So, this is not really creating anything wildly new that the “you’re the manager” threads aren’t already doing BUT…

They’ve created some really interesting discussion so I’ve decided I’m going to make a YouTube video on Lady Gaga’s 10 biggest “should’ve been a single” missed opportunities and wanted to hear from all of you on how you’d rank them.

I imagine I’m opening quite the can of worms here judging by how the other threads have gone down!

So, yeah, fire away with the 10 songs you think were the biggest missed opportunities. Not necessarily your favourite album tracks, but the ones you think would’ve actually made the best singles.

Too long an acronym what the fanny ell is THAT?!

1. Gypsy as first single. Nothing could save ARTFLOP after Applause.

2. ALICE!!!

3. Monster

4. ScheiBe

5. Teeth

6. Hair

7. Free Woman OR ARTPOP single

8. Walking On Air

9. Starstrukk

10. Dance (in the Dark)

Something along these lines...

FREE WOMAN with Rina (not the original which is nowhere near as good)

Scheiße

Dance in the Dark

Gypsy

Americano

Sine From Above

Babylon

Always Remember Us This Way

Heavy Metal Lover

Monster

A great list... and Americano.. that's possibly my least favourite on BTW and not even just down to my opinions but as a single I think it'd be so jarring. Her vocals would turn radio listeners off instantly with those chants :(
Americano isn't exactly a personal fave of mine either but I just feel it could have been quite successful. I remember Mr D* and many of our friends loving it upon the album release

Dance in the Dark

Monster

Scheiße

Gypsy

Sexxx Dreams

Alice

Free Woman (with a slight remix)

Sinew From Above (With a few big performances)

These are the only ones I feel realistically could be actual singles, otherwise I'd be padding it out. With some of these (particularly the Fame Monster ones) it's hard to see where they slot into the campaign timeline.

I wanted to put 'Diamond Heart' on here, but that's only in context of the actual album itself and it doesn't hold a candle to any of these. Also I consider 'Always Remember Us This Way' as having been a single.

Starstruck

ARUTW

INLA

Alice

Babylon

Dance In the Dark

Monster

Fashion of His Love

Hair

Boys Boys Boys

9. Alice
10. Sour Candy

I've picked 2 from each of Gaga's studio albums (except her debut), as find the single choices from that era perfect as it was. This list is in no particular order:

Starting with the brillant Monster, with its beautiful melancholy synth chords, the song is among the best ever pop songs written about losing your innocennce. This could have made a brilliant 4th single following the mammoth 'Bad Romance', 'Telephone' & 'Alejandro'. My other choice - Dance In The Dark, don't think I'd be forgiven if I didn't include this, its the ultimate fan fave full of grinding synths that morphs into stadium sized riffs. I may be in the minority here but I was fine with this not being a single & looking back the entire 'Fame/Monster' era was absolutley perfect.

ScheiBe - A firm highlight on 'BTW' & its faux-German hook is nonsensical as it is catchy, yet with a clear message. My singles run for 'BTW' would have been - 'Born This Way' - 'Marry The Night' - 'The Edge of Glory' - 'ScheiBe' - 'You And I' & 'Heavy Metal Lover'. Speaking of Heavy Metal Lover, bassy synths, metal guitars, just amazing & would have been the perfect ending to 'BTW'.

Gypsy - Soaring anthemic production, this SHOULD have been the lead single for 'Artpop', radio would have responded better to this than any of the other singles from this era. Sexxx Dreams. In hindsight perhaps Sexxx Dreams could have been a better option than 'DWUW' (cpnsidering the controversay it caused). 'SD' is wicked & weird as hell packed with twists and turns that exlodes into colourful synths.

Diamond Heart - A much stronger lead choice than 'PI' with its cool rock-band arrangements that would have given the public a better idea of what 'Joanne' was all about. John Wayne - It had a music video so WHY NOT?, the country-disco vibe could have made a solid 3rd single.

Alice - 'Chromatica's' packed to the brim with gems & this opening number is no exception with its hypnotic house beats & a soaring chorus, this could have made a great 3rd or 4th single. Sour Candy, This already charted well upon the album's release & could have easily followed the success of the first 2 singles, full of attitude and Gaga's earthy tones against BlackPink's sweet vocals & the moden slinky house beats, imagine what a video could have looked like.
Ooh Babylon yes, mixed with Madonna's Vogue and featuring Madonna!! Guaranteed no.1 for them.

I think the main one for me is ScheiBe. That was such a huge favorite when the album released. Hook after hook, manic Gaga, amazing, even the plebs were obsessed with it.

Chromatica had huge potential with Alice and Babylon and even Sour Candy. It's a shame they waited so long to push a 3rd song and it was Microsoft 911 of all songs.

Artpop was always going to be a mess no matter what. I don't care for Joanne era outside of underrated Perfect Illusion.

01. Starstruck (with Flo Rida)

02. Dance In The Dark

03. Monster

04. Scheisse

05. Gypsy

06. Sexxx Dreams

07. Diamond Heart

08. Dancin' In Circles

09. Alice

10. Replay

11. Sour Candy

12. Babylon

I tried as much as I could to get it to 10!

My list

01 Sour Candy

02 Bloody Mary

03 Dancin' in Circles

04 Monster

05 Boys Boys Boys

06 Sexxx Dreams

07 Dance in the Dark

08 Free Woman

09 Why Did You Do That

10 Government Hooker

Bonus: Maybe It's Time

This is a good idea and the responses have been great to read. I’ll have to give mine some thought and post them.

1. Dance in the Dark - yes it is known to all that it is my favourite song OF ALL TIME EVER and so I am majorly biased in wanting the world to hear and yes it probably is more special being an album track because it is a gem you have to actively seek out, but I can't NOT have it at #1 missed single song

2. Monster - huge. Halloween staple. Undeniable. The Fame Monster could've had 5 or more singles!

3. Gypsy - THE radio-ready, universal, global song from the ARTPOP era. Not just a missed single, it deserved to lead the album and be gigantic.

4. Sour Candy - this is one of my least favourite on Chromatica, but there is no denying the world was ready to give it all their loving and the BLACKPINK connection would've made it a gigantic streaming juggernaut. Sad.

5. Free Woman - this album has SO MANY missed single opportunities. This is my absolute favourite on it, and so get Rina involved and make it an official remix single to get that post-album smash. Tie it in to becoming "free" from the pandemic when restrictions were closing too - winner!

6. Scheiße - an odd one because it could've either been a HUGE SMASH or a gigantic flop, but gosh give it a go and just see? It could've been a single late into the campaign for damage limitation but imagine the VIDEO !!!

7. Is That Alright? - The best song on ASIB. Enough said. :( Timeless, wedding/love/romance song of the ages. The mums would've lapped this up!

8. Sexxx Dreams - another risk like Scheiße but she had nothing to lose in the ARTPOP era. Such a breezy, fun song that could've really made people talk (in a good way) about the era. In your face, but not monstrously so like some of the other songs on the album. A radio edit would've been needed.

9. Heavy Metal Lover - Born This Way could've been milked over and over again and each song could've given a different vibe. This is pure sex and would've gone off in the clubs!

10. Babylon - released with Haus Remix and Bree remix - streams for all three combined, killer Madonna-esque video to close the era.
