Very tempted to go dance this month although last time I was criminally left behind in the semis so unsure if I should. Or maybe..

..Something icelandic?

..Something r&b?

..Something i'm unsure whether it'll pass the veto or not?

..Something pop-rock?

So many options, I'm sure I'll somehow manage to pick the wrong one

I am leaning towards noise. Though I could perhaps also do some straight Japanese pop. Might have a full think after confirmation opens.

I would say Icelandic would be amazing but sounds like the safest choice the one that might get vetoed.

Yeah that's what I think as well. I have a few choices for Icelandic potentials but I'm not sure how well the appeal translates to non-icelanders

POPHub is primed and ready to impact 2022 with a bang!

(and 10 DNQs)

I love when people say they’re unsure if it will pass veto. It’s usually either totally fine, a bloody obvious veto even the dead could see, or it looks fine at first glance but you’ve raised suspicions so now I don’t trust my gut instinct and I spend more time thinking about it

Honestly, mostly they’re fine and people worry for nothing.

I always check first if my songs pass the veto based on the guidelines but I don't follow music blogs so it's usually the "substantial blog coverage" part that I'm unsure about  But the artist I'm thinking about is not someone that's had any chart hits but I'm unsure of just how well known they are and whether they will be auto-vetoed based on namesake alone

Google it.

Im not being flippant or rude when I say this, I promise! That is literally what we do. Google it and then see how many pages of results we get. If we’re seeing lots of recognisable blogs or websites appearing in the first few pages and the dodgy Russian mp3 download sites aren’t 90% of the page results until like page 12 then it’s gonna score high on that measure. If there’s only two or three pages with useful results but they’re quite high profile then we’d probably rate as moderate or even high if they’re really high profile sites (same goes for lower profile but continuing for a couple of extra pages - that’s typical of a moderate rating).

It’s not the most exact science in the world, there’s no formula, but a quick Google will tell you all you need to know. Moderate vs substantial is a judgement call we make but if there’s barely any hits or all the hits are in a language other than English then you’re in the clear on this measure - the absolute majority of the time (every rule has its exceptions but they’re rare).

Thanks Silas. The song in question is 2-3 years old, and I don't see many blogs talking about it and there and it returns a total of two results when I search it using the "site:buzzjack.com" feature on Google, doesn't have many views on Youtube, no charts etc so I might just give it a try but it's at least a somewhat recognizable name although I've seen (what I consider to be) far more well known artists enter in a non-anniversary edition so maybe I'm just overthinking it and sabotaging myself.

Reminds me of myself  what I was going through confirming Anabel Englund because of the sample used!!!

Without knowing the artist, then it’s probably absolutely fine from that description. Especially if it’s a couple of years old.

Of course can’t say for sure until confirmations but I probably wouldn’t be too worried if I were you

Hopefully it'll be fine! We'll see tomorrow I suppose! Thanks for the feedback Addy & Silas, I appreciate it! ^_^
