The booklets seem to still manage to hit new lows with the Yearbook series actually being advertised TWICE in the one for Now 112.

I only glanced at it quickly so can’t be 100% sure but was it the main Yearbook series advertised at the front and the Yearbook Extra series at the back?

I really miss the artist bios and photos though. They made the album feel more like a special product and less like a playlist thrown onto CDs.

You’re right, I just checked, I didn’t realise the covers for each one were near identical.

I miss the bios too. It gave the albums a unique selling point and going through pictures and bios was all part of the nostalgia when you looked at them years later. Oh well, I'm just thankful they're still making them in this current market and economy.

What’s the point? No one cares about the 70s and NOW never existed in the 70s

Edited by Hadji

I’ve not been getting them and I’m not gonna start unless I feel they will get to the years that I want. Doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

That’s quite an exaggeration! While I’d much rather such more recent decades covered, I’m confident that 70s albums would sell better than 90/00s.

I groaned when I saw the email about Now Yearbook ‘79. I have nothing against 70s music, it’s just I’m most passionate about the 90s onwards and they’re going in the wrong direction with each release

It really does infuriate me just how many spin off compilations they can gladly put in front of the public every single year and how many of them are for people who were around into the music of the time periods 80’s and before whilst not even batting an eye to anything post 1984 because in their view it’s “not cost-effective” or that “songs are too expensive to licence from the 90’s onward” it’s utter bull.

What happens when they have exhausted every year? They do it all again under the guise of a “special” release (probably to celebrate 40 years of the Now series when it comes to 2023).

Now That’s What I Call A Broken Record. RIP

I thought they would go back to 1979 rather than forward to 1985, as Madonna; Bruce Springsteen; Kate Bush (post 1982); Phil Collins; Prince are currently out of bounds which blows a fairly big hole in compiling a 1985 Yearbook.

That's a good point. It would leave a big hole, certainly Madonna would be out of bounds and Phil Collins and Prince.

Then they shouldn’t have embarked on such a large project if they had no plans to complete it. It’s such a pointless series if it only goes up to 1984 and nothing newer.

If they have no plans to complete it, surely they’re not embarking on a large project in the first place?

I hope Yearbook 79 flops and it will make them realise that they should have released 85 instead of 79

I'm not surprised that NOW 79 is next after the 12" 70s release i think that was a big hint.

I have no problem with 1985 or 1979 both good years, i'm sure sure that the 1985 yearbook will happen at some point it's just a matter of when.

We don't even know if NOW intend to do all the 70s yet.

You never know NOW 1985 might come this year after all.

Whatever the case, they can’t just start on 79 as an odd year, so they will now have the excuse to go back even further into the 70’s.

No chance of this yearbook series ever recovering from here, they should have just left it at the millennium series 22 years ago when songs were easier to licence from the 80’s and 90’s.

Sadly Now 1979 will be a bigger seller than Now 1990 ever would be. But I agree they should have finished the 80s first before going further back. Not sure I’ll continue buying them…

I have made a list of omissions from Yearbook 79 which will more likely appear on Yearbook Extra 79

Anita Ward - Ring My Bell

Blondie - Sunday Girl

ABBA - I Have A Dream

Lena Martell - One Day At A Time

Bee Gees - Tragedy

The Police - Message In A Bottle

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Oliver’s Army

Racey - Some Girls

Squeeze - Up The Junction

Michael Jackson - Don’t Stop 'Til You Get Enough

The Jacksons - Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)

Status Quo - Whatever You Want

Pretenders - Kid
