January 30, 20224 yr Has to be a mistake for lost frequencies/Callum, absolutely no way it’s outside the top 20, #2 on iTunes, #4 on Apple and #12 on Spotify. Should hopefully be fixed in tomorrow’s update, it should be comfortably top 10.
January 30, 20224 yr Hope Lost Frequencies end up in the Top 5 this Friday! Also can this Encanto thing start to wind down now please, at least ACR will stop it carrying on for half a year like Let It Go.
January 31, 20224 yr Lost Frequencies should recover strongly on tomorrow's chart if there has been an error in combining their sales.
January 31, 20224 yr I wonder what will come first... Losing interest in Encanto or ACR? (Whichever can't come fast enough for me!) Definitely ACR. These soundtrack songs, as well as songs young children like, always hang around for ages. I'd be extremely shocked if it just fell out of the top 10 naturally next month.
January 31, 20224 yr BFY sampling Cry For You from 2008 which sampled Smalltown Boy from 1984 Omg! Never knew that!

January 31, 20224 yr Exactly, its doing double than anybody else on streaming hopefully people will switch to Two Oruguitas soon, especially if it gets a nomination for the Oscars, I think I read it's the only one they submitted
January 31, 20224 yr Cry For You from 2008 which sampled Smalltown Boy from 1984 it actually doesn't sample it. It's incredibly similar but not an official sample.

January 31, 20224 yr Reckon 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' for End of Year no.1 single and 'Encanto' biggest album if you count compilations too as it's ineligible for the main album chart. Pretty much certain biggest artist album will be Ed Sheeran's '='.
January 31, 20224 yr it actually doesn't sample it. It's incredibly similar but not an official sample. Yeah, technically a sample has to be directly taken from another song. I think the proper term for this is an "interpolation". But you still have to credit the original writers and pay them royalties, and can be taken to court if you don't. The OCC, Rolling Stone, Vogue, NME, Vulture and Billboard have all apparently incorrectly used the term "sample" in their coverage of the song! :o Reckon 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' for End of Year no.1 single and 'Encanto' biggest album if you count compilations too as it's ineligible for the main album chart. There's a chance, and I think it will hold up for the rest of the year better than Driver's License, but we saw Bad Habits come through in the middle of the year last year and somehow overtake everything effortlessly. I didn't think that could happen but obviously it can, so we can't be sure. Edited January 31, 20224 yr by Eric_Blob

I didn't think that could happen but obviously it can, so we can't be sure. Even good4u did better than Drivers Licence by the end of the year. Not to forget that Drivers License had huge streaming numbers - at some point it was over a million on Spotify in the UK alone. The number 1 song of the year is yet to to be released. My eyes are on Lewis Capaldi. He's headlining something in summer, and I feel his Album would have been released by then.
January 31, 20224 yr I always thought it was just similar to Smalltown Boy, definitely not a sample the Smalltown boy writers are not credited and sure they would be in this day and age Genius says it's an interpolation but not sure if I know the difference, they would need to be credited too even for an interpolation I'd assume
January 31, 20224 yr To be honest, I'm just surprised that another song is reminiscent of Smalltown Boy again quite so quickly after Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits just last year.

I didn't think that could happen but obviously it can, so we can't be sure. Yeah Bruno is not doing the massive streaming numbers that Drivers License was doing in January last year. It will undoubtedly hold up well throughout the year because of the nature of soundtrack songs like that but even a massive February release could probably overtake it relatively quickly. I already fear it will be the Ed/Taylor duet.
January 31, 20224 yr Difference between a sample and interpolation, is that a sample takes something wholesale from another song, whereas an interpolation merely mimics it. So it's the difference between ACRAZE taking the vocals directly from "Do It To It" vs. say, Flo Rida singing the tune to "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)". In the case of September, it's neither since it's supposedly a coincidence, but if it was ever taken to court, then it'd probably be retroactively seen as an interpolation, akin to "Shape Of You" -> "No Scrubs".
