.

The title track is great too btw, amongst others, I was just comparing the two massive hits (the #1 and their signature song), class group

I agree that 'Take On Me' is overplayed here but thankfully that hasn't dulled the sparkle for me

Sun Always Shines is a gorgeous, mesmerising and heartbreaking track. Not sure why on Earth I cut it from my votes now. Anyway it means I’ve come in from 5 votes in the last 12 to 5 in the last 7, 4 of them 20+ pointers. :w00t:
I love The Sun Always Shines on TV, never expected it to finish so high but it's great. It has some glorious production and lyrics, and the instrumental intro in particular is wonderful. It's a very worthy number 1, even if it is massively eclipsed by Take on Me (if only that could've got there too D:)

I love The Sun Always Shines on TV. Proved not only that they weren't going to be a flash-in-the-pan but also that they could go one better and have a chart topper!

Everyone remembers a-ha for Take on Me... but Sun is a very worthy fave from their discography.

Take on Me is overplayed and The Sun Always Shines on TV deserved to be A-Ha one and only UK number 1 because is so much better imo.

Now my 29 pointer has vanished, hopefully my 30 pointer (my last one remaining) will be top 5 at least. :banghead:

Found this about the song on Genius:

Paul Waaktaar, a-ha’s guitarrist and writer of this song is quoted in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh as saying:

“The Sun Always Shines On TV" was written on one of those down days, Me and Mags (Furuholmen, keyboards) were in a hotel watching English television on a rainy day and the guy announcing the programme says, ‘It’s a rainy day but, as always, the sun always shines on TV.’ The song is about the power of television and the way that television presents life.

awww was hoping it would go top 5 and dandy would have given 30 points too

I adore Sun Always Shines On TV, I rate it as amongst the greatest 5 records of the 80's, it's epic, unusual, soaring and those vocals and that production, woah! Some days I think it's the greatest record of the 80s', some days Tears For Fears Everybody Wants To Rule The World, MJ's Billie Jean or PSB's What Have I Done.

a-ha were always good, sometimes great, Take On Me is fab, Hunting High & Low wonderful, Manhattan Skyline tinglingly dramatic, and a-ha are well worth seeing in concert, the last time I caught them was on the day of my grandma's funeral so it was strangely moving and oddly out-of-body at the same time...
