The sales of Merry Christmas would be neutralized to the average of tracks 3-12 in sales due to it now being one of the top 2 sellers from '='. The difference is that Bad Habits sales would now count as apart of the average instead of being neutralized along with Shivers. It is possible that this could contribute 500+ sales and thus make the difference. We won't know for sure until we get sales data (though it does seem likely) .... Adele may return to no.1 next week once the Merry Christmas plummets....

so of course ed made it in albums thanks to fake streams from last xmas being added to the album

and lol at ed now added to Peru, so the occ breaks the rules just for ed, ed really has the occ wrapped around his finger :/

Yup that’s it nothing to do with Adele not selling any more herself!

What Ed is doing is nothing new. Mabel and Becky Hill have platinum albums with similar strategy despite their actual sales being close to zero. When Hill didn't follow the pattern on second album, it was a colossal underperformance and charted above her "greatest hits" for only a month.

'Divide' is Ed's biggest album and he'll do absolutely everything to keep '=' above it so it wouldn't look like an underperformance in comparison. That'd mean new attached tracks during 2022.

Lol it’s a fair point to be honest, you can’t just keep adding popular tracks to make it sell more. Ed probably would have been number one this coming week anyway as his overall streams are higher than 30 and were before Christmas was added but you can’t deny it’s given him a bit of a boost this week.

He got extra 3.6K extra units because of that and the difference between '=' and '30' was just 423 copies.

I mean to be fair you absolutely can (by the way the OCC calculates sales). Several other artists have abused that particular tactic far more egregiously than Ed did by adding a single extra song to his album.

Lol at people still insisting that the OCC have any consistent 'rule' regarding crediting remix artists. It's been very clear for a while now that remix artists get added on a case by case basis rather than following any predictable pattern, presumably requiring the labels to actively request it. (The assertion that the fact 'the original already charted' has anything to do with it I'm pretty certain was entirely fabricated and based on nothing)
