I just finished (Skipping the songs I already heard at this point), I'm now going back through the singles/promo singles and my God the whole thing is a bop!! There was no song I disliked, 'One Of Us' is for sure the weakest to me. I'd love to 'Ghost', 'Dancing's Done' and the Title Track get the (proper) single treatment, wouldn't be mad with any of the 8/10s and above getting that.

My favourites overall are:

11.0 Ghost

10.0 Dancing's Done

10.0 Diamonds & Dancefloors

09.0 Sleepwalker

09.0 Cold As Ice

09.0 In The Dark

08.5 Get Outta My Heart

08.0 Maybe You're The Problem

08.0 Weapons

08.0 Turn Off The Lights

07.5 Million Dollar Baby

07.0 Hold Up ([Just] Wait A Minite)

07.0 Last Night On Earth

06.0 One of Us

EDIT: In The Dark has gone from an 8 to a 9 on second listen. The title track is in danger of snatching Ghost's 11 too.

(Mostly) First Listen rate:

07.5 Million Dollar Baby > This has never full on hit me. I enjoy it as a little side bop though. <

07.0 Sleepwalker > Made little impact on me on first listen. I can't remember how this goes lol <

10.0 Maybe You're The Problem > This is probably my 3rd favourite Ava track behind SBP and 'Dancing's Done'. Been INSTANT LOVE since I first heard it. <

08.0 Ghost > Like, but don't love. Maybe it'll grow on me. <

07.5 Hold Up (Wait A Minute) > It's alright. Could grow, but also one of those where it could just not move in my affections at all lol. <

10.0 Weapons > Up there as one of her VERY best tracks for me, again. Such a great pop song! <

09.0 Diamonds & Dancefloors > This is a bit of a bop! I think this could become a big fan favourite. <

07.5 In The Dark > Think this could slowly grow on me. It's cute. <

07.0 Turn Off The Lights > I'm not really feeling these lite-house/disco-y songs much. But they're not really my thing in general tbh. Again, it's fine though. <

09.0 One of Us > Back to the POP! Where she truly excels imo. KEEP WITH THE POP SYNTHS PLZ AVA!!! <

08.5 Get Outta My Heart > Really good! Could become a big player from the album for me. <

08.0 Cold As Ice > This is a bop! Instant but has enough room to grow too! <

09.0 Last Night On Earth > YESSSS! Will be going back to this one a lot I think! YYYYYAAASSS. <

11.0 Dancing's Done > SOOOOOO DAMN GOOOOOOD! Very underrated tbh! <

Overall, nothing "awful", but I'm not really big on the tracks that use the house-lite production, but the pure pop on here is excellent! I love them.

RANKING:

01. Dancing's Done

02. Maybe You're The Problem

03. Weapons

04. Last Night On Earth

05. Diamonds & Dancefloors

06. One Of Us

07. Get Outta My Heart

08. Cold As Ice

09. Ghost

10. Million Dollar Baby

11. Hold Up (Wait A Minute)

12. In The Dark

13. Turn Off the Lights

14. Sleepwalker

I'll give the album another few listens but I suspect everything from 1 through to 10 will get repeated plays away from the album. So it's a success for me. I think I prefer the debut album, but this holds some great songs too.

This is unexpectedly good! I was expecting the singles already released to be the best songs on the album but that's not the case at all! What a pleasant surprise :)

Does “My Head & My Heart” feature on a vinyl release at all?

Sadly not!

I’m looking forward to giving the new album its first play later *.*

This is such a strong album! wouldn’t skip one song tbh. My highlights from the ones we haven’t heard yet were Get Outta My Heart, Sleepwalker, Cold As Ice and Ghost. Least favourite on first listen was probably Turn Off The Lights but still enjoyed it.

The overall quality of the album makes the single choices even more baffling though. None of them are bad songs but Cold As Ice, Ghost, Sleepwalker and Get Outta My Heart were RIGHT THERE :drama:

A very decent album (a few little basic bops in places but hey we all need that), I’m surprised she is not clicking and getting decent sized hits - I can only put it down too the fact she’s a little bit faceless? I mean people know the songs but have no idea who/what Ava Max is?

Get Outta My Heart :cheeseblock: The album is bop central but that one really stands out for me!

In fact the last few tracks on the album is the strongest section of the album for me. Cold as Ice, Last Night on Earth, Dancing’s Done… all incredible.

Ghost should have been a single a few months ago!

Listening to this again and it's much stronger, the louder it is! I agree with that review on that part!!

Also, it didn't help it was the first thing I did when I woke up so I wasn't *really* in the mood lmao. But yeah, this is all hitting so much harder on 2nd listen for me! I agree with you @Jay that the last section of the album (for me everything from 'One Of Us' onwards) is the strongest section!

Listening to this again and it's much stronger, the louder it is! I agree with that review on that part!!

This is actually really true - just sitting down and listening to this I was a bit underwhelmed but it's clearly an album to play loud and sing/dance along to!

I absolutely LOVED Maybe You're The Problem and Weapons (two of her best imo, massive bangers) but found the other pre-release singles a bit lifeless. When she brings the energy it really works. I think my favourite album track is Sleepwalker and I might be coming round on Ghost too (the lyric "I'm haunted by your ghost / It's what I fear the most" tho... Des'ree would like a word!). I'd say it's on par with her first album in terms of the bop/dud ratio, and this time round the concept doesn't feel so shoehorned in.

This has overtaken Sam Smith and is no1 on iTunes now. A great album too.
Why oh why didn’t they go with ‘Ghost’ and really push it hard before the album was released :drama:
So good to see this album getting such a warm reception. Hopefully it can debut top 5-10. It may be tough without a hit single to help it.

This is so solid!

I’ve always liked Ava for what she is. She makes great, fun pop music (she’s actually so underrated as a vocalist in my eyes too). I think this is perhaps a tad better than her debut it’s cohesive as a whole package and the best tracks were ones I hadn’t actually heard before the album too.

Dancing’s Done she really did THAT!!

Hope this goes top ten. It’s been popular with people who I follow on Twitter but people I follow on Twitter generally have similar interests / tastes to me  it’s doing well on iTunes though and it’s #7 on UK Apple streaming chart for albums which I think is pretty good.

Was that the one with the exclusive cover?

All the vinyl covers use the original artwork (her face with a diamond background), however there is a CD with an exclusive cover!
