Electric Light Orchestra - Livin' Thing

Katy Perry featuring Juicy J - Dark Horse

ELO's first top five single was named by Q magazine in 2006 as the number 1 'Guilty Pleasure' of all time. Unlike his other number 4, Hold On Tight, which he hasn't performed live since the 1980s, Livin' Thing has been a staple of Jeff Lynne's setlist since he resumed touring in 2014. Also here is Katy Perry's Art Of Noise influenced song from 2014, she still has one more to come.

The Farm - All Together Now

Delta Goodrem - Lost Without You

Mike Oldfield with vocals by Maggie Reilly - Moonlight Shadow

Produced by Suggs and with a writing credit for Johann Pachelbel, this was The Farm's highest charting single. It was written about the Christmas truce of 1914. Also here is Mike Oldfield's fine song from 1983, the last of his three top 5 hits.

'Moonlight Shadow' and 'Roses' knocked out :( noooo! Especially the former, that is my biggest casualty so far actually as I gave it +28 points.

Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet

Pet Shop Boys – Where the Streets Have No Name-Can't Take My Eyes Off You / How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously?

The second of the three Pet Shop Boys songs to receive votes. U2's original of Where the Streets Have No Name is still to come while Andy Williams' version of Can't Take My Eyes Off You only managed to get to number 5. The original version of that one was recorded by Frankie Valli in 1967. It's Oh So Quiet can be traced back to Germany in 1948. The song gave Bjork her highest chart position.

The Prodigy - Omen

From 2009, Omen gave The Prodigy their highest chart position since Breathe reached number 1 in 1996. The group's other number 4 is still to come.

Adele - Make You Feel My Love

Placebo - Pure Morning

From 1998, this was the second of three top 5 singles for Placebo. As with The Prodigy, their other number 4 is still left. The same cannot be said for Adele who makes her only appearance.

I didn’t vote for it but All Together Now feels like too big a classic to be going out here.

Lots of other great stuff in this section too. Delta Goodrem’s best song by far, a lovely Adele cover, Bjork’s fantastically quirky hit (Bjork himself obviously didn’t give it 30 then), The Prodigy’s brilliant late 00s comeback and an ingenious PSB cover!

I haven't lost any of mine for a while although I've got a couple of obscure ones still to come which I'm really surprised haven't gone out yet!

Pure Morning got a chunk of points from me and Omen was one of the last to be cut, both gooduns.

Does this countdown omit everything that's qualified for the final?

Yes, I'll stop before I get to the semi-final qualifiers. I'll reveal which songs had the highest point scores in this round after the results of the final have been completed.
OMG! 53 points was Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 3 Single cut off but 58 points isn't enough to be in the semifinals this time! :o
I think there was quite a lot more voters this time so I guess that accounts for the increase in required score to qualify

The Cars - Drive

China Black - Searching

Roxette - Joyride

Drive reached number 5 in 1984 but peaked one place higher the following year after being used as background music in a video depicting the Ethiopian famine at the Live Aid concert. Searching by China Black was also a re-release in 1994 after failing to chart two years earlier. Also here is Joyride, Roxette's fourth top 10 single.

Ashanti - Foolish

Elton John - I'm Still Standing

George Michael - Too Funky

Snoop Dogg vs. David Guetta – Sweat

Elton John loses the last of his three songs. Bruno Tonioli was one of the dancers in the video for I'm Still Standing. George Michael also has three songs and Too Funky is the second from him to drop out. Ashanti had three number 4s in 2002, Foolish is the second of the two that received votes.

Ooft those 59-62 groups are all great! I hope what’s actually qualified is good as a lot of what hasn’t certainly is! :P

Hazell Dean - Who's Leaving Who

Produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, this was a cover of a song from 1986 by the Canadian singer Anne Murray. It gave Hi-NRG queen Hazell Dean her first top 40 hit for four years.

Edited by King Rollo

Lasgo is the only one I voted for in that section - it had a few other voters so I assumed it would get through. I think my 25-29 pointers are fairly safe anyway, for now...
