NO 120- 12 POINTS

Dance Yourself Dizzy Liquid Gold (Voter: Leonardo)

(#2 for 2 weeks in April 1980 behind “Working My Way Back To You” by Detroit Spinners, and “Going Underground” by The Jam

Early 80s disco which has a kitsch value I suppose

A Boy From Nowhere Tom Jones (Voter: Chartjack2)

(#2 for 1 week in May 1987 behind “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship)

Back from Vegas after a stint in the 70s, this was Jones’ return to the top 10 after a 15 year break. It was intended to be a track from a themed album about a matador- hence the cover in case you wondered.

Prince has another two entries to come but this is his least popular-

never a fan of Bandance, always thought it was a poor single
Wow, didn’t think i’d be the only voter for ‘Dance Yourself Dizzy’. Tis a tune.

NO 117- 16 POINTS

One Day I'll Fly Away Randy Crawford (AaronTM- 12 points, Torple- 4 points)

(#2 for 2 weeks in September 1980 behind “Feels Like I’m In Love” by Kelly Marie and “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” by Police

A rather lovely track (it was on my shortlist) which re-surfaced years later on a John Lewis advert.

Wings Of A Dove Madness (Voter: Popchartfreak)

(#2 for 1 week in September 1983 behind “Red Red Wine” by UB40

For all their 80s success only this and “House Of Fun” went top 2.

NO 114- 18 POINTS

IOU Freeez (Voter: King Rollo- 12 points, Jimwatts- 6 points)

(#2 for 3 weeks in July/ August 1983 behind “Wherever I Lay My Hat” by Paul Young)

1GtosbQ.jpg

Largely forgotten about in the pantheon of 80s pop but probably undeservedly so

Everyday (I Love You More) Jason Donovan (Voter: Jason)

(#2 for 1 week in September 1989 behind “Ride On Time” by Black Box)

d6yHlB6.jpg

Picking up more points than I thought, this stalled behind the biggest seller of the year.

When You Come Back To Me Jason Donovan (Voter: Jason- 10 points, Gooddelta- 7 points, *Dandy- 1 point)

(#2 for 2 weeks behind “Let’s Party” by Jive Bunny and “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid II)

And just like that Jason exits the rate with the final No 2 peaking single of the decade. The first track to attract 3 voters though!

Shouldn't IOU have 20 points if I gave it 12 and Jim gave it 8?

Quite right- my apologies. Jimwatts gave it 6.

Jason voting for himself again. :P

When You Come Back To Me is possibly Jason’s best - I very nearly scored it. IOU and One Day I’ll Fly Away are good too.

When You Come Back To Me was a huge favourite of mine as a child, I had to throw it a point
When You Come Back To Me was a huge favourite of mine as a child, I had to throw it a point

I considered pointing it too, had the single and loved it back in the day.

IOU is a neat track with fun use of sampling. Both those songs on 16 points are good too and the later Jason one is decent (I haven't heard the earlier one).

IOU by Freeze is a quality dance track imo, sort of sounds like piano house of later in the decade. Pure cheese but I love it!

Woulda been my 30 pointer!

I did buy the Jason album as a kid, still got the vinyl :o but no votes for me

in perspective, his singles were terrible except Too Many Broken Hearts... sorry jason :o

Their biggest hit and a winner with King Rollo at least!
